The effect of dead loads on dynamic responses of uniform elastic beams is examined by means of a governing equation which takes into account initial bending stress due to dead loads. First, the governing equation of beams which includes the effect of dead loads is briefly presented from the author's paper (Takabatake 1990). In the formulation the effect of dead loads is considered by strain energy produced by conservative initial stresses produced by the dead loads. Second, the effect of dead loads on dynamical responses produced by live loads in simply supported beams and clamped beams is confirmed by the results of numerical computations with the Galerkin method and Wilson-${\theta}$ method. It is shown that the dynamical responses, like dynamic deflections and bending moments produced by dynamic live loads, are decreased in a heavyweight beam when the effect of dead loads is included. Third, an approximate solution for dynamic deflections including the effect of dead loads is presented in closed-form. The proposed solution shows good in agreement with results of numerical computations with the Galerkin method and Wilson-${\theta}$ method. Finally, a method reflecting the effect of dead loads for dynamic responses of beams on the magnitude of live loads is presented by an example.
This paper deals with the dynamical analysis of a vessel that leads to capsize in regular beam seas. The complete investigation of nonlinear behaviors includes sub-harmonic motion, bifurcation, and chaos under variations of control parameters. The vessel rolling motions can exhibit various undesirable nonlinear phenomena. We have employed a linear-plus-cubic type damping term (LPCD) in a nonlinear rolling equation. Using the fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm with the phase portraits, various dynamical behaviors (limit cycles, bifurcations, and chaos) are presented in beam seas. On increasing the value of control parameter ${\Omega}$, chaotic behavior interspersed with intermittent periodic windows are clearly observed in the numerical simulations. The chaotic region is widely spread according to system parameter ${\Omega}$ in the range of 0.1 to 0.9. When the value of the control parameter is increased beyond the chaotic region, periodic solutions are dominant in the range of frequency ratio ${\Omega}=1.01{\sim}1.6$. In addition, one more important feature is that different types of stable harmonic motions such as periodicity of 2T, 3T, 4T and 5T exist in the range of ${\Omega}=0.34{\sim}0.83$.
A non-clipped semi-active stochastic optimal control strategy for nonlinear structural systems with MR dampers is developed based on the stochastic averaging method and stochastic dynamical programming principle. A nonlinear stochastic control structure is first modeled as a semi-actively controlled, stochastically excited and dissipated Hamiltonian system. The control force of an MR damper is separated into passive and semi-active parts. The passive control force components, coupled in structural mode space, are incorporated in the drift coefficients by directly using the stochastic averaging method. Then the stochastic dynamical programming principle is applied to establish a dynamical programming equation, from which the semi-active optimal control law is determined and implementable by MR dampers without clipping in terms of the Bingham model. Under the condition on the control performance function given in section 3, the expressions of nonlinear and linear non-clipped semi-active optimal control force components are obtained as well as the non-clipped semi-active LQG control force, and thus the value function and semi-active nonlinear optimal control force are actually existent according to the developed strategy. An example of the controlled stochastic hysteretic column is given to illustrate the application and effectiveness of the developed semi-active optimal control strategy.
Fractional kinetic equations are investigated in order to describe the various phenomena governed by anomalous reaction in dynamical systems with chaotic motion. Many authors have provided solutions of various families of fractional kinetic equations involving special functions. Here, in this paper, we aim at presenting solutions of certain general families of fractional kinetic equations using Prabhakar-type operators. The idea of present paper is motivated by Tomovski et al. [21].
Bifurcation method of dynamical systems is employed to investigate exact solitary wave solutions and kink wave solutions in the generalized modified Boussinesq equation. Under some parameter conditions, their explicit expressions are obtained. Some previous results are extended.
In this paper, we are concerned with the existence of random dynamics for stochastic non-autonomous reaction-diffusion equations driven by a Wiener-type multiplicative noise defined on the unbounded domains.

As a companion to an adiabatic version developed by Ryu and his coworkers, we have built an isothermal magnetohydrodynamic code for astrophysical flows. It is suited for the dynamical simulations of flows where cooling timescale is much shorter than dynamical timescale, as well as for turbulence and dynamo simulations in which detailed energetics are unimportant. Since a simple isothermal equation of state substitutes the energy conservation equation, the numerical schemes for isothermal flows are simpler (no contact discontinuity) than those for adiabatic flows and the resulting code is faster. Tests for shock tubes and Alfven wave decay have shown that our isothermal code has not only a good shock capturing ability, but also numerical dissipation smaller than its adiabatic analogue. As a real astrophysical application of the code, we have simulated the nonlinear three-dimensional evolution of the Parker instability. A factor of two enhancement in vertical column density has been achieved at most, and the main structures formed are sheet-like and aligned with the mean field direction. We conclude that the Parker instability alone is not a viable formation mechanism of the giant molecular clouds.
The MEMS structures usually are made from silicon; consideration of the viscoelastic effect in microbeams duo to the phenomena of silicon creep is necessary. Application of the fractional model of microbeams made from viscoelastic materials is studied in this paper. Quasi-static and dynamical responses of an electrically actuated viscoelastic microbeam are investigated. For this purpose, a nonlinear finite element formulation of viscoelastic beams in combination with the fractional derivative constitutive equations is elucidated. The four-parameter fractional derivative model is used to describe the constitutive equations. The electric force acting on the microbeam is introduced and numerical methods for solving the nonlinear algebraic equation of quasi-static response and nonlinear equation of motion of dynamical response are described. The deflected configurations of a microbeam for different purely DC voltages and the tip displacement of the microbeam under a combined DC and AC voltages are presented. The validity of the present analysis is confirmed by comparing the results with those of the corresponding cases available in the literature.
In this paper, we study nonlinear equation arising in MEMS modeling electrostatic actuation. We will prove the local and global existence of solutions of the generalized parabolic MEMS equation. We present that there exists a constant ${\lambda}^*$ such that the associated stationary problem has a solution for any ${\lambda}$ < ${\lambda}^*$ and no solution for any ${\lambda}$ > ${\lambda}^*$. We show that when ${\lambda}$ < ${\lambda}^*$ the global solution converges to its unique maximal steady-state as $t{\rightarrow}{\infty}$. We also obtain the condition for the existence of a touchdown time $T{\leq}{\infty}$ for the dynamical solution. Furthermore, there exists $p_0$ > 1, as a function of $p$, the pull-in voltage ${\lambda}^*(p)$ is strictly decreasing with respect to 1 < $p$ < $p_0$, and increasing with respect to $p$ > $p_0$.
