Speech Recognition of Korean Phonemes 'ㅅ', 'ㅈ', 'ㅊ' based on Volatility and Turning Points (변동성과 전환점에 기반한 한국어 음소 'ㅅ', 'ㅈ', 'ㅊ' 음성 인식)

  • A phoneme is the minimal unit of speech, and it plays a very important role in speech recognition. This paper proposes a novel method that can be used to recognize 'ㅅ', 'ㅈ', and 'ㅊ' among Korean phonemes. The proposed method is based on a volatility indicator and a turning point indicator that are calculated for each constituting block of the input speech signal. The volatility indicator is the sum of the differences between the values of each two samples adjacent in a block, and the turning point indicator is the number of extremal points at which the direction of the increment or decrement of the values of the sample are inverted in a block. A phoneme recognition algorithm combines the two indicators to finally determine the positions at which the three target phonemes mentioned above are recognized by utilizing optimized thresholds related with those indicators. The experimental results show that the proposed method can markedly reduce the error rate of the existing methods both in terms of the false reject rate and the false accept rate.

  • Entering the 21st century, countries throughout the world are turning the direction of their education to be consumer-oriented and reinforcing lifelong education in preparation for the rapid advance of science and technology and the globalization, opening and informatization of the world. With the reinforcement of consumer-oriented education and lifelong education, the role of school is emphasized as a ground for lifelong education in community and efforts are being made to use schools and community facilities compositely so that schools may play the role of central facilities in community. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to analyze the relation between lifelong education and school facilities in the educational aspect, and to suggest a basic architectural direction so that schools may play central roles for social, cultural, educational, welfare, and sport activities in community.

A Case of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo Treated with Stellate Ganglion Block (성상신경절 차단으로 치료했던 양성 발작성 현기증 1예)

  • A fourty-year-old housewife was admitted to the Department of Ear, Nose, and Throat from the emergency room, because of severe vertigo associated with positional changes of the head. Hallpike maneuver produced typical patterns of bilateral nystagmus consistent with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV), and further geotropic rotatory nystagmus with positional change of the head in each direction. Direction of nystagmus reversed when the patients was repositioned upright. Particle repositioning maneuver was administered to her left ear but failed to relieve the severe dizziness associated with the head turning to the right. She was then referred to the patient received 27 SGB treatments and the patients was almost completely healed. It is unusual for the BPPV to occur bilaterally therefore reference concerning the effectiveness of SGB for the treatment of BPPV was difficult to obtain. In conclusion we would like to report the successful treatment of BPPV with SGB.

Swimming Characteristics of the Black Porgy Acanthopagrus schlegeli in the Towing Cod-End of a Trawl

  • Fishing selectivity is determined by the level of voluntary escaping behavior in accordance with decision-making based on the relationship between fish size and mesh size. This study examined movement during the swimming behavior of black porgy in a trawl's towing cod-end and analyzed the movement components such as swimming speed, angular velocity of turning, and distance to the net over time. Most of the observed fish exhibited an optomotor response, maintaining position and swimming speed without changing direction. Others exhibited erratic or 'panic' behavior with sudden changes in swimming speed and direction. The latter behavior involved very irregular and aperiodic variations in swimming speed and angular velocity, termed 'chaotic behavior.' Thus, the results of this study can be applied to a chaotic behavior model as a time series of swimming movements in the towing cod-end for the fishing selectivity.

  • There are some difficulties to track an object with one-axis two-wheel drive method. When one-axis two-wheel drive robot wants to approach to the object, it should turn direction of the robot. At this time, direction of camera also would be changed. In this paper, we introduce omni-directional driving system that can move freely without turning the robot body, and propose the optimal approaching method.

Study on Deburring and Burr Mechanism of Fabricated Micro-Pattern on Cylindrical Workpiece (원통형 공작물에서 미세패턴의 디버링 및 버의 생성 메커니즘)

  • Burr generation is inevitable during the machining of a micro-pattern, and it is difficult to distinguish between the pattern and burr because they have a very small dimensions. In this study, a micro-pattern with a pitch of $60{\mu}m$and height of $1{\mu}m$ was fabricated on a cylindrical surface using a turning machine. The structure of a burr and its generation mechanism were determined, and a magnetic abrasive deburring process was used to improve the accuracy of the pattern. As a result, when fabricating a micro-pattern, it was shown that the direction of the burr was determined by the feed direction of the tool. The measured pattern height was $1.018{\mu}m$ when the magnetic flux density and spindle speed were respectively 40 mT and 1600 rpm, respectively, during magnetic abrasive deburring, which were determined to be the optimal conditions for processing.

Predicting lane speeds from link speeds by using neural networks

  • In this paper, a method for predicting the speed for each lane from the link speed using an artificial neural network is presented to increase the accuracy of predicting the required time of a driving route. The time required for passing through a link is observed differently depending on the direction of going straight, turning right, or turning left at the intersection of the end of the link. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the speed according to the vehicle's traveling direction. Data required for learning and verification were constructed by refining the data measured at the Gongpyeong intersection of Gukchaebosang-ro in Daegu Metropolitan City and four adjacent intersections around it. Five neural network models were used. In addition, error analysis of the prediction was performed to select a neural network experimentally suitable for the research purpose. Experimental results showed that the error in the estimation of the time required for each lane decreased by 17.4% for the straight lane, 4.4% for the right-turn lane, and 3.9% for the left-turn lane. This experiment is the result of analyzing only one link. If the entire pathway is tested, the effect is expected to be greater.

  • This paper proposes the UIGRP, which can tackle the problem of the network disconnection and packet transmission delay caused by turning vehicles frequently in an urban intersection. The UIGRP was designed as follows. First, it calculates the direction of vehicles using the moving direction of vehicles and the location of a destination. Second, it makes the RSU measure the density of an urban intersection. Third, the TGF Algorithm in the UIGRP decides the data transmission paths by setting as an intermediate node, not only the vehicle that is moving in the direction where a destination node is located, but also the node that has the highest density. The TGF algorithm using a moving direction and density minimizes or removes the occurrence of local maximum problems that the existing Greedy Forwarding algorithm has. Therefore, the simulation result shows that UIGRP decreases the occurrence of local maximum problems by 3 and 1 times, and the packet transmission time by 6.12 and 2.04(ms), and increases the success rate of packet transmission by 15 and 3%, compared to the existing GPSR and GPUR.

  • As a new technical approach, the achievement of an eco-environmental leisure boat with a photovoltaic system is attempted by simultaneously actuating nine photovoltaic solar panels, in association with an applied sail control system by use of wind. In this approach, the photovoltaic system consists of a solar module, an inverter, a battery, and relevant components, while the sail control device is equipped with a sail up/down and mast-turning instrument. Furthermore, this research conducts a performance evaluation of the manufactured prototype and acquires the purposed quantity value and the development purpose items. The significant items-sail up/down speed (seconds) and mast turning angle (degrees)-are evaluated during the performance test. In the process of the performance evaluation, a wind direction sensitivity of 90% and a maximum instant charging power of 900 W were also obtained. In addition, the maximum sail time is evaluated in order to acquire the optimum quantity.
