  • In this paper, finite element with embedded discontinuous line is introduced in order to avoid the difficulties of adding new nodal points along with crack growth in discrete crack model. With the discontinuous element using discontinuous shape function, stiffness matrix of finite element is derived and dual mapping technique for numerical integration is employed. Using the finite element program made with employed algorithms, algorithm is verified and fracture analysis of simple concrete beam is performed.

  • A punctured torus $\Sigma(1,1)$ is a building block of oriented surfaces. The goal of this paper is to formulate the matrix presentations of elements of the Teichmuller space of a punctured torus. Let $\cal{C}$ be a matrix presentation of the boundary component of $\Sigma(1,1)$.In the level of the matrix group $\mathbb{SL}$($\mathbb2,R$) we shall show that the trace of $\cal{C}$ is always negative.

  • This paper discusses the problem of designing an observation function as coarsest as possible in supervisory control of discrete event dynamic systems. Some algebraic properties of two sets consisting of observation functions for which the given desirable behavior is realizable are investigated:these sets with a partial ordering turn out not to possess largest elements. Two natural methods of obtaining an observation function, which is frequently coarser than the identity mapping, are also presented. An example illustrates the use of these methods.

  • We study an age-dependent s-i-s epidemic model with spatial diffusion. The model equations are described by a nonlinear and nonlocal system of integro-differential equations. Finite difference methods along the characteristics in age-time domain combined with finite elements in the spatial variable are applied to approximate the solution of the model. Stability of the discrete periodic solution is investigated.

  • We prove that a maximal ideal M of D[x] has two generators and is of the form where p is an irreducible element in a PID D having infinitely many nonassociate irreducible elements and q(x) is an irreducible non-constant polynomial in D[x]. Moreover, we find how minimal generators of maximal ideals of a polynomial ring D[x] over a DVR D consist of and how many generators those maximal ideals have.

  • In this paper, the design of decoder for R-S code using discrete finite-field Fourier transform is presented. An important ingredient of this design is a modified Euclid algorithm for computing the error-locator polynomial. The computation of inverse elements is completely avoided in this modification of Euclid algorithm. This decoder is regular and simple, and naturally suitable for VLSI implementation.

  • Geomaterials such as soil and rock are composed of discrete elements of microstructures with different grains and microcracks. The studies of these microstructures are of increasing interest in geophysics and geotechnical engineering relating to underground space development We first show experimental results undertaken for direct observation of microcrack initiation and propagation by using a newly developed experimental system, and next a homogenization method for treating a viscoelastic behavior of a polycrystalline rock.

  • A pair of pants $\Sigma(0,3)$ is a building block of oriented surfaces. The purpose of this paper is to formulate the matrix presentations of elements of the Teichmuller space of a pair of pants. In the level of the matrix group $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$, we shall show that an odd number of traces of matrix presentations of the generators of the fundamental group of $\Sigma(0,3)$ should be negative.

  • Tn this paper. a numerical method for the system analysis of the slab track is presented. In the model rail is considered to have a distributed mass and to be supported by sleepers discretely on slab. The slab supported by discrete slab pads- isolators Put on floor is modelled by finite beam elements The system analysis for the same type floating slab laid in Puchon station is carried out using the developed program. Then the numerical results are compared with system requirements for slab track.

  • The study presents the results of the research of heat and heat exchange processes on the heat-stressed elements of the structure of an advanced TsAGI descent vehicle. The studies were carried out using a mathematical model based on solving discrete analogs of continuum mechanics equations. Conclusions were drawn about the correctness of the model and the dependence of the intensity of heat and mass transfer processes on the most heat-stressed sections of the apparatus surface on its geometry and the catalytic activity of the surface.
