Objective : Fatigue is the most common symptom in post-COVID-19 syndrome. We report the case of a patient with post-COVID-19 syndrome with fatigue treated using herbal medicine (Saengkangsasim-tang). Methods : A 64-year-old man had severe fatigue for 4 months after a severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Saengkangsasim-tang was administered to this patient based on the disease pattern identification diagnostic system by Shanghanlun provisions (DPIDS). We used the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to evaluate the effectiveness of Saengkangsasim-tang for fatigue in the patient with post-COVID-19 syndrome. Results : According to DPIDS, the patient was diagnosed with the provision 157. After administration of Saengkangsasim-tang for 30days, the fatigue based on NRS and depression based on BDI were improved. Conclusions : The administration of Saengkangsasim-tang to patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome with fatigue, diagnosed according to the Shanghanlun provision 157, may be effective.

Objective: This study aimed to report the improvement of a patient with nummular eczema treated with Hoeyeok-tang based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods: According to the disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS) based on the Shanghanlun provisions, the patient was diagnosed with lesser yin disease according to the 324^th provision. The patient was treated with Hoeyeok-tang for 90 days. The severity of pruritus decreased, and changes in symptoms were estimated by a visual analog scale, Scoring Atopic Dermatitis Index and the Validated Investigator Global Assessment for Atopic Dermatitis. Results: The patient's symptoms were improved. The severity of pruritus decreased and they recovered from abrasions. Conclusions: This study suggests that the 324^th provision of Shanghanlun refer directly to nummular eczema.

Objective: This case report presents the effect of Oryeong-san on vasovagal syncope. The patient was diagnosed with Grater Yang disease based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods: According to the disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions (DPIDS), we diagnosed the patient as presenting Greater Yang disease. The patient was treated with Oryeong-san for 45 days. The change in symptoms was estimated based on VAS. Results: After treatment, the patient's VAS score from 10 to 0 and he was completely cured. Conclusions: This case study shows the effectiveness of using Oryeong-san on vasovagal syncope according to DPIDS.

Objective : This case report presents the effect of Hoiyeok-tang on atopic dermatitis. A patient was diagnosed with Lesser Yin disease based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods : According to the disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions (DPIDS), we diagnosed the patient with Lesser Yin disease. The patient was treated with Hoiyeok-tang for 87 days. The changes in symptoms were estimated by the SCORAD index. Results : After treatment, the SCORAD Index improved from 57.3 to 33.5. The patient also body weight from 89.1 kg to 76.5 kg. Conclusions : This case study shows the effectiveness of Hoiyeok-tang on atopic Dermatitis according to DPIDS.

Objective: This study aimed to report the effect of Oryeong-san on Menière's disease. Methods : A 48-year-old female complained of Menière's disease and daily frequent headache. Based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system, the patient was treated with Oryeong-san. The result was evaluated by the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) and a numerical rating score. Results : After administration of Oryeong-san for 46 days, the DHI score decreased from 42 to 4. The average number of dizzy spells decreased from 6 to 0. Conclusions : Some cases of Menière's disease can be treated by Oryeong-san.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to report the improvement of a patient with tinnitus treated by herb-formulae medication based on Shanghanlun provisions. Methods : According to a disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions, a patient was diagnosed with Taeyang-byung, 40th provision and was administered Socheongryong-tang herbal medication for 45 days. The numeric rating scale (NRS) was used to estimate the response. Results : The NRS score changed from 10 to 0 and the tinnitus disappeared by 40th provision of Socheongryong-tang selected according to Shanghanlun provisions. Conclusions : This case report suggests that the two words in the 40^th provision of Shanghanlun, '表不解, 水氣'(exterior do not release, water qi) indicate a close relationship between economic difficulty and stuffiness of being in water, which affect tinnitus in this case.

Objective : This study aimed to report the improvement of a patient with chronic rhinitis treated with herbal medication using the disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS) based on the Shanghanlun provisions. Methods : According to the Shanghanlun DPIDS and an etymological interpretation of Chinese characters, the patient was diagnosed with Reverting yin disease (provision 352) and took Dangguisayeokgaosuyusaengang-tang herbal medication for 50 days. The change in symptoms of chronic rhinitis were estimated using the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS), the Rhinitis Control Assessment Test (RCAT), and a visual analog scale (VAS). Results : The TNSS score decreased from 8 to 3, the RCAT score decreased from 14 to 24, and the VAS decreased from 10 to 2. Conclusions : The main causes of the disease were 厥 and 內. This is the first case report of describing the treatment of chronic rhinitis with Dangguisayeokgaosuyusaengang-tang.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to report improvement in patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treated with herbal medication described in Shanghanlun. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with Lesser Yin disease based on the 315^th provision of Shanghanlun, and Baektonggajeodamjup-tang was used for treatment. The result was evaluated using the Korean-Childhood Autism Rating Scale (K-CARS). Results: The K-CARS score decreased from 32 to 15 after 7 months of treatment. Conclusions: Lesser Yin disease 315^th provision of Shanghanlun may be a provision describing ASD; in addition, Baektonggajeodamjup-tang may be an effective treatment for ASD.

Objective : The purpose of this study was to report the improvement in two patients with different complaints of sleep disorder treated with herbal medication based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system (DPIDS), and hypothesize the meaning of word '更'. Methods : According to DPIDS, patients were diagnosed with Taeyang-byung no. 29 provision, and took Gamchogungang-tang herb medication 15 or 90days. The results of administration were evaluated by the hyperhidrosis disease severity scale (HDSS) and the visual analog scale (VAS). Results : After administration of Gamchogungang-tang 15 or 90days, based on 29 provision of Gamchogungang-tang diagnosed according to Shanghanlun provisions, in one case the HDSS decreased from 3 to 1 and the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. In the other case, the VAS decreased from 10 to 1. Conclusions : Each patient not only recovered from symptoms of hyperhidrosis and alopecia areata, but also from sleep disorders following administration of a single medication of Gamchogungang-tang. This case report suggests that the word '更' in the 29 provisions of Shanghanlun means sleep disorder in this case.

Objective: This study aimed to report the effect of Baekhogainsam-tang on brain fog. Methods: A 59-year-old female patient complained of brain fog and waking up frequently during the night. Based on the Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system, the patient was treated with Baekhogainsam-tang. The result was evaluated using the score. Results: After administration of Baekhogainsam-tang for 45 days, the MFI score decreased from 89 to 40. The average number of instances of waking up during the night decreased from 3 to 1.5. Conclusions: Some cases of brain fog can be treated by Baekhogainsam-tang.
