An Empirical Study on the Measurement of e-Learning Success (e러닝 성공 평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate on measuring the success of e-Learning. For this purpose, we proposed a research model that consists of e-Learning contents quality, e-Learning system quality, e-Lecturing quality, sense of e-Learning community factors as independent factors and e-Learning and e-Learning satisfaction as mediators and tested it empirically based on the structural equation model. The empirical results showed that e-Learning contents quality, e-Learning system quality, sense of e-Learning community factors directly lead to e-Learning. The study also found that e-Learning contents quality, e-Lecturing quality, sense of e-Learning community factors bring about higher e-Learning satisfaction and that e-Learning satisfaction has a positive impact on e-Learning. Furthermore, the research discovered that both e-Learning and e-Learning satisfaction have a significant relationship with e-Learning net benefits. This research renders its theoretical contribution to analyzing a positive influence of sense of e-Learning community, a newly suggested variable added to the existing IS success model in this study, on e-Learning. From a practical view, the findings of this study can lead to improving the quality of e-Learning in today's era where the growth of e-Learning industry is quite noticeable.

  • The present paper examines the effect of "community of learning" factors as well as learning and contextual factors on the e-learning performance empirically. The concept of community of learning, which was derived from community of practice, has not been emphasized in previous studies on e-learning. Data were collected from 226 people who had experienced e-learning and multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the data. The results are as follows; First, learning motivation and appropriateness of learning contents, ease of system use, and knowledge sharing have a positive effect on learner's satisfaction. Whereas, learning motivation, appropriateness of learning contents, ease of system use, knowledge sharing, and activated communication are appeared to affect the ability of performing tasks significantly.

An Empirical Assessment of the Strategic Roles of e-Learning Center in the Community of Local Universities (지역 대학 e-Learning 센터의 전략적 역할분석에 관한 연구)

  • Today, many universities are confronted with the changing education paradigm such as e-Learning, Distance Education, Virtual University. This IT-based learning paradigm shift is certainly a new opportunity or a threat to our universities. The Local University Community e-Learning Centers that support the demand of e-Learning for their community are recommended. Tn order to operate these centers efficiently, the strategic roles of the e-Learning center should first be defined. To define the strategic roles, We classified the strategic roles of the e-Learning center into four dimensions, (1) to improve management efficiency, (2) to enhance educational service, (3) to acquire competitive advantages, (4) to build new education infrastructure, and each dimension has S or 6 measurement items. As result, to enhance the educational service was considered as the most significant factor among the four dimensions of strategic roles, and the infrastructure building was the next. Through the strategic roles definition and analysis of expected role ratings, we could have recommended the direction and operation policies of the e-Learning centers.

  • In this paper, we developed an intelligent web based e-learning system based on multi agents. To do development of the system, we applied an inclination test that is based on the education theory to do grouping the desirable e-learning community. The proposed system, Intelligent Web based e-learning Multi Agent System (IMAS), is used the multi agents paradigm including learning manner by neural network for grouping of e-learning community and a new distributed multi agent framework proposed here.

To overcome this problem the universities should think e-Learning as strategic weapon, such as many firms created competitive weapons from the information systems at the 1980s. So, e-Learning system can be a SIS(Strategic Information System) which supports university's future education strategies. To build a e-Learning system, not only many H/W and S/W resources but also expert personnels are required. An organization such as local university who is week at financial status can't himself plan the system. The Local University Community e-Learning Centers that support the demand of e-learning for their community are recommended. In order to operate these centers efficiently, the strategic roles of the e-Learning center should first be defined. To define the strategic roles, We classified the strategic roles of the e-Learning center into four dimensions, (1) to improve management efficiency, (2) to enhance educational service, (3) to acquire competitive advantages, (4) to build new education infrastructure, and each dimension has 5 or 6 measurement items. We also tried to find the difference for each factor by the characteristics of responsor. The data showed that there was litter difference between the groups in evaluating the significance of strategic roles of e-learning centers. Through the strategic roles definition and analysis of expected role ratings, we could have recommended the direction and operation policies of the e-Loaming centers.

  • I analyzed the results of the influences the community activities will have on students' participation and how much these influences will satisfy students in terms of learning in an e-learning-based environment. These results were based on former studies on this topic. I summarized the characteristics of community activities, the methods for motivating learning desire, and students' participation in the learning session. I found out that community activities can form intimacy, and that using cell phone text messages (SMS) and emails as learning methods can be a factor in students' participation.

  • Compared with traditional face-to-face instruction, online learning causes learners to experience more severe feeling of isolation and results in higher dropout rate. This is due to the lack of interaction, sense of belonging, membership, interdependency, cooperation among members and social environment that enables persistence in online learning. Therefore, it is very important for grouping e-learning community to lower the dropout rate and eliminate feeling of isolation. In this paper, the research has been done on the inclination test list to be applied for grouping the desirable learning community. And on the basis of this research, the grouping system for e-learning community(GSE) based on intelligent multi agents for an inclination test using homogeneous and heterogeneous items has been developed. GSE system has such properties that construct a personalized user profile by an agent, and then make groupings according to users' inclination. When this system was evaluated, about 88% of learners were satisfied, and they wanted the group not to be disorganized but to be maintained.

  • It is very active that existing companies of providing e-Learning contents try to differentiate themselves through a business model based on Web 2.0. For instance, Etoos, online education website (www.etoos.com) run by SK Communications has made more space where students can participate in the Web 2.0 era and overhauled its website completely, turning into an open-ended one, which strengthens learning and fun in 2007. This study is to analyze the present state of e-Learning contents with representative e-learning sites for middle and high school students, to find that the development direction for next generation e-Learning lies in developing contents focusing on learners that can get effective feedback and drawing collective intelligence grounded on the essence of Web 2.0, and to suggest 'the project to form virtual private tutor community in e-Learning contents.'

  • In this paper, the research has been done to develop the inclination test items to form the desirable online learning community in which social interaction may be maximized, dropout rate lowered and learners' feeling of isolation eliminated. Once developed, the inclination test items have been classified into homogeneous ones and heterogeneous ones. And on the basis of the results of this research, Intelligent agent based Inclination Test Grouping e-learning System(IIGS) has been developed, which can perform automatic grouping of online leaning community by intelligent agent. The results of this research with 1,000 teachers in reality by means of developing the grouping system have shown that 151 groups are automatically formed. Among them, 34% have shown very high degree of learning satisfaction and intended to maintain the groups in the future.

  • The paper focuses on a new 'learning ecology' that is evolving and the challenges that educators must confront. It looks at e-learning as not just another add-on, but a technology that is transforming our educational institutions. How teaching and learning is conceptualized and experienced to generate a determined community of inquiry that integrates social, cognitive, and teaching presence in a manner that will take full advantage of the distinctive assets of e-learning is discussed. Likewise, the possibility of mobile learning is put forward.
