  • This paper is proposed vibration minimize method of slotted PMLSM which is designed to minimize detent force. For improvement of operational performance by changing velocity profile to reducing the vibration at discontinuous section of acceleration curve in this paper, proter type machine is made, the vibration is compared general trapezoid velocity profile with vibration minimization velocity profile.

  • In this paper, electronic ballast with Interleaved Boost Cell is presented. The proposed topology is based on a single-stage ballast which combines a boost converter and a half-bridge series resonant inverter High power factor and low THD(reduction of current ripple) are achieved by using the boost semi-stage operating in discontinuous conduction mode, and inverter semi-stage operated above resonant frequency to provide zero voltage switching is employed to ballast the fluorescent lamp. The experimental results from the ballast system with fluorescent lamps have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed electronic ballast.

  • Input current ripple and harmonic components of the power device are main causes of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Although the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation can reduce harmonic components of the power device by reducing reverse recovery current of diode and turn-off voltage spikes of the switch, input current ripple increases due to high peak to peak inductor current. Therefore, in this paper, frequency control algorithm is proposed to reduce the input current ripple of DCM operated interleaved boost converter. In the proposed algorithm, duty ratio is fixed either 0.33 or 0.67 to minimize the input current ripple and the switching frequency is controlled according to operating conditions. 600 W 3-phase interleaved boost converter prototype system is built to verify proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents a loss analysis and compares three pulse width modulation (PWM) methods applied in a three-phase grid-connected bidirectional inverter for an energy storage system. The losses in switching devices and output low pass filters are theoretically analyzed by using PWM control techniques. Grid-connected bidirectional inverters are designed by using PWM techniques, and the designed inverters are simulated to verify the analysis results.

  • This paper presents a current-source-inverter based on a buck-boost configuration and its application for residential photovoltaic system. The proposed circuit has five switches. Among them, only one switch acts as chopping, and the other determine the polarity of output; therefore, it can reduce the switching loss. Because the input inductor current is operated on the discontinuous conduction mode, high power factor can be achieved without additional input current controller. So the overall system shows a simple structure. The operational modes are analysed in depth, and then it was verified through the experimental results using a 150 W prototype.

  • A FB-ZVS(Full Bridge Zero Voltage Switching) PWM DC/DC converter for electric vehicles is simulated and implemented in this paper. The converter considered is a step-down DC/DC converter with the ratings of 312/13.5V and 1.35kW. The steady state operation of this converter is divided into six operating modes in case of continuous current mode and eight operating modes in case of discontinuous current mode. Digital simulations using PSpice are carried out to verify the steady-state analysis. A prototype converter was built in the laboratory. MOSFETs were used for swithching devices and fast recovery diodes to reduce the charge storage problem of a pn-junction.

  • In high power application, PFC(Power Factor Correction) pre-regulators are generally required. PFC pre-regulators could achieve unity power factor, reduce line input current harmonics and utilize full line power. Interleaving PFC converters could reduce input ripple current, output capacitor ripple current and inductor size. With this closed loop interleaving method, both two phase converters are working at the boundary between continuous and discontinuous mode and accurate 180 degree phase shift is achieved. Implementation of this strategy could be easily integrated to the control chip. Finally, experimental results of a two-phase interleaved boost PFC are presented to verify the discussed features.

  • The polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) with the advantages of low-operating temperature, high current density, low cost and volume, fast start-up ability, and suitability for discontinuous operation becomes the most reasonable and attractive power system for transportation vehicle and micro-grid power plant in a household. 200W PEMFC(Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell) system applied to middle and small-scaled micro-grid power system was constructed by this study, then the electrical characteristics and diagnosis of the fuel cell were analyzed with thermal variation.

  • The effects of mechanical alloying conditions on the formation of Mn-sulfide powders were analyzed. Impeller rotating speed, lubricant coating and added amounts of process control agent(stearic acid) were selected as a process control factor. MnS compounds are synthesized in 3 hours by mechanical alloying at the alternative milling condition. Discontinuous rotating speed of 1200rpm for 4 minutes and 1000rpm for 1 minute shows more effects on the compound formation of MnS. After coating of lubricant on the wall, elementary Mn and sulfur were partially remained by mechanical alloying. The friction effects of the wall and grinding media on the powders are significantly important to form the compound of MnS.

  • Several masses of the alpine type ultramafic rocks are found within the Precambrian Kyeonggi gneiss complex, western part of Chungnam province. They occur as discontinuous isolated lenticular bodies along the fault line(NNE direction), dominant tectonic directions of Kyeonggi gneiss complex. The ultramafic rocks occur as fault contacts with the adjacent Precambrian metamorphic and metasedimentary rocks. (omitted)
