  • A series of azo based disperse dyes were synthesized and applied to polyester(PET) fiber in supercritical carbon dioxide($ScCO_2$). Various aniline derivatives were used as diazo component and coupled with glycine ethylester or carbonic acid ethylester derivatives to give azo based disperse dyes. Depending on the various diazo substituents, absorption maxima varied from 415 to 529nm in acetone. Dyeing in $ScCO_2$ was carried out at $120^{\circ}C$ and 250bar pressure for 2hrs with 0.5% o.w.f. of dye concentration. Dyed PET fiber had excellent brightness and good light, washing and perspiration(acid/alkali) fastness properties.

  • This paper aimed to find out the eco-friendly approach enabling to directly print patterns and dye colors on fabrics using leaves of plants. In the research process, I found out the 'eco-printing' which could effectively express unique colors and patterns of plants. While eco-printing can design the patterns and colors of plants in nature using the leaves of plant(Eucalyptus), it is difficult to implement because it is not systematically and academically investigated including the dictionary definition in Korea until now. Thus, I tried to define the eco-printing and natural dyeing using leaves or flowers of plants enabling to get natural patterns and colors and do the experimental research and production using the leaves of Eucalyptus. The leaves of Eucalyptus were arranged on a wool scarf and a silk scarf, tied and applied pressure to them and made pigments penetrate into fabrics by heating or steaming them. This approach is to directly print the patterns using the shapes of plants on fabrics unlike the existing approaches dyeing by extracting dyeing solution from natural materials. Furthermore, the change of colors was attempted by using the color fixers. In accordance with the results of this experimental research, the scarf design differentiated from the existing products could be acquired. It was identified that eco-printing could induce the color variables depending on the conditions of each material and environment. For improving the color variables, various kinds of fabrics and divers kinds of materials which can be easily acquired in a daily life will be investigated and compared. Furthermore, it is expected that the experimental research and production techniques on eco-printing be utilized when starting natural dyeing and the scope of natural dyeing be more expanded.

  • In order to apply thermoplastic composites using PETG resin to various industrial fields such as bicycle frames and industrial parts, it is necessary to verify the impact resistance, durability and mechanical properties of the manufactured composite materials. To improve the mechanical properties, durability and impact resistance of PETG resin, an amorphous resin, in this study, compound and injection molding process were carried out using various additives such as TiO2, carbon black, polyolefin elastomer, and PETG amorphous resin. The thermal and mechanical properties of the thermoplastic composites, and the Charpy impact strength. The analysis was performed to evaluate the characteristics according to the types of additives. DSC and DMA analyzes were performed for thermal properties, and tensile strength, flexural strength, and tensile strength change rate were measured using a universal testing machine to evaluate mechanical properties. Charpy impact strength test was conducted to analyze the impact characteristics, and the fracture section was analyzed after the impact strength test. In the case of POE material-added thermoplastic composites, thermal and mechanical properties tend to decrease, but workability and impact resistance tend to be superior to those of PETG materials.

  • The seven kinds of polyester fabrics having different fabric characteristics were investigated in terms of their dyeing levelness under various liquor ratios. The levelness was evaluated statistically from color strength obtained at different sections of each piece of dyed fabrics. The color strength data were analyzed using a exponential decay function of 3 parameters, $y=y_0+ae^{-bx}$. The b value of the function was used as a index of sensitiveness of dependence on liquor ratio of levelness. The index, b value, showed a linear proportional relationship to thickness of fabrics. Average unlevelness of dyeings exhibited a inverse proportional relationship to both weight and thickness of fabrics.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the potential of the neutral extract (NE) prepared by treating P. radiata bark with aqueous NaHCO3 solution as a natural dyestuff. Silk and cotton fabrics were dyed at four different NE concentrations, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% o.w.b. (on the weight of bath). The fabric to liquid ratio of 1 : 50, dyeing temperature of 90℃, and dyeing time of 90 min were used as the fixed condition. The appropriate NE dyeing concentration of silk and cotton fabrics was 1.5% o.w.b. Colors of the dyed silk and cotton fabrics were brown and light brown, respectively. From colorfastness assessment, both dyed silk and cotton showed good washing and rubbing fastness, but poor light fastness. NE dyed fabrics exhibited excellent ammonia deodorization property and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Therefore, NE of P. radiata bark could have the potential for use as a functional brown dyestuff.

  • The dyeing behaviors of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) bulky yarns, DTY(draw textured yarn) and SSY(latent crimped yarn), were investigated with different energy type disperse dyes compared with those of SDY(spin draw yarn). The maximum exhaustions of E-type disperse Red 60, Blue 56 and Yellow 54 on SSY were 99%, 94% and 93%, respectively. The maximum exhaustions of S-type disperse Red 179, Blue 79 and Orange 30 on SSY were 96%, 97% and 97%, respectively. The K/S values of SSY were significantly higher than those of DTY and SDY in all energy type of disperse dyes. The knit fabric composed of SSY became bulky at the end of high temperature dyeing process because of their thermal shrinkage property due to melt viscosity difference.
