  • Whereas traditional user interface are well accepted modes of information exchange, the new digital conversion type's of information media is relatively complex and provides new means of transaction with user interface. User interface can be decomposed into two component: the physical structure through which information media is controlled, and the presentation of the content. This research explores the two user interface element have different effect on the adoption of information media and, as such, can influence perceived usefulness, perceived easy of use, and intention of use. The hypotheses have been tested with the survey of 148 end-users examines two interface characteristics factors such as efficiency, error, design, entertainment, accuracy, and vividness, and so on. The research summarized in this paper decomposes the influence of interface elements of physical structure interface and content presentation interface to gain a better understanding of how interface stimulates user's perceived usefulness to adopt the information media.

  • With the advance of digital technology, new methods which acquire color information and combine it with various contents are emerging. Color has some effect on emotion while it gives some information as component of an image. In addition, change in emotion and sensation from color stimulus makes some change in cognition. This research investigate the effect of color overlay on cognition depending on emotional state. With this goal, subjects consisting of 10 men and 10 women solved some problems with color overlay of red, orange, and green after watching short video clips which intend to induce target emotion. Experimental results show that red color overlay under positive emotion significantly reduces the average score of solving problems, while green overlay under negative emotion significantly increases it. It is also analyzed that there is not statistically significant difference in cognitive function with color overlay while it is significantly better under positive emotion than negative emotion without color overlay.

  • Increasing evidence implicates changes in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ and oxidative stress as causative factors in amyloid beta ($A{\beta}$)-induced neuronal cell death. Cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G), a component of anthocyanin, has been reported to protect against glutamate-induced neuronal cell death by inhibiting $Ca^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ signaling. The present study aimed to determine whether C3G exerts a protective effect against $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced neuronal cell death in cultured rat hippocampal neurons from embryonic day 17 fetal Sprague-Dawley rats using MTT assay for cell survival, and caspase-3 assay and digital imaging methods for $Ca^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, MMP and ROS. Treatment with $A{\beta}_{25-35}$ ($20{\mu}M$) for 48 h induced neuronal cell death in cultured rat pure hippocampal neurons. Treatment with C3G for 48 h significantly increased cell survival. Pretreatment with C3G for 30 min significantly inhibited $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced $[Zn^{2+}]_i$ increases as well as $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increases in the cultured rat hippocampal neurons. C3G also significantly inhibited $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced mitochondrial depolarization. C3G also blocked the $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced formation of ROS. In addition, C3G significantly inhibited the $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced activation of caspase-3. These results suggest that cyanidin-3-glucoside protects against amyloid ${\beta}$-induced neuronal cell death by reducing multiple apoptotic signals.

  • This paper presents qualification process of the T700/701K turbo-shaft engine for Korean Utility Helicopter(KUH). The T700/701K is the rear-drive variant of the GE's T700-701C/D engine which was qualified for military applications in the world. The main scope of the development is the modification from a front-drive engine to a rear-drive one, the performance enhancement of the power turbine and the incorporation of two channel FADEC(Full Authority Digital Engine Control) system for more reliable operation. Therefore, T700/701K engine must be qualified by Korean government in order to perform a flight in the country. Reflecting the influence of developing scope, the main requirements including performance and control are verified by test and analysis, while the requirement for module or component that is same to that of T700-701C/D are verified by similarity.

  • DaVinci processors are popular media processors for implementing embedded multimedia applications. They support dual core architecture: ARM9 core for video I/O handling as well as system management and peripheral handling, and DSP C64+ core for effective digital signal processing. In this paper, we propose our efforts for optimal implementation of object tracking algorithm in DaVinci-based smart camera which is being designed and implemented by our laboratory. The smart camera in this paper is supposed to support object detection, object tracking, object classification and detection of intrusion into surveillance regions and sending the detection event to remote clients using IP protocol. Object tracking algorithm is computationally expensive since it needs to process several procedures such as foreground mask extraction, foreground mask correction, connected component labeling, blob region calculation, object prediction, and etc. which require large amount of computation times. Thus, if it is not implemented optimally in Davinci-based processors, one cannot expect real-time performance of the smart camera.

  • This paper describes the color comparison analysis of flame in each standard color model in order to propose the optimal color model for image processing based flame detection algorithm. Histogram intersection values were used to analyze the separation characteristics between color of flame and color of non-flame in each standard color model which are RGB, YCbCr, CIE Lab, HSV. Histogram intersection value in each color model and components is evaluated for objective comparison. The analyzed result shows that YCbCr color model is the most suitable for flame detection by average HI value of 0.0575. Among the 12 components of standard color models, each Cb, R, Cr component has respectively HI value of 0.0433, 0.0526, 0.0567 and they have shown the best flame separation characteristics.

  • If a personal robot is popularized like a personal computer in the future, many kinds of robots will appear and the number of manufacturers will increase as a matter of course. In such circumstances, it can be inefficient, in case each manufacturer makes a whole platform individually. The solutions for this problem are to modularize a robot component (hardware and software) functionally and to standardize each module. Each module is developed and sold by each special maker and an end-product company purchases desired modules and integrates them. The standardization of a module includes the unification of the electrical, mechanical and software interface. In this paper, a few prototypes developed based on the concept of this study are introduced and possibility which can be standard platform is verified. Each prototype has merits and demerits, and a new structure of the hardware platform considered them is proposed Also the software architecture to develop the standardized and modularized platform is introduced and its detailed structure is described. The name of a method and the way to use that are defined dependently on the standard interfaces in order to use a module in other modules. Each module consists of a distributed object and that can be implemented in the random programming language and platform. It is necessary to study on the standardization of a personal robot after this steadily.

  • The electrical properties of a back drilled via-hole (BDH) without the open-stub and the plated through via-hole (PTH) with the open-stub, which is called the conventional structure, in a high-count multi~layered (HCML) printed circuit board (PCB) were investigated for a high-speed digital system, and a selected inner layer to transmit a high-speed signal was farthest away from the side to mount the component. Within 10 GHz of the broadband frequency, a design of experiment (DOE) methodology was carried out with three cause factors of each via-hole structure, which were the distance between the via-holes, the dimensions of drilling pad and the anti-pad in the ground plane, and then the relation between cause and result factors which were the maximum return loss, the half-power frequency, and the minimum insertion loss was analyzed. Subsequently, the empirical formulae resulting in a macro model were extracted and compared with the experiment results. Even, out of the cause range, the calculated results obtained from the macro model can be also matched with the measured results within 5 % of the error.

  • In this paper, we present a new method for reconstructing detailed facial expression from roughly captured data with a small number of markers. Because of the difference in the required capture resolution between the full-body capture and the facial expression capture, they hardly have been performed simultaneously. However, for generating natural animation, a simultaneous capture for body and face is essential. For this purpose, we provide a method for capturing the detailed facial expression only with a small number of markers. Our basic idea is to build a database for the facial expressions and apply the principal component analysis for reducing the dimensionality. The dimensionality reduction enables us to estimate the full data from a part of the data. We justify our method by applying it to dynamic scenes to show the viability of the method.

  • Recently, many nation have released standard such as IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 59, which impose a limit on the harmonic current drawn by equipment connected to AC line in order to prevent the distortion of an AC Line. Therefore, Plasma Display Panel(PDP) which is highlightened in digital display device also has the Power Factor Correction(PFC) circuit to meet the harmonic requirements. In PDP power module, the conventional boost converter is usually used for the PFC circuit. However, it comes serious thermal problem on it's bridge diode due to heat of PDP, and therefore the system stability is not guaranteed. In this paper, the bridgeless boost converter, which is used for PFC circuit of the PDP power module, is designed and verified the possibility of the application In a practical product in a view of efficiency, component count, temperature and etc.
