  • With the increasing deployment of distributed generators in the distribution system, a very large search space is required when dynamic programming (DP) is applied for the optimized dispatch schedules of voltage and reactive power controllers such as on-load tap changers, distributed generators, and shunt capacitors. This study proposes a new optimal voltage and reactive power scheduling method based on dynamic programming with a heuristic searching space reduction approach to reduce the computational burden. This algorithm is designed to determine optimum dispatch schedules based on power system day-ahead scheduling, with new control objectives that consider the reduction of active power losses and maintain the receiving power factor. In this work, to reduce the computational burden, an advanced voltage sensitivity index (AVSI) is adopted to reduce the number of load-flow calculations by estimating bus voltages. Moreover, the accumulated switching operation number up to the current stage is applied prior to the load-flow calculation module. The computational burden can be greatly reduced by using dynamic programming. Case studies were conducted using the IEEE 30-bus test systems and the simulation results indicate that the proposed method is more effective in terms of saving electric charges and improving the voltage profile than loss minimization.

  • Morphology of membrane affects its performance [1]. For a constant amount of fixed charges, the distribution of these charges is also significant to its performance (2). In some ionomer membranes such as Nafion, the membrane fixed charge is not randomly distributed, but occurs in clusters. Thus, the membrane solution is phase-separated, with the ion clusters, acting as inverted micelles in a polymer solvent.(omitted)

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNT) / polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) piezoelectric composite films for nanogenerator devices were fabricated by spray coating method. When the CNT/PVDF mixture solution passes through the spray nozzle with small diameter by the compressed nitrogen gas, electric charges are generated in the liquid by a triboelectric effect. Then randomly distributed ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film could be re-oriented by the electric field resulting from the accumulated electrical charges, and might be resulted in extremely one-directionally aligned ${\beta}$ phase PVDF film without additional electric field for poling. X-ray diffraction patterns were used to investigate crystal structure of the CNT/PVDF composite films. It was confirmed that they revealed extremely large portion of the ${\beta}$ phase PVDF crystalline in the film. Therefore we could obtain the poled CNT/PVDF piezoelectric composite films by the spray coating method without additional poling process.

  • A mathematical model for a dynamic capacitate facility location problem is formulated by a mixed integer problem. The objective of the model is to minimize total discounted costs that include fixed charges and distributed costs. The Cross Decomposition method of Van Roy is extended and applied to solve the dynamic capacitated facility location problem. The method unifies Benders Decomposition and Lagrangean relaxation into a single framework. It successively solves a transportation problem and a dynamic uncapacitated facility location problem as two subproblems. Computational results are compared with those of general mixed integer programming.

  • Static electricity is an imbalance of electric charges within or on the surface of a material. All packed items that are particularly sensitive to static discharge must be protected by antistatic treatment. Otherwise, static electricity generated by an electrical insulator may cause serious damages to some sensitive electronics. In order to remove or prevent a buildup of static electricity, packed items must be treated with the application of an antistatic agent, which helps any excess charge to be evenly distributed. Functional pulp tray used for packing of electronic goods was developed with application of an antistatic agent. As the concentration of the antistatic agent increased, charging voltage and surface resistance of molded pulps decreased. The increase of humidity in surrounding atmosphere around molded pulps led to the decrease of accumulation of static charges. In conclusion, the surface treatment of the antistatic agent not only reduced or eliminated buildup of static electricity in the surface, but also prevented generation of tiny dirts from molded tray.

  • This study proposes that chlorine residue after metal etch as the source of metal corrosion, and charges should be removed by optimizing etch, PR strip and cleaning condition. Charges distributed along the metal line acts as a source of tungsten (W) plug corrosion when associated with following cleaning solution. In cleaning process after metal etch and PR strip, chemical selection is significantly important in terms of metal corrosion. Optimal corrosion preventive PH, no metal attack (choice of optimal inhibitants), high by product removal efficiency and optimal de ionized water treatment condition is critical to the metal corrosion prevention.

Charge accumulation and resulting electric field generation mechanism by spray coating method were shown in Fig. 1. The capacitance of the CNT/PVDF films increased by adding CNTs into the PVDF matrix, and finally saturated. However, the I-V curves didn't show any saturation effect in the CNT concentration range of 0~4 wt%. Therefore we can control the performance of the devices fabricated from the CNT/PVDF composite film by adjusting the current level resulted from the CNT concentration with the uniform capacitance value.

  • Space charge distributions and behaviors of polystyrene/polyaniline conducting blends were investigated using a pulsed electroacoustic(PEA) method. It was found that positive charges were accumulated near the cathode with increasing polyaniline content in polystyrene/polyaniline when electric field was applied. Breakdown phenomena was investigated by breakdown test and it was observed that dielectric strength was diminished as polyaniline content was increased. By Scanning Electron Microscopy, corss-sectional views of polystyrene/polyaniline conducting blends were observed that the particles of polyaniline were well distributed in polystyrene.

  • Due to certain geological characteristics (high thickness, rocky properties), some underground coal mines require the use of explosives. This paper explores the effects of fragmentation of different decks detonated simultaneously in a single borehole with the use of numerical analysis. ANSYS/LS-DYNA code was used for the implementation of the models. The models include an erosion criterion to simulate the cracks generated by the explosion. As expected, the near-borehole area was damaged by compression stresses, while far zones and the free surface of the boundary were subjected to tensile damage. With the increase of the number of decks in the borehole, different changes in the fracture pattern were observed, and the superposition effects of the stress wave became evident, affecting the fragmentation results. The superposition effect is more evident in close distances to the borehole, and its effect attenuates when the distance to the borehole increase.

  • Electro-coagulation experiments were conducted with aluminum (Al) or iron (Fe) electrode in order to determine the optimal electrode material and operation conditions for algae removal. Al electrode showed higher removal rate of algae than Fe electrode because Al flocs have positive surface charges which electrostatically attract algae species having negative surface charges. Removal rate of algae and total phosphorous (T-P) was increased as current density and electrode area increases. It was also found that initial pH with neutral range was optimum for T-P removal by electro-coagulation. Bench-scale continuous flow experiments consisted of electro-coagulation reactor, agitation tank and settling tank were conducted. In electro-coagulation reactor, a large fraction of Al flocs were distributed to scum layer, due to the gas bubbles generated by electrolysis reaction. In agitation tank, most of Al flocs were settled and the optimal mixing intensity was found to be 50 rpm to achieve good settleability. The removal rate of algae was about 90-95%. Additionally, the removal rate of the T-P and COD was observed to be $73.8{\pm}8.0%$ and $75.0{\pm}3.8%$, respectively. Meanwhile, the removal rate of total nitrogen (T-N) was relatively low at only 24%.
