  • This paper deals with noninformative priors for such as Jeffres' prior, reference prior and probability matching prior for scale parameter of exponential distribution when the data are collected in multiple step stress accelerated life tests. We find the noninformative priors for this model and show that the reference prior satisfies first order matching criterion. Using artificial data, we perform Bayesian analysis for proposed priors.

  • Many authors have utilized an exponential distribution because of its wide applicability in reliability engineering and statistical inferences (see Bain & Engelhart(1987) and Saunders & Mann(1985)). Here we are considering the parametric estimation in an exponential distribution when its scale and location parametes are linear functions of a known exposure level t, which often occurs in the engineering and physical phenomena.

  • When modeling a complex system we use an event tree to analyze propagation of failure. An event tree cannot represent the statistical interrelationships among parameters, but it can be represented as a statistically identical influence diagram so that parameter updating can be easily performed. After updating parameters we can calculate posterior distribution of the failure rate for each path. But exact distribution requires considerably complex numerical integration. We propose an approximation method to calculate the posterior and derive the predictive distribution of the time to next failure. Finally we introduce the system which implements our methodology.

  • Classification of subjects with unknown distribution in small sample size setup may involve order-restricted constraints in multivariate parameter setups. Those problems makes optimality of conventional likelihood ratio based statistical inferences not feasible. Fortunately, Roy (1953) introduced union-intersection principle(UIP) which provides an alternative avenue. Redescending M-estimator along with that principle yields a considerably appropriate robust testing procedure. Furthermore, conditionally distribution-free test based upon exact permutation theory is used to generate p-values, even in small sample. Applications of this method are illustrated in simulated data and read data example (Lobenhofer et al., 2002)

  • This paper describes switching overvoltage generated during transient state in 22.9kV combined distribution systems. For analysis, distribution overhead line, underground cable and surge arrester are modeled using EMTP/ATPDraw. Simulation results show switching overvoltage according to various kind of parameter and systems such as closing angle and cable length.

  • In this paper, the maximum likelihood estimators and confidence intervals for parameters of Weibull distribution are derived under three level constant stress accelerated life tests and the assumption that a log quadratic relationship exits between stress and the scale parameter ${\theta}$. The compound linear plan proposed by Kim (2006) is used to allocate the test units at each stress level, which performed nearly as good as the optimum quadratic plan and had the advantage of simplicity. Some simulation studies are given.

  • In this paper, to estimate the time-varying parameters of speech signal, we use the robust sequential estimator based on t-distribution and, for time-varying signal, introduce the forgetting factor. By using the RSE based on t-distribution with small degree of freedom, we can alleviate efficiently the effects of outliers to obtain the better performance of parameter estimation. Moreover, by the forgetting factor, the proposed algorithm can estimate the accurate parameters under the rapid variation of speech signal.

  • In this paper, we derive the maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) and some approximate maximum likelihood estimators(AMLEs) of the scale parameter in an exponentiated half logistic distribution based on progressively Type-II censored samples. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error(MSE) through a Monte Carlo simulation for various censoring schemes. We also obtain the AMLEs of the reliability function.

  • When the available sample is multiply Type-II censored, the maximum likelihood estimators of the location and the scale parameters of two- parameter exponential distribution do not admit explicitly. In this case, we propose some estimators which are linear functions of the order statistics and also propose some estimators by approximating the likelihood equations appropriately. We compare the proposed estimators by the mean squared errors.
