Field measurements of the wind-induced response of two residential reinforced concrete buildings, among the tallest in the world, have been performed during two typhoons. Natural periods and damping values have been determined and compared with other field measurements and empirical predictors. Suitable and common empirical predictors of natural period and structural damping have been obtained that describe the trend of tall, reinforced concrete buildings whose structural vibrations have been measured in the collection of studies in Hong Kong compiled by the authors. This data is especially important as the amount of information known about the dynamic parameters of buildings of these heights is limited. Effects of the variation of the natural period and damping values on the alongwind response of a tall building for serviceability-level wind conditions have been profiled using the gust response factor approach. When using this approach on these two buildings, the often overestimated natural periods and structural damping values suggested by empirical predictors tended to offset each other. Gust response factors calculated using the natural periods and structural damping values measured in the field were smaller than if calculated using design-stage values.

In this paper, a new gray scale expression method that divides the scan lines into multiple blocks is suggested. The proposed method can drive 16 sub-fields per 1 TV field in the panel with XGA ($1366{\times}768$) resolution. The on and off states of even subfields depend on the condition of odd subfields. The write address mode is used in the odd subfields, while the erase address mode is used in the even subfields. Because the ramp reset pulse is applied every 2 sub-fields, both the contrast ratio and the dynamic voltage margin are sufficiently obtained in comparison with previous AWD (Address While Display) methods. In realizing 16 subfields, shortening the scan time in the erase address period was important. The X bias voltage in the erase address period affected the minimum address voltage but did not the delay time of the address discharge. The delay time of the address discharge was affected by the address voltage and the time interval between the last sustain discharge and the scanning time. We also evaluated the dynamic false contour. New method shows an improved image quality in horizontal moving, but discontinuous lines were observed at the boundaries of each block in vertical moving

This study aims to identify the elasticities and casualties of financial performance and determinants of the mining and extractive companies listed in Jordan's stock market over the 2005-2018 period. The conceptual framework is based on the Resource-Based View theory and Arbitrage Pricing theory is used to describe the relationship between the external environment and the financial performance of the companies. Profitability ratio (return on assets) is utilized as a proxy of financial performance measurement. Meantime, the company's characteristics, macroeconomic variables, and non-economic factors are utilized as independent factors. Data sources are panel data set for mining and extractive companies over the above period. Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS), Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS), and Pooled Mean Group (PMG) methods are applied. The empirical findings indicated that company size, sales growth, financial leverage, liquidity, and GDP growth were the critical determinants of mining and extractive companies' financial performance in the Amman Stock Exchange. Thus, the findings conclude that company characteristics and GDP growth mainly drive financial performance. Moreover, the findings reveal that a bidirectional causal elasticity exists between GDP and financial leverage and return on assets (ROA). Sound financial performance can be obtained by paying more attention to GDP growth and firms' characteristics.
This study focuses on the influence of strong ground motion duration on the response and collapse probability of reinforced concrete walls with a predominant response in flexure. Walls with different height and mass were used to account for a broad spectrum of configurations and fundamental periods. The walls were designed following the specifications of the Chilean design code. Non-linear models of the reinforced concrete walls using a distributed plasticity approach were performed in OpenSees and calibrated with experimental data. Special attention was put on modeling strength and stiffness degradation. The effect of duration was isolated using spectrally equivalent ground motions of long and short duration. In order to assess the behavior of the RC shear walls, incremental dynamic analyses (IDA) were performed, and fragility curves were obtained using cumulative and non-cumulative engineering demand parameters. The spectral acceleration at the fundamental period of the wall was used as the intensity measure (IM) for the IDAs. The results show that the long duration ground motion set decreases the average collapse capacity in walls of medium and long periods compared to the results using the short duration set. Also, it was found that a lower median intensity is required to achieve moderate damage states in the same medium and long period wall models. Finally, strength and stiffness degradation are important modelling parameters and if they are not included, the damage in reinforced concrete walls may be greatly underestimated.

In this paper, we proposed an efficient TDMA scheduling algorithm for a clustered Wireless Sensor Network. Since some previous algorithms used unnecessary idle period and schedule period in each frame. It became an overhead that might consume unexpected energy and delay data transmission. To solve this problem, a dynamic scheduling algorithm according to the number of member nodes and node traffic load within a cluster was suggested. Our proposed DS-MAC(Dynamic Scheduling MAC) could save energy and reduce transmission delay Then DS-MAC was analyzed mathematically to compare with the previous algorithms.
This paper proposes an effective inertia coefficient (EIC) in the Morison equation for better wave-force calculations. The OC4 semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) platform was considered to test the feasibility. Large diffraction at large Keulegan-Carpenter (KC) numbers and the interaction between columns can result in errors in estimating the wave force using the Morison equation with a theoretical inertia coefficient, which can be corrected by the EIC as a function of the wave period and direction. The horizontal and vertical wave forces were calculated using the Morison equation and potential theory at each column, wave period, and wave direction. The EICs of each column were then obtained, resulting in a minimal difference between the Morison inertia force and the wave excitation force by the potential theory. The EICs, wave forces, phase angles, and dynamic motions were compared to confirm the feasibility of an EIC concept under regular and random waves.

In this study, a series of dynamic centrifuge tests were performed for a soil-foundation-structural interaction system in dry sand with various embedded depths and superstructure conditions. Sinusoidal wave, sweep wave and real earthquake were used as input motion with various input acceleration and frequencies. Based on the results, a natural period and an earthquake load for soil-structure interaction system were evaluated by comparing the free-field and foundation accelerations. The natural period of free field is longer than that of the soil-foundation-structure system. In addition, it is confirmed that the earthquake load for soil-foundation-structure system is smaller than that of free-field in short period region. In contrast, the earthquake load for soil-foundation-structure interaction system is larger than that of free-field in long period region. Therefore, the current seismic design method, applying seismic loading of free-field to foundation, could overly underestimate seismic load and cause unsafe design for long period structures, such as high-rise buildings.
This paper proposes the necessity of a walking period in footstep planning and details situations in which it should be considered. An optimization-based fast footstep planner that takes the walking period into consideration is also presented. This footstep planner comprises three stages. A binary search is first used to determine the walking period. The front stride, side stride, and walking direction are then determined using the modified rapidly-exploring random tree algorithm. Finally, particle swarm optimization (PSO) is performed to ensure feasibility without departing significantly from the results determined in the two stages. The parameters determined in the previous two stages are optimized together through the PSO. Fast footstep planning is essential for coping with dynamic obstacle environments; however, optimization techniques may require a large computation time. The two stages play an important role in limiting the search space in the PSO. This framework enables fast footstep planning without compromising on the benefits of a continuous optimization approach.
Recently, the volume of unstructured text data generated by various social media has been increasing rapidly; consequently, the use of text mining to support decision-making has also been growing. In particular, academia and industry are paying significant attention to topic analysis in order to discover the main issues from a large volume of text documents. Topic analysis can be regarded as static analysis because it analyzes a snapshot of the distribution of various issues. In contrast, some recent studies have attempted to perform dynamic issue tracking, which analyzes and traces issue trends during a predefined period. However, most traditional issue tracking methods have a common limitation : when a new period is included, topic analysis must be repeated for all the documents of the entire period, rather than being conducted only on the new documents of the added period. Additionally, traditional issue tracking methods do not concentrate on the transition of individuals' interests from certain issues to others, although the methods can illustrate macro-level issue trends. In this paper, we propose an individual interests tracking methodology to overcome the two limitations of traditional issue tracking methods. Our main goal is not to track macro-level issue trends but to analyze trends of individual interests flow. Further, our methodology has extensible characteristics because it analyzes only newly added documents when the period of analysis is extended. In this paper, we also analyze the results of applying our methodology to news articles and their access logs.
To determine the effects of dry period (DP) length on milk yield, milk composition, some blood metabolites, complete blood count (CBC), body weight and score and follicular status, twenty five primiparous and multiparous Holstein cows were assigned to a completely randomized design with DP-60 (n = 13) and DP-20 (n = 12) dry period lengths. Cows in the DP-60 produced more milk, protein, SNF, serum non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) and beta hydroxyl butyrate acid (BHBA) compared with cows in DP-20 ($p{\leq}0.05$). Serum glucose, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), urea, and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) were all similar among the treatments. Body Condition Score (BCS), body weight (BW), complete blood count (CBC) and health problems were similar between the treatments. Diameter of the first dominant follicle and diameter of the dominant follicle on d 14 were different among the treatments. Thus, results of this study showed that reducing the dry period length to DP-20 had a negative effect on milk production, milk composition and reproductive performance in Holstein dairy cows.
