The purpose of this study is to investigate the attitudes related to the science of elementary and middle school students. The instrument used for measuring attitudes was developed by Korea National University of Education. 1488 students were sampled by stratified cluster sampling method. The major findings of this study are as follows. 1.Elementary school students have significantly higher attitude scores than middle school students. 2.The value of Pearson's correlation coefficient among the sub-categories of science attitudes was 0.3773 - 0.6336, which was significant at the 0.001 level. 3.There was no statistically significant difference between grade and sex in middle school students. 4.There was statistically significant difference between grade and sex in elementary school students.
As women's social advance had accomplished improvements to standard of living and equal employment, new forms of dispute such as gender inequality, sex crimes, and divorce rate increases have begun to generate. Disputes between men and women are desirable to settle by ADR rather than by traditional litigation owing to difficulties of legal resolution, cost and time, need for amicable dispute, etc. This study aims to reveal whether there is a relationship between ADR and gender. Through review of previous articles, this study finds that gender difference makes a visible difference depending on case type, context, and sex role of participants. For example, women were selected as mediators and arbitrators in non-monetary and small-claims disputes, family, labor, and consumer disputes and men were selected in large-scale disputes and construction, corporate and commercial, and intellectual property disputes owing to differences of experience and professionalism. Women were relatively frequently selected as mediators owing to active communication skills and men were selected as arbitrators because of decision-making skills.
The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of nutrient density diets and sex on carcass and pork quality characteristics in finishing pigs. A total of 96 pigs(58.04 $\pm$ 6.85 kg) were divided into 2 groups(gilts and barrows), each sex group was assigned to 3 nutrient density(high : 18.5%, middle : 16.0% and low: 14.0% CP, respectively) and raised up to 1l0kg live weight. Each treatment had four replicates with three or five pigs per replicate. The treatments comprised the feeding regimes of 1) the low density diet for 60 days, 2) the middle nutrient density diet for the 30 days followed by a low nutrient density diet for the remaining 30 days and 3) the high nutrient density diet for the 30 days followed by a middle nutrient density diet for the remaining 30 days. Pigs were conventionally slaughtered, and then chilled overnight. Carcass characteristics and grades were determined on those carcasses, and pork loin muscle was removed from each left side at 5th to 13th rib for quality evaluation were evaluated. There were no differences in the carcass weight between sex and nutrient density. Dressing percent of L-L(gilts) treatment was significantly higher than that of other treatments(P< 0.05). Barrows showed a thicker back fat thickness than gilts. There were no difference in intramuscular fat, subcutaneous fat and springiness between sex and nutrient density. Intermuscular fat of barrows groups was significantly higher than the gilts groups(P < 0.05). In the meat quality characteristics, there were no difference in general composition, meat and fat color between sex and nutrient density. pH of L-L(gilts) treatment was significantly higher than that of other treatments(P < 0.05). Cooking loss and shear force value of H-M(barrows) treatment were significantly higher than those of other treatments(P< 0.05). Purge loss of barrows groups was significantly higher than the gilts groups(P < 0.05). Myoglobin content of H-M treatment was significantly lower than L-L and M-L treatments(P< 0.05). Texture of H-M treatment was higher than L-L and M-L treatments. The content of myristic, palmitic, palmitoleic and oleic acid were significantly higher in the barrows groups(P< 0.05). However, stearic, linoleic and arachidonic acid were significantly higher in the gilts(P < 0.05). Amino acid content of L-L treatment was significantly higher than M-L and H-M treatments(P < 0.05). In conclusion, carcass and pork quality characteristics were affected by sex and nutrient density.
The author investigated the effect of some variables such as age, sex and the experience of past vaccination on the validity of PHA. The changing pattern of the validity with the change of PHA diagnostic criteria, and the relationship between PHA test result and RIA Ratio Unit were also studied. The results obtained were as follow; 1) No statistically significant difference was found in sensitivity, specificity and negative predictability by sex, but positive predictability was significantly higher in male than that in female. 2) Positive predictability was shown to become higher with the increase of age and nagative predictability was found to be significally different among age groups, but no statistically significant difference was found in sensitivity and specificity by age group. 3) Significantly low specificity and high positive predictability were found in past vaccined group, but no statistically significant difference was found in sensitivity and negative predictability between past vaccined group and non-vaccined group. 4) False negative cases by PHA were found to be the weak positive reactors by RIA and false positive rate of PHA was as high as 46.3 per cent. 5) Sensitivity and specificity of PHA at the diagnostic criteria of HBsAb titer 1:2 were 98.4% and 53.8% respectively, but after increasing the HBsAb titer to 1:64 as the diagnostic criteria the results were 60.0% and 95.6% respectively.
The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between self-concept and clothing behavior of elementary school children. For this purpose. 301 third and sixth graders two schools in Daegu-city were sampled. The \`Test of Self-Concept\` and \`Questionnaire on the Clothing Behavior\` were administered purpose of this study. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS/PC Windows programs according to the research issues. Means and standard deviations were calculated and a three-way analysis of variance was applied to analyze the effects of grades, sex(gender) and self-concept on the clothing behavior. The major results of this study were as follows: 1. It was found that the mean score of the clothing behavior was significantly different depending the level of self-concept (group). The mean scores of manageability. psychological dependency interest and conformity of the high self-concept. group were significantly higher than those of the low self-concept group. But. there was no significant difference between the high and low self-concept groups in the mean score of comformity. 2. There were statistically significant differences between the sex of children in the mean score of the clothing behavior. It was found that the mean score of manageability, psychological dependency and interest of the female students were significantly higher than those of the male students. However the mean score of the comfortability of male students was significantly higher than that of the female students. In the meantime there was no significant difference between the sex of students in the mean score of comformity. 3. There were statistically significant differences in the mean score of the clothing behavior according to the graders of children . It was found that the mean scores of manageability, psychological dependency, interest and comfortability of the third graders were significantly higher those that of the sixth graders. But, there was no significant difference depending the grades of students in the mean score of conformity. 4. There were statistically significant interaction effects between the sex and the grade of children on the mean score of interest and comfortability. It was found that the mean score of interest of male third graders was higher than that of male sixth graders. The mean score of comfortability of the female third graders higher than that of sixth graders.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate sex role identity and family group characteristics among university students. Method: The participants of the study were 325 university students at S university in Seoul from September 1st to 30th, 2001 and from September 1st to 30th, 2003. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, sex role identity scale, and family group characteristics type scale. Data were analyzed by frequency, means, t-test, Chi-square test, and Pearson's correlation in the SPSS Win Program. Result: In this study, there was a high prevalence of androgyny to female(31.9%) and masculinity to male(39.4%) university students. There was a significant difference between male and female students in sex role identity(p=.000). "Family concord" indicated a high mean score of family group characteristics (4.71$\pm$.80). There were significant differences between family group characteristics and masculinity and femininity type. Conclusion: There is a high relationship between family group characteristics and sex role identities of university students. It is necessary to explore the varied aspects of the androgyny concept, and further research is needed on factors of family group characteristics.
Purpose: This study investigated the effectiveness of AIDS education on knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, severity, and intention of safe sex behavior among university students. Methods: This study was conducted from March, 2008 to May, 2008. The research design was a non-equivalent control group pre-post test. Participants 78 university students (control group) and 89 university students (experimental group). For the latter, AIDS education was provided once weekly for 1 h for 4 weeks. The educational program included understanding of sexuality, facts of AIDS, life stories of patients with AIDS, and safe sex behavior. The differences between two groups after education were analyzed by independent t-test. Results: The experimental group had significantly higher scores for knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, and intention of safe sex behavior compared to the control group. However, no significant difference was found for severity between two groups. Conclusion: AIDS education can be effective in improving knowledge, prejudice, susceptibility, and intention of safe sex behavior, and is recommended as an effective AIDS education for university students.
Purpose: This study investigated the health and socioeconomic status of single-parent and partnered families, and examined the intersection between sex and single-parent status focusing on inequalities of health and socioeconomic status. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study using the data from the nationally representative 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 14,827 respondents had custody of their own children and other family members (13,943 were coupled families and 891 were single-parent). Results: Our result indicate that single-parent had poorer health status and were more likely to have lower educational attainment, lower household income, no home ownership and be unemployed. However, the association between single-parent status and socioeconomic and health inequality were in divergent ways according to sex. The most socioeconomically disadvantaged were single-parent women. Inequalities in health differ markedly by sex but vary little according to single-parent status. Conclusions: An uneven distribution of socioeconomic resources might help us to understand why single-parent, both women and men, have worse health than parents who live together. Previously recognized sex gap with regard to health status also might help us to understand the difference in health between single-parent men and single-parent women found here.
The purposes of this study are to evaluate the Korean mandibular dental arch and classify the mandibular dental arch shape and size based on the incisal angle, canine angle, inter second molar width and height. In this study the mandibular study models were fabricated using irreversible hydrocolloid impression material from 225 volunteers with a mean age 23.62 (range 19-29). And the study models were measured with 3-dimensional measuring device and the mandibular dental arch was classified by means of K-means clustering method and visual inspection, then obtained data were analyzed with t-test for the statistical analysis. This study is an empirical research to identify difference of education training satisfaction by demographic variables, and to investigate the influence of education training satisfaction on the member's organizational commitment in general hospitals. As a result of ANOVA, t-test based on the data of 325 employees in 7 general hospitals in Korea, education training satisfaction has a significant difference by a construct and demographic variables. Education training satisfaction has a significant difference by a construct such as education training system, education training administration and education training practice. Education training satisfaction has a significant difference by occupation, career, scholarship. Education training satisfaction has a partly significant difference by status, age. But it has not a significant difference by sex distinction. Satisfaction of education training system and education training practice has a significantly positive relationship with organizational commitment. But Satisfaction of education training administration has a partly positive relationship with organizational commitment. By these results, the advanced education training structure needs to equipped in order to elevate management performance in general hospitals.
