Determination of the Optimal Nitrogen Concentration in Pre-planting Fertilizers for the Cultivation of Tomato Plug Seedlings

  • This study investigated the effect of pre-planting nitrogen (N) fertilization levels added to a soilless root medium on the growth of 'Dotaerang Dia' tomato seedlings. The N levels were varied for a total of 7 treatments: 0, 100, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, or $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$. The pH of the root media gradually rose in all treatments as the seedlings grew; however, the differences in the pH were not significant among the treatments. The electrical conductivity (EC) of the root media was significantly different among the treatments from sowing to week three, then drastically decreased after week four, which diminished the differences in the EC among the treatments. At week six, plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, and fresh and dry weights of the shoot were highest for the treatment with $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$. In contrast, the treatment with $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$ had the lowest results for all growth measurements. The fresh weight was 67% heavier in the $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$ treatment compared to the $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$ treatment. The total N content in the tissues was lowest in the treatment with $0mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$ and highest in the treatment with $1,000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$. The contents of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and metal micronutrients in the tissues were highest in the $250mg{\cdot}L^{-1}N$ treatment. A previous study demonstrated that adjusting the fertilization level to promote growth to over 90% of the maximum growth is a good strategy for lowering production costs and preventing damage due to excessive fertilizer absorption by crops. Our results indicated that the optimal pre-planting N fertilization level for tomato plug seedlings should be lower than $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and the optimum tissue N contents should be around 3.21% to 4.60%.

Effect of Salt Level in the Feed on Performance of Red and Fallow Weaner Deer

  • In Australia, many cropping areas are affected by salt. In these regions, Chenopodiaceous plants, such as Atriplex, Kochia and Bassia spp have been planted to improve soil conditions. These plants have become invaluable feed resources for grazing animals in dry summers, but have a high sodium content. To assess the impact of high salt intake on grazing deer, two experiments were conducted. The first experiment used 30 fallow weaner deer to examine the effect of salt level in the diet on feed intake, water intake and body weight of fallow deer. Salt was added to lucerne chaff at 0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6% and fresh water was offered all the time. Increasing the salt level in the diet from 0 to 6% didn't affect feed intake, osmotic pressure and mineral concentration in blood of fallow deer. However, water intake was significantly higher (p<0.05) in deer fed diets containing more than 3% salt. Body weight was lower (p${\leq}$0.056) for fallow deer in July and August when salt content was over 3%, suggesting they can ingest over 15 g sodium/day without significant depression in both feed intake and growth rate if the fresh water is available. In the second experiment, 18 red weaner deer were fed lucerne chaff diets containing 1.5, 4.5 and 6.0% salt with 6 deer/diet. The results revealed that feed intake and blood osmotic pressure were similar (p>0.05) for red deer fed different levels of salt although the feed intake declined from 1.91 to 1.67 kg with the increase of salt level from 1.5% to 6.0% in the diet. Water intake was significantly higher for deer fed diets containing over 4.5% salt, but there was no difference in body weight during the experiment. However, no recommendation can be made on the salt tolerance of red deer due to limited increment of salt level in the diet.

  • Effect of dual inoculation with vesicular-arbuscular(VA) mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus mosseae, and Rhizobium meliloti R455 on growth, nodulation, and nitrogenase activity of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L. cv. Vernal) were examined in pot experiment. After 63 days growth, shoot length, number of leaf, and leaf size of alfalfa were increased as as result of dual inoculation with Glomus mosseae and Rhizobium meliloti. Total dry weight of alfalfa plant was increased 1.4 times compared to single inoculation with Rhizobium meliloti. Nodule number and mean fresh weight of nodule per plant were also increased due to the mycorrhizal infection.

Effect of Artificial Light Source on the Growth and Quality of Lettuce

  • Variations in lettuce growth and quality were observed depending on the type of artificial light source. The RGB LED treatment resulted in thick leaf development, leading to higher fresh weight, dry weight, and relative growth rates. Two cultivars, "Tomalin" and "seonpunggold," exhibited increased anthocyanin content and dark red leaf color under conditions of RGB LED treatment. Additionally, they exhibited high chlorophyll content under conditions of RGB LED and RGBFR LED treatments. Particularly, under Red LED treatment, the plants showed elongated leaves with narrow widths, resulting in a higher leaf shape index and a tendency towards leaf curling. Therefore, RGB LED lighting which appropriately blends red, blue, and green lights, is more effective than single lighr sources at improving lettuce growth and quality.

무와 배추의 생장에 미치는 Alcohol의 영향 (Growth-promoting effects of alcohol on Korean radish and cabbage)

  • This study is an evaluation of growth-promoting effects of methyl and ethyl alcohol on Korean radish and cabbage in the soil. In an experiment as College of Education, Seoul National University, Silt loams, which are treated seven times with methyl and ethyl alcohol at rates from 0.5cc. to 2.5cc. per pot, definitely increase growth rate of radish and cabbage seedlings originating from sterilized seeds. A strong, stimulating effect on the growth of radish and cabbage seedlings is produced when a rate of 0.5cc. per pot of alcohol is applied to pot soils. The effect of methyl alcohol is stronger in fresh weight, dry weight, and average height of radish and cabbage than that of ethyl alcohol.

뿌리혹 선충기생 정도에 따른 인삼의 생육 및 무기성분 변화 (Effect of Root- Knot Nematode Infection on Ginseng Growth of Inorganic Nutrients in Ginseng Roots.)

  • Effect of root-knot nematode (Meloidigyne sp.) 1 infection on the growth and quantity of the inorganic substances in 6 year-old ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) was investigated. Naturally infected 6 year-old ginseng roots were grouped into 3 such as healthy, moderate, and heavy according to the degree of the nematode infection. The roots were sampled in the middle of October, 1980 for chemical analysis. Growth of roots in terms of fresh weight, dry weight, length and diameter was greatly reduced by the nematode infection. The content of inorganic substances was different among the various parts of ginseng roots and according to gall index. Phosphorous and nitrogen contents of the healthy ginseng roots were tend to higher than those of the infected ones, whereas calcium was high in infected roots in the order of heavy, moderate, and healthy. Content of the other inorganic substances was highest in the moderately infected roots, and lowest in the heavy one.

Elaboration and characterization of fiber-reinforced self-consolidating repair mortar containing natural perlite powder

  • This research project aimed at evaluating experimentally the effect of natural perlite powder as an alternative supplementary cementing material (SCM) on the performance of fiber reinforced self-consolidating repair mortars (FR-SCRMs). For this purpose, four FR-SCRMs mixes incorporating 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% of natural perlite powder as cement replacements were prepared. The evaluation was based on fresh (slump flow, flow time, and unit weight), hardened (air-dry unit weight, compressive and flexural strengths, dynamic modulus of elasticity), and durability (water absorption test) performances. The results reveal that structural repair mortars confronting the performance requirements of class R4 materials (European Standard EN 1504-3) could be designed using 10%, 20%, and 30% of perlite powder as cement substitutions. Bonding results between repair mortars containing perlite powder and old concrete substrate investigated by the slant shear test showed good interlocking justifying the effectiveness of these produced mortars.

Bentazone의 약해(藥害)에 미치는 부식산(腐植酸) 및 훌브산(酸)의 영향(影響) (Influence of Humic or Fulvic Acid on Phytotoxicity of Bentazone)

  • 본 연구는 Bentazone을 함유한 용액에 부식산(腐植酸), 또는 훌브산(酸)을 처리하고, 지표식물(指標植物)로 배추를 수경재배(水耕栽培)하여, 이들 유기(有機)리간드가 농약(農藥)의 생물유효성(生物有效性)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 성장률(成長率)과 건중양감소률(乾重量減少率)의 약해지표(藥害指標)를 사용(使用)하여 조사(調査)하였다. 유기(有機)리간드 자체는 배추의 생육(生育)을 촉진(促進)하였으며, 그 효과는 낮은 pH에서 뚜렷하게 나타났다. Bentazone의 처리는 배추에 황화(黃化) 및 고사현상(枯死現狀) 등의 약해(藥害)를 초래하여 건중양(乾重量), 생중양(生重量) 및 함장률(咸長率)의 감소를 초래하였다. 이 약해(藥害)현상은 처리농도가 증가할수록, 그리고 낮은 pH(4.5)에서 뚜렷하였으며, 이때 Bentazone 8${\mu}$M 처리에 의해서도 건중양(乾重量)은 63%나 감소하였다. 무처리구(無處理區)에 비교하여 생중양(生重量)을 50% 감소시킬수 있는 Bentazone의 농도는 약 21${\mu}$M에 해당하였고, 이는 상용농도(常用濃度)보다 높은 것이었다. 부식산(腐植酸) 또는 훌브산(酸)을 Bentazone과 함께 처리하였을때, 이들 유기(有機)리간드는 배추의 수양(收量) 및 성장률(成長率)에 대한 Bentazone의 약해(藥害)를 유의성(有意性)있게 줄여 주었으며, 이 효과는 pH의 영향(影響)을 받지 않았으나 pH와 처리농도(處理濃度)사이에는 상호작용(相互作用)을 보여주었다 이와같은 약해경감효과(藥害輕減效果)는 같은 조건하에서 훌브산(酸)이 부식산(腐植酸)보다 우수했으며, pH 4.5에서 훌브산(酸)은 Bentazone의 약해(藥害)를 46%까지 경감(輕減)시켰다.

바이오세라믹 분말의 엽면살포와 배양액내 처리가 분무경재배 토마토의 생장과 과실품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Bioceramic Powder in the Nutrient Solution and Foliar Spray on the Growth and Fruit Quality of Aeroponically Grown Tomato)

  • 본 연구는 서광 토마토(Lycopersicon esculentum MILL. cv. Seokwang)의 분무경재배시 신소재인 바이오세라믹 분말을 엽면살포(0.2%)와 배양액내에 처리(0.02%)하여 토마토의 생장 및 과실품질 특성을 비교하고자 수행하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 지상부와 지하부의 바이오세라믹 처리시 대조구에 비해 초장은 감소하였으나 뿌리의 생장은 증가하였다. 2. 바이오세라믹 분말의 엽면살포시 과방의 생장이 대조구에 비해서 약 14% 정도 증가하였다. 바이오세라믹 분말의 지상부와 지하부 처리시 총건물중이 증가하였다. 3. 바이오세라믹 처리시에 T/R율은 대조구에 비해 낮았으며, 순동화율(NAR)과 상대생장율(RGR)은 바이오세라믹을 엽면살포했을 경우에 12.13g/d$m^2$/day와 0.05g/g/day로 가장 높았다. 4. 대조구에 비해 바이오세라믹 분말의 근권처리시에는 총누적생과중 및 건과중이 감소하였으나, 엽면살포시에는 증가하였다. 바이오세라믹 파우더의 근권 및 엽면살포시 대조구에 비해 과실의 수량이 감소하지 않고 당도가 높아졌다.

  • 각(各) 재배양식별(栽培樣式別)로 벼와 피의 생육특성(生育特性) 및 각부형태적(各部形態的) 진전(進展)의 변화(變化)를 알아보기 위하여 파종(播種) 및 이앙후(移秧後)(DAS/T) 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20일째에 식물체(植物體)를 굴취(堀取)하여 조사(調査)하였으며, 조사내용별(調査內容別) 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 1) 벼와 피의 발아(發芽) 및 입묘양상(立苗樣相)의 차이(差異) 가. 벼는 발아시(發芽時) 초엽과 유근 모두 같은 배반(胚盤)에서 출현(出現)하는데 반해 피는 그와 반대방향(反對方向)에서 출현(出現)하였다. 나. 재배양식(栽培樣式)간의 벼 입묘양상(立苗樣相)은 건답직파(乾沓直播)의 경우 지상부(地上部) 및 지하부생육(地下部生育)이 균형적(均衡的)이었으나 담수직파(湛水直派)는 지하부(地下部) 위주(爲主)의 생육(生育)이 이루어졌고 표면(表面)벼보다 토중(土中)벼의 입묘(立苗가) 더 좋았다. 2) 벼와 피의 생육특성(生育特性) 차이(差異) 가. 초기생육(初期生育)을 통한 벼와 피간의 초장차이(草長差異)는 담수직파(湛水直播)보다는 건답직파(乾沓直播)에서 더 컸고 같은 직파(直播)에서도 피가 표면(表面)벼나 토중(土中)벼보다 컸으며 이앙재배(移秧栽培)에서는 벼가 피보다 지속적으로 우위성을 유지하였다. 나. 근장(根長)은 모든 재배양식(載培樣式)에서 피가 벼보다 컸으며 벼와 피간의 근장(根長) 차이(差異)는 담수(湛水)보다 건답(乾沓)에서, 이앙(移秧)보다 직파(直播)벼에서 유의적(有意的)으로 컸다. 다. 地上部重(지상부중)은 직파(直播)의 경우 건답(乾沓짧)피가 가장 컸으며 벼와 피간(間)의 지상부(地上部) 생육중(生體重) 차이(差異)는 담수(湛水) 보다 건답(乾沓에)에서, 표면(表面)벼보다는 토중(土中)벼가, 그리고 벼보다 피가 컸으나 이앙조건(移秧條件)에서는 이앙(移秧)벼가 피보다 우위에 있었다. 라. 지상부(地下部) 생체중(生體重)은 직파(直播)의 여러 양식간(樣式間)에 차이(差異)를 보이지 않았으나 파종후(播種後) 10일(日) 이후부터 피가 벼를 능가하는 경향이었고 이앙재배(移秧栽培)에서는 벼가 피보다 지속적으로 우위에 있었다. 마. 중경장(中莖長)은 피만이 형성되었고 건답(乾沓)보다는 담수(湛水)에서, 파종(播種)깊이가 클수록 더 컸다. 바. 엽령(葉齡)은 직파재배(直播載培)에서 피가 벼보다 크고, 벼와 피간의 엽령(葉齡) 차이(差異)는 담수(湛水)보다는 건답(乾沓)에서 약간 더 컸으며 이앙재배(移秧我培)에서는 벼가 피보다 컸다. 사. 엽면적지수(葉面積指數)는 벼와 피간의 차이(差異)가 담수직파(湛水直播)보다는 건답직파(乾沓直播)에서 월등히 컸으며 이앙조건(移秧條件)에서 벼가 유의적으로 컸다. 아. 엽록소함량(葉綠素含量)은 각 재배양식(我培樣式)에서 피가 유의적으로 높았으며 담수직파(湛水直播)보다는 이앙(移秧)벼에서, 이앙(移秧)벼보다는 간답직파(乾畓直播)에서 높았다.
