  • This paper is mainly on the rsearch of the prescriptions of "Sanbeon-bang(刪 繁方)". For the research of prescription, investigated "Sanbeon-bang" from the side of symptoms of a disease, number of drugstuffs, table of contents, drugstuffs and acupuncture and moxibustion. With these investigation, made out a few tables, and with these tables made an attempt to understand the whole prescriptions of "Sanbeon-bang". "Sanbeon-bang" is of rich contents in internal medicine. Among internal medicine, related to Oro-Yukgeuk-Chilsang(五勞-六極-七傷) was most abundant. So we can guess "Sanbeon-bang" was a medical book specialized in exhaustion syndromes. It also deals with the Samcho-syndromes, as investigate from medical comments, has the perfect system of prescription in relative. From the investigation of the combination of drugstuffs, ascertained that, the number of simple prescription composed of one drugstuff was 38, combinational prescription composed of two drugstuffs was 9, minor prescription composed of three to five drugstuffs was 47, midum prescription composed of six to ten drugstuffs was 95, major prescription composed of eleven to twenty drugstuffs was 45, and mixed prescription composed over twenty drugstuffs was 1. Mentionable unique prescriptions in internal use were the forms of keeping in mouth. In external use they were fumigants, suppositories, powdered medicines, spraying the granular medication into the nasal cavity and eyedrops. And were abundant in soft extract(ointment) and plaster. In addition, there were the recordings of 18 types of cellulitis, types of incurable cellulitis and curing an illness by a charm. By the way, when comparing "Sanbeon-bang" with "Cheongeum-bang", all of which was quoted a lot in "Oedaebiyo-bang", "Cheongeum-bang" rather took medical comments of "Sanbeon-bang" than prescription. Although there were some prescriptons in "Sanbeon-bang" at the same category, "Cheongeum-bang" took another prescriptions which are more complexed than those of "Sanbeon-bang". In the same way, when comparing "Cheongeum-bang" with "Sonjinin-Cheongeum-bang(孫眞人千金方)", which didn't go through the correction of GyojeongUiseoguk of Bug-Song goverment, "Cheongeum-bang" often didn't take the prescriptions of "Sonjinin-Cheongeum-bang". Hence we can guess, "Cheongeumyo-bang" may have added a lot of prescriptions when undergoing the correction of of GyojeongUiseoguk. The total number of species of drugstuffs in "Sanbeon-bang" from the investigation was 284. The plant drugs were 208 species, the animal were 31 species, the minerals were 19 species and the other were 26 species. The prescriptions related to acupuncture and moxibustion in "Sanbeon-bang" were only moxibustional prescriptions. Which appeared one time per exhaustion and steaming of bone syndrome, Oro-Yukgeuk-Chilsang and Samcho syndrome. Appeared six times in muscle syndromes. But I cannot imagine the original form of acupuncture and moxibustion in "Sanbeon-bang" for deficiency of data.

  • To survey the status of quality control of major ingredients of 'Ssanghwatang (Oriental medicine used for fatigue)', we analyzed 1,024 samples (9 kinds) of medical herbs to determine amounts of ashes, acid-insoluble ashes, loss on drying that are major elements to ensure basic quality of herbal drugstuffs. After ash analysis, Paeoniae Radix (from China) failed to meet the herbal standard criterion. After yielding Z-score(indicating the probability of exceeding its criterion) Zizyphi Fructus, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Paeoniae Radix, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata became objects of intense quality control (=IQC). Analysis on loss on drying shows Cinnamomi Cortex was unsuitable and was put under the IQC. In case of respective heavy metals, Angelicae Gigantis Radix, Cnidii Rhizoma, Cinnamomi Cortex exceeded the maximum permissible range for Cd. The 3 kinds of sub-standards were put to the IQC. Statistic figures showed a significant correlation (t-test, p<0.01) between country-of-origin and sub-quality rates. Compared to domestic one, imported medicinal herbs were less suitable in regard of acid-insoluble ash, loss on drying and Pb/Hg content. Meanwhile, amounts of Acid-insoluble ash showed positive relation with amounts of Pb (r=0.202) and As (r=0.243) among heavy metals leading to an inference that herbs of which root/rhizome is used for medical purposes attribute its high heavy metal content to the fine earth/sand being stuck to its root stalk.

  • Hyang-Yack-Ku-Keup-Bang(鄕藥救急方) is our own, medical work written about the middle of the time of Korea Dynasty. I restored and researched this book because it needed to be illuminated about its medico-historic value and then I came to some conclusions as follows. 1. Hyang-Yack-Ku-Keup-Bang was published in Dae-jang-do-kam(大藏都監) of Kanghaw island(江華島) about the middle of Korea Dynasty. Choi Ja-ha(崔自河) republished it on original publication ground in Euiheung(義興) of Kyungsang-Province(慶尙道) in July, Taejong's(太宗) 17th year of Chosen Dynasty (A.D.1417) and this book was published again in Chungcheng Province(忠淸道) in Sejong's(世宗) 9th year(A.D.1427). The book published in Taejong's days was in the possession of books department of Kung-nae-cheng(宮內廳) in Japan and was the oldest medical book of existing ones. 2. Bang-Jung-Hyang-Yack-Mock-Cho-Bu(方中鄕藥目草部) of this book was originally intended to be adjusted in each division with the title of Bang-Jung-Hyang-Yack-Mock(方中鄕藥目). But Herb part(草部) only followed editing progress of Jeung-Lew-Bon-Cho(證類本草), the rest is not divided into each part and is together arranged at the below of Herb part with the title of Bang-Jung-Hyang-Yack-Mock-Cho-Bu. The Korean inscriptions on some drugstuffs in this book are different between Native Name(鄕名) of three volumes of provisions and general-spoken(俗云) of Bang-Jung-Hyang-Yack-Mock-Cho-Bu. In this, it is estimated that the publishing time and editor of tile volume of provisions and Bang-Jung-Hyang-Yack-Mock-Cho-Bu are different. I think Choi Ja-ha compiled this behind three volumes of provisions when he published. 3. This book picked some prescriptions which consisted of obtainable drugs with ease in Korea in the books of Chell-Keum-Yo-Bang(千金要方), Oi-Dae-Bi-Yo(外臺秘要), Tae-Peong-Sung-Hye-Bang(太平聖惠方), Ju-Hu-Bang(?後方), Kyung-Hum-Yang- Bang(經驗良方) Bo-Je-Bon-Sa-Bang(普濟本事方) Bi-Ye-Baik-Yo-Bang(備預百要方) and so on and got together our own prescriptions. On the whole Bi-Ye-Baik-Yo-Bang was a chief referrence book, On this, other books referred to and corrected. 4. In provisions quoted from Hyang-Yack-Jip-Sung-Bang(鄕藥集成方), there are seven provisions; leg-paralysis part, coughing part, headache part, obstetrics part, etc. don't show in this book. This is why Choi Ja-ha published only certain texts on Dae-jang-do-kam edition his own posession. So we can think the existing edition has a little misses compared with original edition. 5. This book recorded only names of drugstuffs in animal drug department like fowls, crab, goldbug, earthworm, etc. and didn't tell us ways of taking those. This is effect of Buddhist culture on medicine. This is efforts to practice 'Don't murder';one of Five Prohibition of Buddhism. 6. Beacause this book was published at the time, when our originative medicine would be set forth. This followed the Chinese ways in Theory, Treatment, Prescription and used 'Hyang Yack' in Medication out of theory of Korean medicine, which was a transitional form. So this is all important material which tell us aspects of development of 'Hyang Yack' the middle of Korea Dynasty.and this is also the beginning of originative, medical works like Dong-Eui-Bo-Kam(東醫寶鑑), Dong-Eui-Su-Bo-Won(東醫壽世保元). 7. There are few contents based on 'Byen-Jeung-Lon-Chi(辨證論治)'in this book. So we can see this book is not for doctors who study medical thoughts but for general public who suffer from diseases resulted from war. Because this book was written for a first-aid treatmeant, this is an index of medical service for the people those days. And this is also an useful datum for first-aid medicine or military medicine in these modern days. 8. Nowadays, parts of learned world of Korean medicine disregard essential theories and want to explain Korean medicine only by the theories or the methods of Western medicine. Moreover they don't adopt Chinese and Japanese theorys & thoughts about Oriental medicine in our own style and just view in there level. What was worse, there is a growing tendency for them to indulge in a trimming policy of scholarship and to take others' ideas. I think these trends to ignore our own medical thoughts involving growth of 'Hyang Yack' in the middle of Korea Dynasty, Dong-Eui-Bo-Kam and Dong-Eui-Su-Se-Bo-Won. So we, as researchers of Korean medicine, must get out of this tendency, and take over brilliant tradition and try to develop originative Korean medicine.

  • The origin and description of the Herba Plantaginis was contemporarily analyzed (family names, scientific names, target regions, preparation, etc.) by comparison to enormous literature in addition to the external features written in the existing books on traditional Korean medicine. Also, galenical description were analyzed in connection with external morphology, internal morphology, microscopy and five senses. The official documents and ancient documents of other countries were reviewed. The technical books on herbage, published in the country and other countries, were compared with each other. Also, on-the-spot surveys were made to learn specialists' know-how. The description of the collected drugstuffs were analyzed in connection with external morphology (size, color, etc.), internal morphology and microscopy. The results of this study can be applied to the publicity and education of galenical test agencies; the effective management of foods and drugs; the improvement of public medical service; the publicity of galenical safety.

  • When we inject drugstuffs to a patient for a long time, it is important to control proper injection amount and flow rate. Since inproper injection amount and a flow rate would cause bad a recovery a patient, the relience of sensors which detect injection amount is an important factor for whole injection systems' performance. In this research, we've compared the suitability of three sensors for injection pump monitoring system. The three types of sensors, piezo film sensor, photo transistor made up with three transmitting photodiodes and receving photodiode, and photo array, were selected for comparing. Using suggested data processing technique and photo amy sensors, we could minimize the effect of interference, disturbance, illumanation change, and sensitivity change caused by sensor's position. According to the experiments, the photo amy showed the higher reliance than any other the three types of sensors. The developed systems could be the foundation of beginning home production of infusion pump system and available for the base model of whole monitoring and control systems.

  • The purpose of this studies was to examine the difference of the original text in Dongeuibogam and the text of reference books in Dongeuibogam. So, we selected the part of the Ong-Juh(carbuncle) Gathering of Dongeuibogam, made a comparative study of the original text and the text af reference books cited in Dongeuibogam. The results are as follows; The Chapters Name cited from Somun(素問) were 'Somun-sengitongchungron'(素問·生氣通天論), 'Somun-Kiguelron'(素問·氣厥論), 'Somun-kihulron'(素問·氣穴論) 'Somun-megyojungmiron'(素問·脈要精微論), 'Somun-yungyangbulron(素問·陰陽別論), 'Somun-yungyangung sangderon'(素問·陰陽應象大論), etc. The Chapters Name cited Youngchu(靈樞) were 'Youngchu-ong-juh(靈樞·癰疽),' Youngchu-okphan'(靈樞·玉版), 'Youngchu-mekdo'(靈樞·脈度), etc. There were seven errors in the name of reference books. The original text of reference books was not cited as it were and some paragraph and characters were omitted as far as the meaning was not changed or added to make the meaning clearer We though it was supposed that 'yorjatu(女子妬)' was changed to 'yorjagu' in 'Jungongjuhsajibubun(定癰疽死之部分) , 'megraechaesab'(脈來滯澁) was changed to 'megraedaesab' in 'ongjuhmeg'(癰疽脈). The drugstuffs consisted of the prescription were mainly arranged in quantity order.

  • The epistaxis is commonplace and temporary disease in the field of ENT. In most cases, it is a slight illness, but sometimes, it leads to death because of copious bleeding. The first treatment of epistaxis is stoping hemorrhage, but the real state of treatment in oriental medical is not thoroughgoing enough. So we referred to oriental medical journals and sundry records about etiology and remedy of epistaxis, we got this results. 1. The etiology of epistaxis was mostly bleeding due to heat in the blood by dysfunction of Jang and Bu Gi, there were affection wind-cold by exopathogen, spleen heat to liver, excessive fire of lung meridian, stagnated fire-heat of upper Cho, excessive drinking, bruise and so on. 2. The treatment was used much to remove heat from the blood and activating blood, in case of getting no better, it's used to enriching the blood or clear Gi. 3. The internal remedy of epistaxis was the most used 20times SeogakJihwangtang(犀角地黃湯) to remove heat from the blood and activating blood, and used Jihwangtang(地黃湯), Samhwangbohyultang(三黃補血湯), Jiyuksan(止육散), hueksinsan(黑神散), etc. The drugstuffs were the most used 51times Radix Rehmanniae Preparata((生地黃) to clear heat and remove heat from the blood, produce the body fluids, yin, and used Radix Paeoniae Alba(芍樂) and Radix Glycyrrhizae(甘草), Radix Angelicae Gignatis(當歸), Radix Scutellariae(黃岑), Rhizoma Coptidis(黃連) and Fructus Gardeniae(梔子), etc. 4. The external medical treatment of epistaxis was the most used 16times spraying the granular medication into the cavity and attaching Allii Bulbus(大蒜) to center of the sole or binding the middle finger, etc.
