In this paper, we present two successful results from active controls of flows over a circular cylinder and a sphere for drag reduction. The Reynolds number range considered for the flow over a circular cylinder is 40-3900 based on the free-stream velocity and cylinder diameter, whereas for the flow over a sphere it is $10^{5}$ based on the free-stream velocity and sphere diameter. The successful active control methods are a distributed (spatially periodic) forcing and a high-frequency (time periodic) forcing. With these control methods, the mean drag and lift fluctuations decrease and vortical structures are significantly modified. For example, the time-periodic forcing at a high frequency (larger than 20 times the vortex shedding frequency) produces $50{\%}$ drag reduction for the flow over a sphere at $Re=10^{5}$. The distributed forcing applied to the flow over a circular cylinder results in a significant drag reduction at all the Reynolds numbers investigated.
In analysis of piping vibration of petrochemical plant, the forcing functions mainly depend upon the equipment working mechanism and vibration resources in the piping systems. In general, harmonic function is used for the system with rotary equipments. Mechanical driving frequencies, wave functions, and response spectrum are used for reciprocating compressors, surge vibration of long transfer piping, and seismic/wind vibration, respectively. In this study, for the spray injection case inside the pipe, forcing function was modeled, in which two different fluids are distributed uniformly. To confirm the results, the scheme used for the forcing function was applied for real piping system. The vibration mode of the real system was consistent with the 4th mode obtained by simulation using the forcing function formulated in this study.

To confirm the results, the scheme was applied for a real piping system. The vibration mode of the real system was consistent with the 4th mode (26.725 Hz) obtained by simulation using the forcing function presented in this study.
Distributed massive MIMO systems, which have high bandwidth efficiency and can accommodate a tremendous amount of traffic using algorithms such as zero-forcing beam forming (ZFBF), may be deployed in large public venues with the antennas mounted under-floor. In this case the channel gain matrix H can be modeled as a multi-banded matrix, in which off-diagonal entries decay both exponentially due to heavy human penetration loss and polynomially due to free space propagation loss. To enable practical implementation of such systems, we present a multi-banded matrix inversion algorithm that substantially reduces the complexity of ZFBF by keeping the most significant entries in H and the precoding matrix W. We introduce a parameter p to control the sparsity of H and W and thus achieve the tradeoff between the computational complexity and the system throughput. The proposed algorithm includes dense and sparse precoding versions, providing quadratic and linear complexity, respectively, relative to the number of antennas. We present analysis and numerical evaluations to show that the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) increases linearly with p in dense precoding. In sparse precoding, we demonstrate the necessity of using directional antennas by both analysis and simulations. When the directional antenna gain increases, the resulting SIR increment in sparse precoding increases linearly with p, while the SIR of dense precoding is much less sensitive to changes in p.
In the present paper, a direct forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) level set method is proposed to simulate the FSI (fluid-solid interaction) in two-phase flow. The main idea is to combine the direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method with the level set method in the Cartesian coordinates. The DF/FD method is a non-Lagrange-multiplier version of a distributed Lagrange multiplier/fictitious domain (DLM/FD) method. This method does not sacrifice the accuracy and robustness by employing a discrete ${\delta}$ (Dirac delta) function to transfer quantities between the Eulerian nodes and Lagrangian points explicitly as the immersed boundary method. The advantages of this approach are the simple concept, easy implementation, and utilization of the original governing equation without modification. Simulations of various water-entry problems have been conducted to validate the capability and accuracy of the present method in solving the FSI in two-phase flow. Consequently, the present results are found to be in good agreement with those of previous studies.
In this paper a data replicator scheme with a distributed join architecture is suggested with its cost functions and the performance results. The contribution of this scheme is not only minimizing the number of base relation locks in distributed database tables but also reducing the remote transmission amount remarkably, which will be able to embellish the distributed databse system practical. The differential files that are derived from the active log of the DBMS are mainly forcing the scheme to reduce the number of base relation locks. The amount of transportation between relevant sites could be curtailed by the tuple reduction procedures. Then we prescribe an algorithm of data replicator with its cost function and show the performance results compared with the semi-join scheme in their distributed environments.
The possibility of skin friction reduction in laminar channel flow is investigated when the flow is subjected to stationary distributed surface blowing and suction. Blowing and suction provided at the channel walls is steady in time but varies as a sine function along the streamwise direction. The skin friction changes depending on the wavelength and amplitude of the actuation. Especially, the skin friction is reduced below that of fully developed laminar flow as the wavelength decreases and amplitude increases. The optimal wavelength of producing minimum skin friction is $\pi/2{\delta}$, where $\delta$ is the channel half-height It is observed that the distributed blowing and suction induces strong negative Reynolds shear stress in the near-wall region at the end of the suction part.
The distributed resistance model has been recently implemented into the MATRA-LMR code in order to improve its prediction capability over the wire-wrap model for a flow blockage analysis in the LMR. The code capability has been investigated using experimental data observed in the FFM (Fuel Failure Mock-up)-2A and 5B for two typical flow conditions in a blocked channel. The predicted results by the MATRA-LMR with a distributed resistance model agreed well with the experimental data for wire-wrapped subchannels. However, it is suggested that the parameter n in the distributed resistance model needs to be calibrated accurately for a reasonable prediction of the temperature field under a low flow condition. Finally, the analyses of a blockage for the assembly of the KALIMER design are performed. Satisfactory results by the MATRA-LMR code were obtained through and rerified a comparison with results of the SABRE code.
