  • In this paper, a problem of geometrically distorted images is considered. In particular, the paper discusses the detection of a watermark from a photographed image of the watermarked picture. The image is possibly obtained by using a digital camera. This watermark detection problem is made difficult by various geometric distortions added to the original picture through the printing and photographing processes. In particular, the paper focuses on the geometric distortion due to a projective transformation, as part of a camera 3D-to-2D imaging process. It is well-known that a cross ratio of collinear points is invariant under a perspective projection. By exploiting this fact, a projective-invariant digital watermarking technique is developed. By detecting the picture's corners, and the image center point at the intersection of two main diagonal lines, predefined cross ratios are used to compute the watermark embedded locations. From those identified embedding pixel locations, a watermark can be detected by performing a correlation between a watermark pattern and the image over those pixels. The proposed method does not require an inverse transformation on the distorted image, thus simplifying the detection process. Performance of the proposed method has been analyzed through computer experiments

  • GaAs, one of the III-V compounding semicondnctors, has been widely employed as base materials for the fabrication of the ultra-high-speed devices in the filelds of DBS, optical communications, MMIC'S and digital IC'S. There have been some reports on 4Kx4bit SRAM by D/E MESFET'S, 4K bit SRAM by HEMT'S, and receiver front ends for X-band by MMIC technologies, respectively. This paper reviews GaAs materials, wafer fabrication processes, device applications, and design aspects, and, finally, descusses the future of the ultra-high-spped-devices.

  • Echo cancellation is required for a dual-duplex high speed communication such as digital subscriber line(DSL), in order to allow each individual loop to operate in a full duplex fashion. Echo cancellation was one of the most difficult aspects of DSL design, requiring high linearity and total echo return loss in excess of 70 dB. For a long and rapidly changing echo response, if the echo is cancelled by an adaptive echo canceller, the echo canceller needs more taps and its performance is decreased. But if the response is divided into several responses, which response is estimated by a adaptive digital filter and combined, the computation complexities are decreased and the performance is increased. Therefore, the adaptive multi-stage echo canceller is proposed to decrease the computation complexity and increase the performance of echo return loss, in which the echo canceller is composed of several stage echo canceller estimating each divided echo response. Through computer simulations, this multi-stage echo canceller is verified to have merits for high speed communications such as DSL application.

  • In this paper, we designed a frequency synthesizer with a low phase noise and fast lock time and excellent spurious characteristics using the offset-PLL(Phase Locked Loop) that is used in GSM(Global System for Mobile communications). The proposed frequency synthesizer has low phase noise using three times down conversion and third offset frequency of this synthesizer is created by DDS(Direct Digital Synthesizer) to have high frequency resolution. Also, this synthesizer has fast switching speed using DAC(Digital to Analog Converter). but phase noise degraded due to DAC. we improved performance using the DAC noise filter.

  • This paper proposes a novel approach to interference avoidance via inter-cell relaying in cellular OFDMA-TDD (orthogonal frequency division multiple access - time division duplex) systems. The proposed scheme, termed asymmetry balancing, is targeted towards next-generation cellular wireless systems which are envisaged to have ad hoc and multi-hop capabilities. Asymmetry balancing resolves the detrimental base station (BS)-to-BS interference problem inherent to TDD networks by synchronizing the TDD switching points (SPs) across cells. In order to maintain the flexibility of TDD in serving the asymmetry demands of individual cells, inter-cell relaying is employed. Mobile stations (MSs) in a cell which has a shortage of uplink (UL) resources and spare downlink (DL) resources use free DL resources to off-load UL traffic to cooperating MSs in a neighboring cell using ad hoc communication. In an analogous fashion DL traffic can be balanced. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the asymmetry balancing concept by considering a seven-cell cluster and a single overloaded cell in the center. A mathematical model is developed to quantify the envisaged gains in using asymmetry balancing and is verified via Monte Carlo simulations. It is demonstrated that asymmetry balancing offers great flexibility in UL-DL resource allocation. In addition, results show that a spectral efficiency improvement of more than 100% can be obtained with respect to a case where the TDD SPs are adapted to the cell-specific demands.

  • Commumication technology has been continuously developed to overcome the distance and time for the transmission of information to the human society. Wireless mobile communication, which had been used mostly in the military and police is widely used these days for enterprise and individuals. Therefore the domestic usage of the advanced mobile phone service are progressively gaining wide popularity. The modulation techniques used usually in mobile communications were the analog techniques such as AM and FM, but they are getting replaced by the digital techniques, However, the major disadvantage of the digital communications is the increase of the transmission bandwidth. Therefore, it is very important to use efficiently the limited frequency bandwidth. The domestic research and development on the subject seems quite limited and in order to establish the technology of the digital mobile communications. This thesis presents the design of the frequency hopping synthesizer providing 124 channels with a channel spcing of 200KHz. VCD used in the synthesizer employs a semi-rigid cable for higher purity of signal spectrum, and a hybrid pgase detector is realized with a sample hold phase detector in conjuction with a tri-state phase detedctor.

  • Chaotic dynamics have been studied by many researchers in the fields of biology, physics, and engineering. Interest in chaos is also expanding to the social sciences such as politics, economics, and others, including the prediction of societal events. The concept of leisure has developed from a passive concept correlated with relaxation, entertainment, and ideology formation into a positive concept that assumes a more active role. As information and communications technology develops, digital leisure activity is expected to continue spreading. This expansion of digital leisure function correctly, as well as. Traditional leisure activity functions correctly more, whereas digital leisure activity is predicted to function incorrectly more often. In this paper, we propose a mathematical addiction model of digital leisure that deals with its dysfunctions such as addiction to digital leisure, including computer games, internet search, internet chatting, and social media. Herein, to solve addiction to digital leisure, we propose a model derived from a nicotine addiction.

  • MAA Digital library Workshop, October 6-8, 2006 was held at the newly completed Carriage House Conference Center at MAA Headquarters. This workshop is designed to inform participants about the Mathematical Sciences Digital Library (MathDL), the new MAA Math Gateway project, and the National Science Digital Library (NSDL) and to enable participants to conduct short sessions publicizing these online resources at MAA Section Meetings. The workshop was conducted by Lang Moore, David Smith, and Eileen McIlvain. Major support is being provided by the National Science Foundation through the National Science Digital Library Program. We introduce what was in there and how we properly use and publicize them and add what we could do.
