  • The purpose of this study was to figure out the various characteristics of the thickness sensation among elements of tactile sensation using psychophysical method. Firstly, panel screening was processed to select sensitive thickness panel using the triangle test. As a result of discriminating the paper thickness difference from 1 to 4 pieces, the female students perceived the thickness difference more sensitively than the male students (p<.05). Secondly, JND (Just Noticeable Difference) was obtained at percentage of stimulus detection rate in order to detect the degree of thickness difference by psychophysical method. It was found that the difference threshold of the entire group was about 0.125mm, with male group being about 0.178mm and female group being about 0.095mm. Thirdly, Weber's law was used to find the minimum discrimination difference between the stimuli. The experiments were conducted by increasing the paper's base thickness from 1.950mm to 1.330mm, and it was found that the difference tendency increased when the size of the basic stimulus increased. At this time, the minimum discrimination difference increased, but the Weber' fraction was not proportional to the magnitude of the stimulus. The significance of this study was that sensory evaluation was applied to research in the fields of clothing science and it seems effective to further screen and train sensitive students as material discrimination experts.

  • An experimental investigation on the leakage characteristics of a labyrinth seal, high-low seal, is studied. Pressure distribution and leakage flow rate are measured along with the shaft speed and the pressure difference between the entrance and the exit. Pressure distribution vanes almost linearly along the seal and the leakage flow rate increases as the increase of the pressure difference. Furthermore, it is found that both the shaft speed and the shaft vibration have no influence on the leakage of the labyrinth seal.

  • There was no a difference of genetic analysis among methods(means, joint scaling test, 3 Parameter model) . The magnitude of additive effects generally paralleled the magnitude of difference between parental means and appeared to be more independent from non-allelic interaction than did dominance effects, whereas the magnitude of dominance effects were inflated by non-allelic interaction. Additive effects were significant for all characteristics observed and it was a major effects in inheritance of number of leaves. Dominance effects were higher than additive effects for plant height, days to flower, flesh leaf weight per plant, curing rate, total alkaloid and total nitrogen.

  • This study investigates Korean phonation types in terms of spectral characteristics of release bursts. Particularly, this study compares intensity of the speech signal in the release burst, the center of gravity and skewness of the spectra of the release bursts across phonation types for the Korean alveolar plosives. The results showed that there was no significant difference in intensity, center of gravity, or skewness across phonation types but a significant difference across speakers.

  • As the brake control valve of freight car, there are sliding valve and diaphragm one. In this study, we measured and analyzed pneumatic characteristics of brake system of the freight car by using real train experiment. The difference of the release time appears in the freight car incorporated with sliding and diaphragm valve respectively. We adapted quick release valve to reduce the difference of the release time and also found that this valve is useful for the purpose.

  • The purposes of this study were to provide the fundamental data on elementary school girls' somatotype for their clothing construction by contemplating the stage of physical growth dividing into the period of school age and characterizing the variation of body type according to the school age. The results are as follows : 1. Form the results of one-way variables analysis and multiple comparson test(Duncan's test) classification of the period school age can be divided into 'early grade(1 2 grade)' ' middle grade(3 4 grade)' and 'later grade(5 6 grade)' 2. As the results of analyzing Mean Coefficient of Variation and Standard Deviation graph for direct and indirect measurments and index especially of the Coefficient Variation that explain individual difference of growth the items of height indicates individual difference related with height of lower body of early grade group the items of length individual difference related with length of upper body of later grade group and the items of circumference make little difference. The items of anagle makes pretty higher value that direct measurements and especially in lower angle of chest make a distinctive difference, This fact proves that children's somatotype change from the belly part extruded forwards of early and middle grade to the upper body part slanted slightly forward of later grade.

  • The ultrasonic motor(USM) has good characteristics such as compact size, silent motion, high speed responce, low speed and high torque. The USM is driven by 2-phase AC electricity. The control parameters of USM are voltage, phase, and frequency of input powers, etc. In this paper, a voltage difference control is proposed. The voltage difference control has more advantage than phase difference control. Specially, current and power is lower than that of phase difference control. For this voltage diffrence control, we designed USM controller to adjust volatage and phase using PLSI(Programmable Large Scale Integration).

  • In this study, global positioning system (GPS)-derived precipitable water vapor (PWV) and microwave radiometer (MWR)-measured integrated water vapor (IWV) were compared and their characteristics were analyzed. Comparing those two quantities for two years from August 2009, we found that GPS PWV estimates were larger than MWR IWV. The average difference over the entire test period was 1.1 mm and the standard deviation was 1.2 mm. When the discrepancies between GPS PWV and MWR IWV were analyzed depending on season, the average difference was 0.7 mm and 1.9 mm in the winter and summer months, respectively. Thus, the average difference was about 2.5 times larger in summer than that in winter. However, MWR IWV measurements in the winter months were over-estimated than those in the summer months as the water vapor content got larger. The results of the diurnal analysis showed that MWR IWV was underestimated in the daytime, showing a difference of 0.8 mm. In the early morning hours, MWR IWV has a tendency to be over-estimated, with a difference of 1.3 mm with respect to GPS PWV.
