  • This study was to develop a machine vision system to detect and to discriminate 5 kinds of apple surface defectbruise, decay. fleck, worm hole and scar. To detect the defects from an image of apple, thresholding technique was applied to images on various frames (R, G, B, H, S and I) of the color machine vision and an image of near infrared (NIR). To discriminate the detected region of defect, various features of the 5 kind defect regions were extracted from the 4 kinds of images selected above. The features were size of area, roundness, axes length ratio, mean and valiance of pixel values, standard deviation of real part of amplitude spectrum in frequency domain obtained by Fourier transform of pixel data and mean and standard deviation of power spectrum obtained by the same transform of pixel data. Routines to discriminate the defects from the features of image were developed and tested to prove their validity. The test resulted that I-frame and NIR images were the most desirable. Accuracies of the two images to discriminate the defects were noted as 76% and 77%, respectively.

  • This study was to investigate if there are important variables of rural tourism destination for foreign tourists that discriminate rural tourism perception, experience, and intention to behavior. of the experience activity among the regions and the villages. From the literature review, the survey questionnaires was developed to measure important variables of rural tourism destination, rural tourism perception, experiences and intention to behavior. A total of 799 useful samples were collected and analyzed in SPSS. Factor analysis showed that there are four underlying dimensions (program, preparation to receive, service and regional products, and human service). the results of discriminate analysis showed that service and regional products are important variables in rural tourism perception and experiences. And also service and regional products and human service are important variables in intention to behavior. More detailed discussion and implications are provided in conclusion.

  • There are many origins of fire which are offered by many path, such as cigarette-butt, light of match, playing with fire, arson, and other, in and around wastebasket. Because of above-mentioned thing and the quality of the plastic, it is very difficult to discriminate the difference of burned pattern between in and around wastebasket, between an accidental fire and arson in oder to investigate the point of fire. In this study, the wastebaskets filled up with 2/3 combustibles, and then, in and around wastebasket using the gas lighter by ignitor, and we observe how the fire spread. As a result, if wastebaskets are burned inside the limit 50%, we discriminate the difference of burned pattern between in and around wastebasket. But, if wastebaskets are burned more thant 50%, it is impossible to discriminate the difference of burned pattern between in and around wastebasket.

  • This study was carried out to analyze the characteristics of the color computer vision to discriminate apple surface color for grading apples by their color. It was intended to develop the techniques to be able to discriminate apple color as precisely as human inspection does. For the purpose, discrimination of apple color by human inspection was checked and justified ; various illumination methods for various frames of the color computer vision(R, G, B, H, S and I frames) were tested ; and several methods to analyze image informations of the color computer vision were tried to evaluate their ability to discriminate apple color close to the human inspection.

  • In this paper, we are going to propose the new algorithms to detect, classify, discriminate the transient and the reflected signal from noise and thus discriminate the fault section and locale the fault accurately on underground power cable system. Actually, at this system, it's very difficult to discriminate the transient because of the reflected signal including many noises. Therefore, how to solve the noise interference is a big problem. In this paper, authors present a solution based on multiple scales correlation of the transient using stationary wavelet transform. It's simple, quick and straightforward. For applying all algorithms, we just use the signal captured in single end.

  • In this paper we introduce some adaptive M-estimators using selector statistics to estimate the center of symmetric and continuous underlying distributions. This selector statistics is based on the idea of Hogg(1983) and Hogg et. al. (1988) who used averages of some order statistics to discriminate underlying distributions. In this paper, we use the functions of sample quantiles as selector statistics and determine the suitable quantile points based on maximizing the distance index to discriminate distributions under consideration. In Monte Carlo study, this robust estimation method works pretty good in wide range of underlying distributions.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to test criterion-related validity of the Critical Patients' Severity Classification System (CPSCS) developed by the Hospital Nurses' Association by examining relationships with brain injury severity measured by Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), recovery state measured by Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS), and days of stay in ICU of brain injury patients. Methods: Prospective correlational research design was adopted by including 194 brain injury patients admitted to ICU of one university hospital. Results: The score of CPSCS appeared to significantly discriminate the severity of brain injury. Among nursing activities in CPSCS, Respiratory therapy, IV Infusion and Medication, Monitoring, Activities of Daily Living (ADL), Treatment and Procedure were significant to discriminate the severity of brain injury. Respiratory therapy, Vital Signs, and Monitoring appeared to significantly discriminate the recovery states of 1- and 3-months. Nursing activities significantly contributed to predict the days of ICU stay were Respiratory therapy, ADL, and Teaching and Emotional Support. Conclusion: CPSCS developed by the Hospital Nurses Association appeared to be valid to discriminate or predict brain injury severity, recovery states, and days of stay in ICU for brain injury patients.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify differences in processes of change, decision making, and self-efficacy by exercise behavioral stages and determine variables significantly affecting the older people's participation in exercises. The subjects of this study included 299 people aged 65 or over who were residents of G and S districts in Busan Metropolitan City. They were selected through purposive quota sampling at colleges and centers for old people and homes in order that they could be evenly distributed over stages of pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance. Data were analyzed using descriptive, ANOVA, Logistic Regression. Variables that discriminate between participants and non-participants in exercise include self-reevaluation, reinforcing management, cons and self-efficacy. Thus if variables that discriminate between participant and non-participation in exercise such as self-reevaluation, reinforcing management, cons and self-efficacy are fully considered in designing nursing interventions for inducing old people to become exercise participants, it would provide guidelines for nursing intervention programs as appropriate for the people's exercise stages. • The debris slope landforms which are existent in Korean mountains is generally on the steep slopes and mostly covered by vegetation, it is difficult to investigate the landform. Therefore a scientific method is required to come up with an effective field investigation plan. For this purpose, the use of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies for a spatial analysis is essential. This study has extracted the potential area of debrisslope landform formation using Fuzzy set and Bayesian Predictive Discriminate Model as mathematical data integration methods. The first step was to obtain information about debris locations and their related factors. This information was verified through field investigation and then used to build a database. In the second step, the map that zoning the study area based on the degree of debris formation possibility was generated using two modeling methods, and then cross validation technique was applied. In order to quantitatively analyze the accuracy of two modeling methods, the calculated potential rate of debrisformation within the study area was evaluated by plotting SRC(Success Rate Curve) and calculating AUC(Area Under the Curve). As a result, the prediction accuracy of Fuzzy set model wes 83.1% and Bayesian Predictive Discriminate Model wes 84.9%. It showed that two models are accurate and reliable and can contribute to efficient field investigation and debris landform management.

  • In this study, a neural network algorithm through a data standardization method was developed to discriminate the phase-shifted partial discharge(PD) patterns such as a $\phi$-q-n pattern. Considering the PD measurement in the field, it is not so easy to acquire absolute phase angles of PD pulses. As a consequence, one of the significant problems to be solved in applying the neural network algorithm to practical systems is to develop a method that can discriminate phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns. Therefore, authors established a new method which could convert phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns to a standardized $\phi$-q-n pattern which was not influenced by phase shifting. This new standardization method improved the recognition performance of a neural network for the phase-shifted $\phi$-q-n patterns considerably.
