This paper is concerned with the economic selection of both the lower limit and the process mean for a continuous production process. Consider a production process where items are produced continuously. All of the items are subject to acceptance inspection. The items for which the measured values of the quality characteristic are larger than the lower limit are accepted, and those smaller than the lower limit are rejected and excluded from shipment. The process mean may be set higher to reduce the costs incurred by imperfect quality. Using a higher process mean, however, results in a higher production cost when production cost is an increasing function of the quality characteristic. Assuming that the quality characteristic is normally distributed with known variability, cost models are constructed which involve production cost, cost incurred by imperfect quality, rejection cost, and inspection cost. Methods of finding optimal values of the lower limit and the process mean are presented and numerical examples are given.
This thesis introduces the trends of korean courts' ruling on damages in medical malpractice cases for past 10 years. First of all, Korean courts' ruling have had a tendency to pay only non-economic damages for not taking the informed consent. If a doctor cannot get the informed consent from a patient, he compensate only non-economic damages for the infringement of self-determination rights of patient. It's enough for the plaintiff to prove the infringement of self-determination rights, if the plaintiff just want to get non-economic damages. The Korean Supreme court have ruled that if plaintiffs want to get economic damages for the infringement of self-determination rights or informed consent, plaintiffs must prove that the infringement of self-determination rights is the proximate cause of the economic damages of patient. There is another tendency for the Korean Supreme court to limit the damages in medical malpractice cases on the ground of patient's diseases' dangerousness or patient's idiosyncrasy. In the past courts often limit the damages only to 70~80% of total damages, but now a days courts mostly limit the damages to 20~30%. This thesis also introduce the Korean courts' trends about Valuing damages in personal injury actions awarded for gratuitously rendered nursing and medical care.
The quality control literature contains a substantial number of articles concerned with how to optimally choose control limits in order to minimize production cost. The purpose of the this study is to determine the economic setting for the process mean of an industrial process. In this study it is assumed that the lower control limit is set by government regulations and the u, pp.r limit and process mean are chosen based on economic considerations. Much research has been conducted on this problem under the condition of the fixed rpm(rate per minute). However a variance can be increased in proportion to the level of rpm and the increase of the variance can change the optimal process mean. Therefore, it is desirable to determine both the process mean and the level of rpm simultaneously. In this paper, a mathematical model is presented which considers the u, pp.r limit and the rpm as variables.
This paper is designed a VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL synthetic control chart in aspect of economy. We found the optimal sampling interval and various control limit factors under various cost parameters using cost function, proposed Lorenzen and Vance. Optimal design parameters include the sample size, control limit width, sampling interval, CRL/S chart control limit; L. Comparison and analysis of cost parameters are applied between synthetic VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart and FSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart. The result of this paper shows that VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart brings cost-cutting effect of 3.04% control expense less than FSI control chart. It may not be difficult to establish the optimal economic control parameters to apply the practical cost parameters in the field.

An Economic selection of specification limits is considered for a given target value in a complete inspection plan. Each item is inspected, and if it meets the specification, it is accepted. Items less than the lower specification limit are scrapped or sold at a reduced price, and those greater than the upper specification limit are reworked. Cost factors to be considered are economic loss caused by quality deviations, rework cost and scrapping cost. Methods for finding the optimal specification limits are given for the cases of piecewise linear loss function and quadratic loss function with illustrative examples.
The paper examines dynamic relationship among 'Limit to Growth' factors in Korea using causal loop diagram. It also aims to explore policy implications for Korea in overcoming current difficulties and future crisis we may face. For this purpose, five factors -economy, population, resource, environment, food- used in the were adopted as an analytical framework. Findings show that Korea is fragile to external shock such as world economic crisis, food price surge, and resource price -including energy price- hike. High dependency of energy, food and resource on foreign market was found to be a major source of limit to growth in Korea. Furthermore, environmental problems like global warming could be a major external shock that could hit Korea harder than the rest of the world. Policy implications and measures for these problems were discussed too.
Tris paper present an economic statistical design which have statistically constraints for the optimal design of an EWMA control charts with variable sampling interval. Cost function use that proposed by Lorenzen and Vance, and the optimal design parameters include the sample size, control limit width, sampling interval, EWMA weight value. Comparisons between VSI EWMA control charts optimal economic design and optimal economic statistical designs show the following fact. Although have demerits which are more costly than economic design, have merits which to detect shifts more efficiently and to improve statistical performance.
To ensure durability and light weight of bridges, high-strength concrete is required for long-span deck slabs. Such a technology eventually extends the life of bridges and improves the economic efficiency. The results of this study suggests a formula for calculating the minimum thickness of long-span deck slabs built with high strength concrete. The minimum thickness is proposed based on the limit states indicated in the CEB-FIP Model Code and the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code(limit state design). The design compressive strength of concrete used for the study is 80MPa. Moreover, the required thickness for satisfying the flexural capacity and limiting deflection is estimated considering the limit state load combination. The formula for minimum thickness of deck slabs is proposed considering the ultimate limit state(ULS) and the serviceability limit state(SLS) of bridges, and by comparing the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code and similar previous studies. According to the research finding, the minimum thickness of long-span deck slab is more influenced by deflection limit than flexural capacity.
Purpose of this paper is to review series of Limits to Growth studies from its original Rome Club Report published in 1972 to the most recent one in 2012 by Jorgen Randers and finds its implications on concept and strategy of sustainable development. For this purpose first, this paper reviewed series of Limits to Growth studies in details with focus on scenarios used in simulation of world model. Second, response to the original Limit to Growth was reviewed and to see validity of its scenario based simulations, simulated results of interest variables and actual historical data up to the year 2010 was compared. Third, structure and key arguments in both studies, Limit to Growth studies and Our Common Future was explained and compared. Finally, implications of the Limit to Growth studies on concept and strategy for sustainable development was discussed. Based on the comparison, this paper argued that even if the term sustainable development was not used in the Limit to Growth at all, concept and strategies for sustainable development implied in the Limit to Growth are more clear and specific than those of Our Common Future. Since Limit to Growth studies were simulation based ones that produce detailed behaviors on interest variables, it clarifies more clearly the abstract concept of sustainable development and thus, provides specific guidelines for the direction of sustainable policy which has been suffering long from vagueness of concept of sustainable development.
