  • Inthe study, a method to evaluate the door closing sound has been developed. Based on the factor analysis, various adjective pairs which describe meaning of the door impact sound have been differentiated. This approach, called Semantic difference(SD) method, was originally developed in linguistics research on order to compare diverse mother tongue. This paper introduces at first how the door sound os generated and transmitted. After that, a factor analysis which is a tool of SD method is implemented to door closing sound for 12 domestic and 1 foreign car models. During investigation, the examined models are categorized into small, medium and luxurious size automobiles. The adjective pairs which attritbute to the door quality have been factorized into three group : expensive/ smooth, powerful/ heavy, and modern/dull. It turns out that the first factor : expensive/ smooth plays the most important role in door closing sound quality.

  • Most existing research into the metacognitive approach in mathematics learning has been concentrated mainly in the study of phenomena of metacognitive (including the affective) behaviour in the context of mathematical problem solving or more broadly mathematical content-elated learning. However, this study originally constructs the concept of "macroscopic metacognition" which could be differentiated with general metacognition, and draws out macroscopic-metacognitive factors among the elementary and middle school students through individual interview. Questionnaire research is executed to find out how the macroscopic metacognition is included into the students' mathematics learning and the relationship between their mathematics learning accomplishment and macroscopic metacognition. Thus, a considerable degree of the positive relationship between these two variables was found out.

  • Benign triton tumor (BTT) or neuromuscular hamartoma is an uncommon tumor composed of mature neural and well-differentiated striated muscular elements. Its development is exceptionally rare in the adult and head region. This report describes a case of adulthood BTT that occurred in the orbit. The patient was a 53-year-old woman who presented with right periorbital swelling and pain in eyeball over 2 months. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-enhancing mass surrounding optic nerve and ocular muscles in the right retrobulbar area. The tumor was subtotally removed via transcranial approach. Its pathological diagnosis was confirmed to be a neuromuscular hamartoma. She developed diplopia postoperatively. Adulthood BTT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of head and neck tumors. It is also important to make adequate therapeutic strategy to avoid postoperative neural dysfunction.

  • We investigated algorithm to detect and characterize interstitial lung abnormalities seen at chest radiographs. This method includes a process of 4 directional Laplaction-Gaussian filtering, and a process of linear opacity judgment. Two regions of interest (ROIs) were selected in each right lung of patients, and these ROIs were processed by our computer-analyzing system. For quantitative analysis of interstitial opacities, the radiographic index, which is the percentage of opacity areas in a ROI, was obtained and evaluated in the images. From or result, abnormal lungs were well differentiated from normal lungs. In our algorithm, the processing results were not only given as the numeric data named "radiographic index" but also confirmed with radiologists observation on CRT. The approach, by which the interstitial abnormalities themselves are extracted, is good enough because the results can be confirmed by the observations of radiologists. In conclusion, our system is useful for the detection and characterization of interstitial lung abnormalities.

  • A continuum-based shape design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method is presented for the acoustic radiation from thin body. The normal derivative integral formulation is employed as an analysis formulation and differentiated directly by using material derivative to get the acoustic shape design sensitivity. In the acoustic sensitivity formulation, derivative coefficients of the structural normal velocities on the surface are required as the input. Thus, the shape design sensitivities of structural velocities on the surface with respect to the shape change are also calculated with continuum approach. A simple disk is considered as a numerical example to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the analytical shape design sensitivity equations derived in this research. This research should be very helpful to design an application involving thin body and to change its acoustic characteristics.

  • The record of radiation therapy cases during a five year period at the University of Michigan Hospitals has been analyzed. Of a total of 73 adenocarcinoma of prostate, the majority belonged to Stage B and C which represented 49 and 20 cases, respectively. The mortality rate after irradiation was clearly related to the tumor stage. Local irradiation resulted in $88\%$ of the local control of well·differentiated adenocarcinomas. Stage C cases had $50\%$ mortality, whereas that of Stage B patients was $14\%$. Results of this study are in general agreement with previous data in terms of the local disease control after irradiation and provide a basis for conservative radiotherapy regimen as an approach in the treatment of localized prostatic carcinomas.

  • In Korea, most family restaurants run on interior, menu and service of nearly the same approach. This fact indicates that product itself is no longer a primary source they can rely on to compete successfully. To survive the keener competition, family restaurants need to come up with new management strategy. The kind of strategy that is fundamentally differentiated from the existing ones are required, by thoroughly analyzing what customers want. The purpose of this study was to examine the actual status of family restaurants, how much they were considered significant by their customers, and how much satisfaction the customers felt. There are some limitations in this study, which should be taken into account by future researches for more successful results: First, income was one of the demographic variables investigated in this study. Second, it's easy to find out the disposition of those in their 20s, but there were a lot of difficulties in identifying the family restaurant significance and satisfaction of people in their 30s and over. Third, this researcher was too subjective in sorting out tile significance and satisfaction attributes, which made it hard to test the validity of the selected attributes.

  • In this paper, a job shop scheduling system is developed which can cope with the changes of shop floor status with flexibility. This system suggests near optimal sequence of operations by using Genetic Algorithm which considers alternative process plans. The Genetic Algorithm proposed in this paper has some characteristics. The mutation rate is differentiated in order to enhance the chance to escape a local optimum and to assure the global optimum. And it employs the double gene structure to easily make the modeling of the shop floor. Finally, the quality of its solution and the computational time are examined in comparison with the method of a Simulated Annealing.

  • In this paper, we propose a group communication approach which can provide quality of service for soft real-time applications. This proposed scheme combining the explicit multicast, end-point measure-based admission control scheme(EMBAC), and diffserv, removes the need of maintaining state information in the network, so that it would be easily deployable in real networks. We propose the scheme of node configuration to measure the quality of the diffserv network, and that of managing EMBAC over group communication environment. By simulation, we validate the QoS of the proposed multicast service network.
