There are various noises generated by friction. Among the rest, eliminating squeal noise generated during braking is an important task for the improvement of vehicle passengers' comfort. The parameters affecting brake squeal noise are the material properties of the braking pad, the dynamic properties of the brake parts and the dimensions of the brake assemble etc. Also, the squeal noise changes its inherent form(i.e. its sound pressure level and its frequency) with the normal load and sliding speed. In this study, the characteristics of brake squeal noise generated by friction is analyzed experimentally. The experiment focused on the analysis of friction self-excited vibrationand squeal noise level. Friction self-excited vibration is caused by the dry friction between pads and rotor, and occurs as a function of their relative sliding speeds. And Friction self-excited vibration is raised the brake squeal noise.

A discrete time model reference adaptive control has been applied in order to compensate the nonlinear friction characteristics in a hydraulic proportional position control system. As nonlinear friction, static and coulomb friction forces are considered and modeled as dead zone and external disturbance respectively. The model reference adaptive control system consists of a cascade combination of the dead zone. external disturbance and linear dynamic block. For adaptive control experiment. the DSP(Digital Signal Processor) board has been interfaced the hydraulic proportional position control system. The experimental results show that the MRAC(Model Reference Adaptive Control) for compensation of static and coulomb friction are very effective.

The use of displacement-dependent rotational friction dampers (RFD) as fuses or interchangeable elements in the moment-resisting frames (MRF) is one of the newest methods for improving seismic performance. In the present study, the performance of rotational friction dampers in MRF has been investigated. Evaluation of MRF with and without RFD models was performed using the finite element method by ABAQUS. For validation, an MRF and MRF with rotational friction dampers were modeled that had been experimentally tested and reported in previous experimental research and a good agreement was observed. The behavior of these dampers in frames of 3-, 6-, and 9-story was studied by modeling the damper directly. Nonlinear time history dynamic analysis was used. It was observed that by increasing the number of stories in the buildings, rotational friction dampers should be used to perform properly against earthquakes. The installation of rotational friction dampers in steel moment-resisting frames shows that the drift ratio between the floors is reduced and the seismic performance of these frames is improved.
The need for developing a mathematical model for pad-pivot friction in tilting pad proceeding bearings has been well-recognized, since previous experimental work about the performances of the bearings hypothesized that the friction in the bearings is closely related to their performances. Especially, the sliding friction between pad and pivot in the ball and socket type of the bearings can influence the performance of the bearing. We propose a mathematical model for pad-pivot friction in the ball and socket type, which considers the geometrics of the pad and pivot of the bearings, by assuming the sliding friction in the ball and socket bearing as Coulomb friction. By utilizing the proposed model for pad-pivot friction, we show the analysis of Reynolds equation and energy equation, which explain the thermo-hydrodynamic characteristics of tilting pad proceeding bearings, by taking into account the turbulence and inlet pressure building as well. The results of the study show that the performance of titling-pad proceeding bearings can be greatly influenced by the pad-pivot friction. In particular, we have shown that the analysis of the pad-pivot friction is useful to explain the static proceeding loci and the dynamic characteristics of the ball and socket type of the bearings. Furthermore, for a given operating condition, we can obtain various equilibrium states which satisfy the static equilibrium conditions, by considering the pad-pivot friction.
This paper presents the analysis of friction master curves for a sliding elastomer on rough granite. The hysteresis friction is calculated using an analytical model that considers the energy spent during the local deformation of the rubber due to surface asperities. The adhesion friction is also considered for dry friction prediction. The viscoelastic modulus of the rubber compound and the large-strain effective modulus are obtained from dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). We accurately demonstrate the large strain of rubber that contacts with road substrate using the GW theory. We found that the rubber block deforms approximately to 40% strain. In addition, the viscoelastic master curve considering nonlinearity (at 40% strain) is derived based on the above finding. As viscoelasticity strongly depends on temperature, it can be assumed that the influence of velocity on friction is connected to the viscoelastic shift factors gained from DMA using the time-temperature superposition. In this study, we apply these shift factors to measure friction on dry granite over a velocity range for various temperatures. The measurements are compared to simulated hysteresis and adhesion friction using the Kluppel friction theory. Although friction results in the low-speed band match well with the simulation results, there are differences in the predicted and experimental results as the velocity increases. Thus, additional research is required for a more precise explanation of the viscoelastic material properties for better prediction of rubber friction characteristics.

The nearest variety of the industrial world requires using the high precision and resolution positioning technology to do a semi-conductor, information field , and measurement field. It is especially important for the positioning technology that makes up a proper controller, is affected by the minimal heat and vibration, and can control a structurally generated non-linear friction factor to determine the efficiency of the system. The paper is to analyze the vibration characteristic according to the speed of linear motor and grasp the dynamic characteristic through the modal test and show the verification of the experimental result and design parameters by using FEM(Finite Element Method). Also, it shows the optimum standard analyzed the acceleration patterns of the moving part that lead to the vibration source in linear motor. It presents the analyzed dynamic of linear motor in compliance with a change of the non-linear factor.
When surveying the cultural heritages especially in the case of stone structures, preserving their originalstate is of primary importance. For the effective assessment of survey results of stone structure, thedynamic characteristics of that system should be considered. Dynamic characteristics of stone masonry structures depend on several factors such as coefficients of friction, contact conditions, and number of layers of bonding stones. These factors can be estimated by using the dynamic analysis results. This paper describes a method for natural frequency determination of traditional stone arch bridge subjected to compressive force. For this purpose, multi-layered granite brick models of for arch bridge were made and fundamental frequencies corresponding increasing axial forces were measured.

In this study, the dynamic behavior of friction bearings of PSC (Pre-Stressed Concrete) box train continuous bridge was numerically analyzed at 10 km/h intervals up to 600 km/h according to the increasing speed of the next-generation high-speed train. A frame model was generated targeting the 40-meter single-span and two-span continuous PSC box bridges in the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway section. The interaction forces including the inertial mass vehicle model with 38 degrees of freedom and the irregularities of the bridge and track were considered. It was calculated the longitudinal displacement, cumulative sliding distance and displacement speed of the bridge bearings at each running speed so that compared with the dynamic behavior trend analysis of the bridge. In addition, long-term friction test standards were applied to evaluate the durability of friction plates.

In a study on the development of Cu-based sintered friction materials, the specimens pressed with various compacting pressures $(3-6 ton/cm^2/)$ have been evaluated to find the optimum condition of compacting pressure. As compacting pressure increased up to $(5 ton/cm^2/)$, mechanical properties such as density, hardness, bending strength, wear and coefficient of friction, etc. improved remarkably, but up to 6 ton/cm$^{2}$, decreased slightly because of traps of gases and water vapors in specimen. Disk assembly composed of 12 pieces of Cu-based friction materials has been compared with one of asbestos-and nonasbestos-based friction materials. In dynamic and driving tests to find burst spin strength, corrosion area rate and friction properties, etc., Cu-based sintered friction materials showed better properties than the others, especially in severe conditions because oxides such as $Cu_2O; and; SnO_2$ in the friction surface of friction materials were formed.
