  • Using Green's theorem, elliptic boundary value problems can be converted to boundary integral equations. A numerical methods for boundary integral equations are boundary elementary method(BEM). BEM has advantages over finite element method(FEM) whenever the fundamental solutions are known. Helmholtz type equations arise naturally in many physical applications. In a boundary integral formulation for the exterior Neumann there occurs a hypersingular operator which exhibits a strong singularity like $\frac{1}{|x-y|^3}$ and hence is not an integrable function. In this paper we are going to remove this hypersingularity by reducing the regularity of test functions.

  • This paper describes on experimental investigation into the heat dissipation of Diesel engine, placing emphasis on the variations of compression ratio and cooling water temperature. The engine used for this test was a vertical single-cylinder four-cycle type, having a direct injection. Engine performance and heat transfer rates was tested under the compression ratio 14.3 and 17.4. In this study, the results showed that output and transfer rates of engine decrease in accordance with the decrease of compression ratio. The effect of cooling water temperature and injection delay of fuel on the heat dissipation brings about the decrease of heat transfer rates from cylinder to cooling water.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find a new method for the warehouse location problem. Akinc and Khumatvala developed a branch and bound algorithm for a one-stage problem, that is, plants and warehouses are at the same location. This paper extends this method to a two-stage problem, that is, plants, warehouses and users are located at different sites, and further this paper allows direct flows from plants to users. The new method is tested at Perkins-Elmer. The test shows that the algorithm is efficient.

  • Previous researches about headed reinforcement have not been concerned about bond failure which is quite important is some cases. In this paper, failure mechanism including bond failure was presented in order to define the contribution of bond stress at the time failure occurs. Examined with design codes and test results, it is proved to be rational to consider the contribution of bond stress in determining the ultimate pull-out capacity of headed reinforcement. Direct adaptation of design code for anchor bolt without modification for the contribution of bond stress will lead to underestimate the capacity of headed reinforcement.

  • In this paper, two methods of power circuit simulation is described in order to obtain the back data for design of current source inverter. One is steady-state analysis by differential equations during the various operating modes. Another method uses switching function, which represents the switching pattern of inverter, and direct-guadrature model of induction motor. The results of digital computer simulation by two methods are compared with the results of laboratory test.

  • Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) insulators for direct current (DC) were developed and their electrical characteristics were investigated. Electrical tests were carried out to measure withstanding and flashover voltages under common use frequency condition. Tensile and bending tests were performed for the mechanical characteristics. The test results showed that DC FRP insulators had superior voltage resistances and strengths to porcelain insulators.

  • Vickers hardness is defined as indenting force per unit area indented by a pyramid-shaped diamond at the hardness test. It is well known that Vickers hardness has a direct relation with the flow stress of the strain-hardened material. This relation was theoretically investigated and the result was summerized in a form of algebraic equation in the last paper. In the present paper and experimental validation of this theoretical relation is given along with mathematical formulas for conversion of Vickers hardness into the flow stress in the strain-hardened material for practical use.

  • This study presents the slope stability analysis results for the model slope test. The model slope was made of the soil reinforced by FPF(Fibrillated Polyprophylene Fiber). The shear strength properties of the soil reinforced by FPF fibers were evaluated through the direct shear tests. The model slope 1:1 and 1:1.5 were made and the load tests were performed. Back analysis using limit equilibrium method was carried out to evaluate the shear strength increase on the FPF reinforced slope. The factor of safety of the FPF reinforce slope increased about 23% over unreinforced slope.
