  • When fabricating a vision chip, we should consider the noise problem, such as the fixed pattern noise(FPN) due to the process variation. In this paper, we propose an edge-detection circuit based on biological retina using the offset-free column readout circuit to reduce the FPN occurring in the photo-detector. The offset-free column readout circuit consists of one source follower, one capacitor and five transmission gates. As a result, it is simpler and smaller than a general correlated double sampling(CDS) circuit. A vision chip for edge detection has been designed and fabricated using $0.35\;{\mu}m$ 2-poly 4-metal CMOS technology, and its output characteristics have been investigated.

  • Significant changes have been made to estimate the punching shear capacity for edge column-slab joints in the latest editions of most current codes. The revised equations account for axial forces as well as moments conveyed to columns from slabs, which have a substantial impact on the punching resistance of such joints. Many key design parameters, such as reinforcement-ratio, concrete strength, size-effect, and critical-section perimeter, were treated differently or even ignored in various code provisions. Consequently, wide ranges of predicted punching shear strength were detected by applying different code formulas. Therefore, it is essential to assess the various current Codes' design-equations. Because of the similarity in estimated outcomes, only the ACI, EC, and SNiP are used in this study to cover a wide range of estimation ranges from highly conservative to unconservative. This paper is devoted to analyzing the techniques in these code provisions, comparing the estimated punching resistance with available experimental data, and finally developing efficient models predicting the punching capacity of edge column-slab connections. 63 samples from past investigations were chosen for validation. To appropriately predict the punching shear, newly updated equations for ACI and SNiP are provided based on nonlinear regression analysis. The proposed equations'results match the experimental data quite well.

  • Flat plate is susceptible to punching shear failure at the slab-column connection, which may cause catastrophic structural collapse. To prevent such brittle failure, strength and ductility of the connection should be ensured. However, since it is very difficult to experimentally simulate the actual load and boundary conditions of the flat plate system, it is not easy to obtain reliable information and data regarding to the strength and ductility of the flat plate-column edge connection. In the present study, numerical studies were performed for edge connections of continuous flat plate. The results were compared with the existing experiments, and the variations of bending moment, drift, effective width around the connection were investigated. Based on tile findings of the numerical studies, the disadvantages of current design methods were discussed.

  • The dynamic network state and the mobility of the terminals make the service function chain (SFC) orchestration mechanisms based on static and deterministic assumptions hard to be applied in SDN/NFV mobile edge computing networks. Designing dynamic and online SFC orchestration mechanism can greatly improve the execution efficiency of compute-intensive and resource-hungry applications in mobile edge computing networks. In order to increase the overall profit of service provider and reduce the resource cost, the system running time is divided into a sequence of time slots and a dynamic orchestration scheme based on an improved column generation algorithm is proposed in each slot. Firstly, the SFC dynamic orchestration problem is formulated as an integer linear programming (ILP) model based on layered graph. Then, in order to reduce the computation costs, a column generation model is used to simplify the ILP model. Finally, a two-stage heuristic algorithm based on greedy strategy is proposed. Four metrics are defined and the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated based on simulation. The results show that our proposal significantly provides more than 30% reduction of run time and about 12% improvement in service deployment success ratio compared to the Viterbi algorithm based mechanism.

  • This paper presents a simplified hardware based edge detection circuit which is based on an analog correlator combining with the neighbor pixels in CMOS image sensor. A pixel element of the edge detector consists of an active pixel sensor and an analog correlator circuit which connects two neighbor pixels. The edge detector shares a comparator on each column that the comparator decides an edge of the target pixel with an adjustable reference voltage. The circuit detects image edge from CIS directly that reduces area and power consumption 4 times and 20%, respectively, compared with the previous works. And also it has advantage to regulate sensitivity of the edge detection because the threshold value is able to control externally. The fabricated chip has 34% of fill factor and 0.9 ${\mu}W$ of power per a pixel under 0.18 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

  • Thin-walled cross-sections can be optimized to enhance their resistance and progress their behaviour, leading to more competent and inexpensive structural system. The aim of this study is to afford a methodology that would facilitate progress of optimized cold formed steel (CFS) column section with maximum ultimate strength for practical applications. The proposed sections are designed to comply with the geometrical standards of pre-qualified column standards for CFS structures as well as with the number of industrialized and practical constraints. The stiffening evaluation process of CFS lipped channel columns, a five different cross section are considered. The experimental strength and behaviour of the proposed sections are verified by using the finite element analysis (FEA). A series comprehensive parametric study is carried out covering a wide range of section slenderness and overall slenderness ratio of the CFS column with and without intermediate web stiffeners. The ultimate strength of the sections is determined based on the Direct Strength Specification and other design equation available from the literature for CFS structures. A modified design method is proposed for the DSM specification. The results indicate that the CFS column with complex edge and intermediate web stiffeners provides an ultimate strength which is up to 78% higher than standard optimized shapes with the same amount of cross sectional area.

  • Introduction of prestressed concrete slabs based on post-tensioned (PT) method aids in constructing larger spans, more useful floor height, and reduces the total weight of the building. In the present paper, for the first time, simulation of 32 two-way PT slab-edge column connections is performed and verified by some existing experimental results which show good consistency. Finite element method is used to assess the performance of bonded and unbonded slab-column connections and the impact of different parameters on these connections. Parameters such as strand bonding conditions, presence or absence of a shear cap in the area of slab-column connection and the changes of concrete compressive strength are implied in the modeling. The results indicate that the addition of a shear cap increases the flexural capacity, further increases the shear strength and converts the failure mode of connections from shear rigidity to flexural ductility. Besides, the reduction of concrete compressive strength decreases the flexural capacity, further reduces the shear strength of connections and converts the failure mode of connections from flexural ductility to shear rigidity. Comparing the effect of high concrete compressive strengths versus the addition of a shear cap, shows that the latter increases the shear capacity more significantly.

  • In the present study, design methodologies for effective width of slabs in slab-column connections were evaluated in comparison with the experimental results on the full-scale slab-column connections. The design methodologies are as follows: the methodology proposed by Jacob S. Grossman and the methodology proposed by Choi & Song. The former does not predict the stiffness change of the slab-column connection due to the change in the column section shape and the latter overestimates the stiffness when edge length of the column section in the loading direction is long. Accordingly, the equation to calculate the effective width of slabs should be modified to reflect the effect of the change in the column section shape.

  • Results of an experimental study on the pullout behavior of the headed reinforcement are presented. A total of 48 pullout tests was performed to evaluate pullout strengths and load-displacement behaviors in pullout of the headed bars. The square steel heads had gross area of 4 $A_{b}$ and thickness of $d_{b}$ The test program consisted of three pullout test groups: Simple and Edge pullout tests using plain concrete slabs, comparison of pullout performances between the standard hooks and the headed reinforcement, and pullout tests of headed reinforcement using reinforced concrete columns. Test variables included concrete strengths ( $f_{c}$' = 27.1MPa, 39.1MPa), reinforcing bar diameters (D16~D29), embedment depths (6 $d_{b}$~12 $d_{b}$), edge conditions, column reinforcement, and single-vs.-multiple bar pullout. Test results revealed that the heads effectively provided the pullout resistances of the deformed bars in tension. The load-displacement behaviors were similar between the 90-degree hooks and the headed reinforcement. When a multiple number of headed bars installed with small head-to-head spacings was pulled out, reinforcement designed to run across the concrete failure surface in a direction parallel to the headed bars helped improve the pullout performances of the headed reinforcement.t.ement.t.

  • This paper presents a hardware edge detector of image signal at pixel level of CMOS image sensor (CIS). The circuit detects edges of an image based on a bump circuit combining with the pixels. The APS converts light into electrical signals and the bump circuit compares the brightness between the target pixel and its neighbor pixels. Each column on CIS 64 by 64 pixels array shares a comparator. The comparator decides a peak level of the target pixel comparing with a reference voltage. The proposed edge detector is implemented using 0.18um CMOS technology. The circuit shows higher fill factor 34% and power dissipation by 0.9uW per pixel at 1.8V supply.
