  • The incidence of blindness resulting from diabetic retinopathy has significantly increased despite the intervention of insulin to control diabetes mellitus. Early signs are microaneurysms, exudates, intraretinal hemorrhages, cotton wool patches, microvascular abnormalities, and venous beading. Advanced stages include neovascularization, fibrous formations, preretinal and vitreous microhemorrhages, and retinal detachment. Microaneurysm count is important because it is an indicator of retinopathy progression. The purpose of this paper is to apply data mining to detect diabetic retinopathy patterns in routine fundus fluorescein angiography. Early symptoms are of principal interest and therefore the emphasis is on detecting microaneurysms rather than vessel tortuosity. The analysis does not involve image-recognition algorithms. Instead, mathematical filtering isolates microaneurysms, microhemorrhages, and exudates as objects of disconnected sets. A neural network is trained on their distribution to return fractal dimension. Hausdorff and box counting dimensions grade progression of the disease. The field is acquired on fluorescein angiography with resolution superior to color ophthalmoscopy, or on patterns produced by physical or mathematical simulations that model viscous fingering of water with additives percolated through porous media. A mathematical filter and neural network perform the screening process thereby eliminating the time consuming operation of determining fractal set dimension in every case.

  • We have conducted VI CCD photometry of the open cluster NGC 6819 in order to understand the effects of dynamical evolution in old open clusters. Our photometry covers 18' $\times$ 18' on the sky, centered on the cluster, which seems to cover the whole cluster field. Our photometry reaches down to V $\approx$ 20.5, which allows us to analyze the luminosity function and spatial distribution of stars brighter than Mv $\approx$ 8.5. There is a clear evidence for mass segregation in NGC 6819, i.e., the giants and upper main-sequence stars are concentrated in the inner regions, whereas the lower main-sequence stars distribute almost uniformly throughout the cluster. The luminosity function of the main-sequence stars of NGC 6819 is almost flat. The flat luminosity function indicates that a large number of low mass stars has escaped from the cluster unless its initial mass function is much different from the Salpeter type (${\phi}(m){\propto} m^{-(1+x)},x = 1.35$).

  • The nation-wide medicinal plants list is prepared on the basis of the collected plant samples from 22 places of 9 regions where the authors possiblely surveyed and the references on field survey reported by others. No one has reported this kind of list before and the Engler's classification system is applied in this list instead of the previously applied Nakai's classification system. And also Korean name, occurrence, distribution, medicinal part, and name of crude drugs are described in the list. According to the results of this study, the number of the natural and cultivated medicinal plants in Korea are 950 kinds presently; i.e., 719 species, 1 subspecies, 209 varieties, 1 subvariety and 20 formas which belong to 142 families and 437 genera. Out of the 950 medicinal plants, cryptogamae are 22, herbs 550 and woodies are 278. The usual common drugs are 284 kinds and the allied plants are estimated 160 kinds. And there are some folk medicines and un-utillized medicinal plants.

  • Fingerprint verification is being adopted widely to provide positive identification with a high degree of confidence in all practical areas. This popular usage requires reliable methods for matching of these patterns. To meet the latest expectations, the paper presents a pair wise distance histogram method for fingerprint matching. Here, we introduced a randomized algorithm which exploits pair wise distances between the pairs of minutiae, as a basic feature for match. The method undergoes two steps for completion i.e. first it performs the matching locally then global matching parameters are calculated in second step. The proposed method is robust to common problems that fingerprint matching faces, such as scaling, rotation, translational changes and missing points etc. The paper includes the test of algorithm on various randomly generated minutiae and real fingerprints as well. The results of the tests resemble qualities and utility of method in related field.

  • In this study, we performed a modeling for $K^{+}$ ion-exchanged diffused channel waveguide and waveguide-type optical coupler by Wentzel-Kramer-Brillouin(WKB) dispersion equation, normalized field distribution equation for mode and coupled mode theory, and examined the optical-power-dividing of the optical coupler fabricated by using the modeling condition. The optical-power-dividing was observed at the waveguide-type optical coupler with 3[.mu.m] line-width, 6[.mu.m] space between channel waveguides, and 3[mm] interaction length.h.

  • While quasars are sparse in number density, they reside at relatively high-redshift as compared to e.g. luminous red galaxies. Hence, they are likely to be less non-linearly evolved than the galaxy population, and thus have a distribution that more closely mirrors the primordial density field. Therefore, they offer an intriguing opportunity to search for Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO). To this end, the 3-point correlation function (3PCF) is an excellent statistical tool to detect BAO. In this work, we will make the first-ever measurement of the large-scale quasar 3PCF from the SDSS-IV DR14 quasar sample (spanning the largest volume to-date). This work will use the order N2-time 3PCF algorithmof Slepian & Eisenstein (2015), with N the number of objects.

  • An experimental study was carried out with an aerated nozzle. This nozzle was well known that the performance of the atomization is better than other ones even though the supplied air pressure is lower than that of them. The purpose of this investigation is to provide the essential information of the aerated nozzle from the nozzle exit. The experimental work was performed in order to analyze the characteristics of the overall flow field from the nozzle exit. The 2-D PDPA system was used to acquire the data in the concerned region. The characteristics of the mean velocity distribution, half-width, and SMD were mainly analyzed. Also the correlation between turbulent kinetic energy and SMD was described with ALR.

  • Purpose: In this paper, storage lifetime of delay system in the fuse of 81MM illuminating projectile is estimated. Methods: Accelerated degradation testings of tungsten delay system using both temperature and humidity stresses were performed, and then delay time increase of the systems were analyzed as degradation data based on distribution-based degradation processes. Results: The estimated storage lifetime of detonator is between 11.8 years and 17.6 years with each stress-life relationship. Conclusion: Comparing with field data, storage lifetime of 90% reliability is about 12 years.

  • The design techniques of an asymmetric TEM (ATEM) cell for calibrating E/H filed probes are presented in this paper. The authors describe the techniques to obtain not only the arbitrary frequency and second resonant frequency, but also the test space with $\pm$2dB filed uniformity. We could design an ATEM cell that the measured data, electric filed distribution inside the cell, impedance matching and resonant frequencies, agree with the calculated results.

  • The electron swarm parameters in the$CF_4$(O.l%, 5%)+Ar mixtures are measured by time of flight method over the E/N(Td) range from 10 to 300LTdl. A two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation have been also used to study electron transport coefficients. We have calculated W, NDL, NDT, $\alpha$ and the limiting breakdown electric field to gas mixtures ratio in pure $CF_4$ gas and$CF_4+Ar$ mixtures. The measured results and the calculated results have been compared each other paper.
