The effects of bile salts (BS) on the stability of dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) liposomes were investigated, observing apparent absorbance of vacant liposomes and calcein release from entrapped liposomes. Unilamellar liposomes were prepared by using a small quantity of palmitoly-immunoglobulin G(IgG) ($2.5{\times}10^{-4}$ mo1/lipid mol) to stabilize the bilayer phase of the unsaturated DOPE which by itself does not form stable liposomes. The destabilization of PE immunoliposomes by papain, clearly demonstrates that the IgG is essential for stabilization of PE bilayer. Approximately 4% of the entrapped calcein was released from the PE liposomes after 1 hr from liposome formation. Calcein release and absorbance of liposomes depended on the BS/lipid ratio because of the solubilization of lipid molecule in bilayer and the formation of mixed micelles. At very low BS concentrations, the incorporation of BS induced BS/lipid aggregates in the outer vesicles monolayer, while high BS concentrations, mixed micelles were formed. Chelate and its conjugates as $3{\alpha},\;7{\alpha},\;12{\alpha}-trihydroxy$ BS induce the concentration of the $3{\alpha}$, $12{\alpha}-dihydroxy$ BS at half-maximal solubilization of immunoliposomes to approximately 2.5-, or 5-fold. Conjugation of BS with glycine or taurine slightly enhanced their capacities to perturb membranes.
Regenerated cellulose fibers were prepared from three pulps containing different degree of polymerization(DP) and $\alpha$-cellulose contents by dry-jet wet spinning technique with cellulose dope in N-methylmorpholin N-oxide (NMMO). The effect of antioxidant, n-propyl gallate (PG) on the properties of different regenerated celluloses was studied using X-ray diffraction, copper number calculation, and viscometry. The degradaqtion of regenerated cellulose from pulp containing higher DP and lower $\alpha$-cellulose content was occurred more seriously. The tensile strength and initial modulus of regenerated cellulose fiber obtained from NMMO dope with PG were higher than those of fiber obtained from NMMO dope without PG. All fibers showed the round shape cross section and typical cellulose II crystalline structure.

Wet-spun regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) fibers have been extensively studied owing to their 1) useful properties as biomaterials, including good blood compatibility and cyto-compatibility; 2) the various methods available to control the structural characteristics and morphology of the fiber, and 3) the possibility of fabricating blended fibers and new material-embedded fibers. In this study, silk nanofibrils prepared using a new method were embedded in RSF to fabricate wet-spun silk nanofibril/RSF composite fibers. Up to 2% addition of silk nanofibril, the silk nanofibril/RSF dope solution showed slight shear thinning, and the G' and G" of the dope solution were similar. However, above 3% silk nanofibril content, the viscosity of the dope solution significantly increased. In addition, shear thinning was remarkably evident, and the G' of the dope solution was much higher than the G", indicating a very elastic state. As the silk nanofibril content was increased, the wet-spun silk nanofibril/RSF composite fiber became uneven, with a rough surface, and more beaded fibers were produced. Scanning electron microscopy observations revealed that the beaded fibers were attributed to the inhomogeneous dispersion and presence of agglomerates of the silk nanofibrils. As the silk nanofibril content and RSF concentration increased, the maximum draw ratio decreased, indicating the deterioration of the wet spinnability and post-drawing performance of silk nanofibril/RSF.

Various strategies have been attempted to design efficient protocols for ovarian cancer gene therapy but there has been little progress in their clinical application. In this study, we formulated and evaluated a new cationic liposome composed of dioleoyltrimethylaminopropane (DOTAP), 1.2-dioleoyl-3-phosphophatidylethanolamine (DOPE). and cholesterol (Chol) (DDC) for plasmid DNA transfer into ovarian cancer cells. The DOC liposome was prepared by mixing DOTAP. DOPE. and Chol using extrusion method. (omitted)

To improve stability and transfection efficiency, a novel combination of cationic emulsion and galactosylated chitosan was developed for targeted gene delivery. Six formulations of cationic liposome and our novel emulsion were prepared for comparison of stability and transfection efficiency. Cationic liposomes composed of 3[N-(N.N dimethylaminoethylene) carbamoyl] cholesterol (DC-Chol) and dioleyl phophatidyl ethanolamine (DOPE) were prepared by extrusion method and cationic emulsions composed of DC-Chol. DOPE. castor oil, and Tween 80 were prepared by sonication method. (omitted)
