  • In this study, for using effectively domestic (temperate) small and medium diameter logs as a wooden floorboard, cross-laminated wood panels were manufactured using domestic larch and tulip woods as a base material for teak and merbau wood flooring, and static bending strength performances were measured to investigate the applicability as the base materials of wooden flooring in place of plywood. Static bending MOE was much influenced by the strength performances of the top layer lamina than that of the laminae for base materials. Bending MOR showed the higher values in tulip wood that was hardwoods than in larch wood that was softwoods regardless of the strength performances of the top layer laminae, and it was found that the values were much influenced by the strength performances of the base materials used in the core and bottom layers. However these values were 1.4-2.5 times higher values than the bending strength of the wooden floorboards specified in KS, it was found that it can be sufficiently applied to the base materials of wooden floorboards in place of plywood.

  • The plane trees(Platanus occidentalis L.) have been grown in Korea very widely as ornamental garden or street trees but they have not been used as manufacturing materials The proportion of imported wood has been now over 85% of raw materials needed in the wood industry, and therefore, many of studies on the substitution of domestic wood for imported wood and on the increasing the utilization rate of domestic species have been attempted and considered as very important projects to solve. From a this point of view, this study was carried out to investigate solid wood bending properties of plane trees and then to develop their end-uses, and the size of specimens tested was $15\times15\times350mm$ for steaming treatment and they were dried to $15\pm1%$ before bending. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The optimum conditions for solid wood bending processing of Platanus occidentalis are showed in Table 7. 2. The minimum solid-bending radii of Platanus occidentalis were 40mm in steaming treatment. 3. The effect of knots, diagonal grain and decay on the degradation of bending processing properties were very severe. 4. The bending stress was setted successfully through $80^{\circ}C$-15hrs drying after bending and the spring back for 24hr-exposing time was only about 1%.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate potential of domestic long-term wood supply by using fuzzy linear programming (FLP). In order to construct a numerical formula model, maximization of total timber production was used for the objective function. Size limit of harvesting and sustained yield were used as the constraints. The results of comparison between LP and FLP were shown that LP is more suitable than FLP in terms of the amount of timber production and final forest stock. However, as long-term sustained yield was limitedly achieved by using LP, FLP was more desirable for prediction of potential wood supply. According to the results of this study, the potential of annual domestic wood supply was estimated about 10.5 million cubic meters. Gyeong buk, Jeon nam, Gangwon and Gyeong nam province were highly ranked in order of provincial potential of wood supply.

  • Nowadays, market demand of structural Glulam is growing and diversifying. The durability of Glulam should be significantly considered when they are intended to apply for out-door use such as timber bridge and pergola. This study was aimed to develop the manufacturing process of preservative treated structural Glulam using domestic softwood species. 10 m long structural Glulam were manufactured from domestic pitch pine logs with CuAz-3 preservative treatment. At each manufacturing process, the production yield was evaluated. Finally, bending tests were performed to verify the structural performance of manufactured Glulam. From the results, it was shown that the preservative treatment process hardly influenced on the production yield. But domestic pitch pine was proved to not be suitable for making the preservative treated Glulam due to the large difference of preservative permeability between sapwood and heartwood.

  • Australia has significant wood resources in its native forest, but the resource available for harvest becomes lesser due to the conversion of native forest to conservation reserves. The natural occurrences of bushfires, droughts, and cyclones are highly destructive, making the situation worse. The shortage of wood resources is having a significant negative impact on Australia because wood is so scarce that they cannot meet domestic demands, especially durable wood. Australia cleared approximately 100 million hectares of its land to establish forest plantations, and two million trees were planted. However, most of these plantations are for pulpwood production; however, their application for high-value products is limited due to their undesirable properties. Wood modification is a process of improving unfavorable wood properties to be utilized for a wide range of applications. Australia has not adopted any of these modification processes; it still depends on the less toxic wood preservative to treat wood. This study focuses on the recent advancement in industrial wood modification worldwide and how it may be used to modify Eucalyptus wood for high-value applications. The opportunities and suggestions for Eucalyptus wood modification in Australia will be discussed. Before the study concludes, the future of commercial wood modification for Eucalyptus plantation in Australia will also be presented.

  • This study aimed to examine the theoretical consideration and concept of hybrid that could be applicable to wood product design, to analyze design trend according to the morphological transformation by means of combination of hybrid material and function, to understand the correlation between type of wood product and materials and to apply it to the domestic and overseas hybrid concept of wood product design study. A study of assembling output by empirical experiment to embed natural resources into acrylic resin in order to develop wood products was carried out. And an wood product was suggested that satisfied lighting and hanger function through a new wood product design development combined with hanger function and lighting function. Through such process, a new design paradigm was suggested to cope with the periodic trend and to induce mass production of designed product. Thus, this study set a new guideline for activating wood product design and attempted to meet the social demand of encouraging new value creation.

  • This study was designed to estimate effect of wood vinegar on meat quality in old Layer which was low production and low economic value. The old layer chickens were used to resource for income increase of layer farm and protein supply. Two hundred forty Isa Brown chickens were assigned with control(Broiler feed), Treatment 1 (Broiler feed with addition of domestic wood vinegar $0.8\%$) and Treatment 2(Broiler feed with addition of foreign wood vinegar $0.4\%$). Feed intake of control group was lower 3g than other treatments. This is the reason of result that what organic acid in wood vinegar of treatment groups affect to feed digestibility, The different of chicken production was depended on ingredient and included value of wood vinegar in domestic and foreign. Foreign wood vinegar have organic acids which that functionally act sexual Pheromone so that promote endocrine matter. This is reason that old Layer chicken increase to egg production rate. Treatment 2 group effect to thigh meat rather than breast meat and improve to value of crude fat and meat color. The Meat quality and sensory test of thigh meat of foreign wood vinegar was better appraise rather than that of domestic wood vinegar. Because foreign wood vinegar make to fine of meat tissue and to decline cooking loss and also to increase juiciness and tenderness on sensory test.

  • We intended to apprehend the ignitability of the wood, using the ISO test for the ignitability accessment. So we first conducted the ISO test on eight kings of the wood as sample, which came from domestic for-est, and discovered the tendency of the ignitability for the wood in the condition of external factors(its density and the rate of water content, humidity). Finally it was found that the ignition time of the wood was effected by its density and, the rate of water content, the humidity in the atmosphere.

  • We conducted a thermal compression of domestic Korean pinewood for a use in flooring. For the evaluation of flooring material, we measured dimensional stability and surface hardness of thermally compressed wood. It is possible to make high-specific gravity woods with a range of 0.82-0.92 after the thermal compression with 50% compression set. The surface hardness increased with an increase in the pressing temperature. The highest value of surface hardness was $23.6N/mm^2$, which was obtained from the thermal compressed wood with pressing temperature of $160^{\circ}C$ and 30 minutes of pressing time. However, the surface hardness of woods treated at high temperature of $180^{\circ}C$ or greater decreased. The recovery of thickness decreased with increasing the pressing temperature. For dimensional stability, compression temperature was more dominant than compression time.

  • Existent wood wool cement boards are low-quality cement boards made out of wood chip wastes. Recently, however, they are produced by making wood chips into fibrous forms to have good looks and excellent performances in sound absorption and thermal insulation. Though they have been broadly used in the advanced countries, they were rather expensive products with limited use in Korea having no domestic manufacturers of them. Since 2005, however, it has been possible for the boards to be used in various fields due to their lowered prices and stable supplies by the arrival of domestic manufacturers. For the purpose of encouraging broad use of the boards, this research aims to explore their practical applications by way of assessing the flame retardant and fire resistant performances when they are applied to dry-wall system.
