A cracked tooth is defined as an incomplete fracture initiated from the crown and extending subgingivally and usually directed mesiodistally. Cracked teeth were most frequently involved in mandibular and maxillary molars at the age of 50s. Cracks occurred mainly in nonbonded restorations such as gold and amalgam, and majority of cracks were found in intact teeth. A pulpal and periapical diagnosis is dependent on the extent of the crack and duration of the symptom. The pulp of a cracked tooth might become inflamed because of microleakage, which induces thermal sensitivity. Once the crack has extended and exposed the pulp, severe pulp and periapical pathosis will likely be present. In addition, the extended crack can cause a bony dehiscence with a resulting narrow and deep periodontal pocket. Therefore, early diagnosis of the cracked tooth and proper treatment planning are important for clinician.

Pancreaticopleural fistula (PPF) is a rare complication in patients with pancreatitis. Its symptoms are similar to those of empyema or pleural effusion; therefore, it is important to consider PPF in the differential diagnosis. Herein, we describe the diagnosis and treatment of PPF in a patient presenting with unusual empyema and delayed hemoptysis.
Objectives Hand paresthesia is common syndrome and the cause is more unknown than known reason. The Purpose of this study were investigated the effects of Myofacial Pain Syndrome theory to make diagnosis and treatment by Pharmacopuncture for the patients of hand paresthesia. Method This study was carried out to established the clinical criteria of hand parethesia. The patients who had past history of diabeics, neuropathy induced by alcohol or drug were excluded, and 86 patients who had hand paresthesia related with unknown-reason was selected by the interview process. And the effects of Pharmacopuncture theory were analyzed using VAS score before and after treatment. Results and conclusions 56.9% of unknown-reason patients are positive at diagnosis by MPS theory. While positive group decrease from $62.81{\pm}14.27$ to $25.28{\pm}15.97$, negative group decrease from $55.88{\pm}10.92$ to $48.28{\pm}14.01$ by VAS scores. Positive group was accordingly more effective than negative group. So diagnosis and treatment for hand numbness patients by MPS theory was useful in clinical.
In order to evaluate the clinical features of the rcurred patients with temporomandibular disorders, 52 patients were subjected at the Dept. of Oral Medicine, PNUH from 1985 through 1996. As related to gender, duraton and diagnosis, Ll the relate factors-multiple diagnosis, emotinal problem, history of treatment, parafunctional habit, life distrubance, and trauma were analyzed. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The patients with multiple diagnosis were 83 percent and more often seen in women, chronic group and muscle-joint disorder group. 2. Duration of retreatment in chronic group and muscle-joint disorder was longer. 3. The patients with oral parafunctional habits were 89 percent and more often seen in women, chronic gorup, muscle-joint disorder group. 4. the Recurred patients showed 46 percent in history treatment, 42 percent in life distrubances, 39 percent in macrotrauma and 12 percent in emotional problem.

Polo-like kinase 1 (Plk1) is crucial regulator of cell cycle progression during mitosis. It is known to highly overexpress in many different tumor types, and has been implicated as a potential antimitotic cancer target. The phosphopeptide, Pro-Leu-His-Ser-p-Thr (PLHSpT), was shown a high level of affinity and specificity for the polo-box domain (PBD) of Plk1. However, the peptide has the limitation of cell permeability. We designed the derivatives to enhance the limitation of PLHSpT using drug delivery system. In addition, we synthesized and evaluated its radiotracer for tumor diagnosis. This review discusses the derivative and radiotracer that are suitable for tumor treatment and diagnosis for PBD of Plk1.
Synthetic biology builds programmed biological systems for a wide range of purposes such as improving human health, remedying the environment, and boosting the production of valuable chemical substances. In recent years, the rapid development of synthetic biology has enabled synthetic bacterium-based diagnoses and therapeutics superior to traditional methodologies by engaging bacterial sensing of and response to environmental signals inherent in these complex biological systems. Biosynthetic systems have opened a new avenue of disease diagnosis and treatment. In this review, we introduce designed synthetic bacterial systems acting as living therapeutics in the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases. We also discuss the safety and robustness of genetically modified synthetic bacteria inside the human body.

Orthopaedic medicine was developed and published by James Cyriax, a British Orthopaedic Physician on 1929. Orthopaedic medicine is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue lesions. These disorders affect a substantial proportion of all patients in general and in particular, physiotherapy and sports clinics. In broad terms these disorders em trace conditions. such as arthritis. rheumatism. fibrositis. backache. lumbago, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, strained wrist, sprains, aches, inflanmation and sports injuries generally. The soft Moving tissues share one thing in common - they are all radiotranslucent and the tissues in question are the joint capsule, the ligaments, the fasciae, dural sheath. These structures can cause pain but none of them is visible on the radiograph. Dr. Cyriax divided all soft tissues into two basic types : 1) Contractile tissue, 2) Inert or noncontractile tissue. The mechanism of diagnosis is tension applied manually. The physician subjects each tissue about the incriminated joint to tension in turn which they call 'Selective tension' with Cyriax's assessment, a more definitive diagnosis can be obtained and proper treatment can be implemented.
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is a clinically heterogeneous group of monogenic disorders characterized by ß-cell dysfunction. MODY accounts for between 2% and 5% of all diabetes cases, and distinguishing it from type 1 or type 2 diabetes is a diagnostic challenge. Recently, MODY-causing mutations have been identified in 14 different genes. Sanger DNA sequencing is the gold standard for identifying the mutations in MODY-related genes, and may facilitate the diagnosis. Despite the lower frequency among diabetes mellitus cases, a correct genetic diagnosis of MODY is important for optimizing treatment strategies. There is a discrepancy in the disease-causing locus between the Asian and Caucasian patients with MODY. Furthermore, the prevalence of the disease in Asian populations remains to be studied. In this review, the current understanding of MODY is summarized and the Asian studies of MODY are discussed in detail.
Whereas oral ranula is relatively common and presents as a cyst in the mouth, the plunging ranula is rare and manifests itself as a mass in the neck with or without an associated oral lesion. When there is a soft anterior neck swelling without oral swelling, diagnosis is still difficult. In such a case, clinical suspicion may be low and the pathologist may be misled by the histologic appearance. Recognition of the diagnosis of plunging ranula is essential for the correct treatment of these lesions. We report a case of a 4-year-old girl and review the literatures to discuss the differential diagnosis and treatment modalities.
Anemia can be defined as a reduction in blood hemoglobin concentration or red cell mass relative to age matched normal values. Clinical presentation may range from obviously pale and lethargy to an incidental finding during screening of an otherwise well appearing child. The differential diagnosis of anemia in each instance is broad with numerous possible etiologies. A careful history and physical examination as well as complete blood count, peripheral blood smear and additional laboratory tests are necessary in defining underlying cause of the anemia and guide in further treatment plans. In addition, Iron deficiency anemia and anemia of inflammation are common causes of mild to moderate anemia in children, but most pediatricians have some confusions to differentiate these two entities.
