It is well known that conventional welding techniques can result in welding defects due to the large groove angle of the weld. In this context, the narrow gap welding (NGW) technique is applied in the nuclear industry because of its inherent merits such as the reduction in welding time and the shrinkage of the weld, and the small deformation of the weld resulting from the small groove angle and welding bead width. In this paper, the distribution of welding residual stress and deformation behavior of the ER308L weld due to NGW are predicted through nonlinear two-dimensional finite element analysis, in which the actual NGW process is simulated in detail. In particular, the effects of the shape of weld, i.e., the width of the weld and the shape of the welding groove, on the residual stress are investigated. The present results can be used to assess the integrity of defective nuclear components and to improve the welding process.

The research on the FPGA CAD tools in academia has been lacking practicality due to the underlying FPGA fabric architecture which is too simple and inefficient to be applied for commercial FPGAs. Recently, the database of placement positions and routing graphs on commercial FPGA architectures has been built, and provided for enabling the academic development of placement and routing tools. To extend the limit of academic CAD tools even further, we have developed the evaluation toolkit for the K-FPGA architecture which is under development. By providing interface for exchanging data with a commercial FPGA toolkit at every step of mapping, packing, placement and routing in the tool chain, the toolkit enables individual tools to be developed without waiting for the results of the preceding step, and with no dependency on the quality of the results, and compared in detail with commercial tools at any step. Also, the fabric primitive library is developed by extracting the prototype from a reporting file of a commercial FPGA, restructuring it, and modeling the behavior of basic gates. This library can be used as the benchmarking target, and a reference design for new FPGA architectures. Since the architecture is described in a standard HDL which is familiar with hardware designers, and read in the tools rather than hard coded, the tools are "data-driven", and tolerable with the architectural changes due to the design space exploration. The experiments confirm that the developed library is correct, and the functional correctness of applications implemented on the FPGA fabric can be validated by simulation. The placement and routing tools are under development. The completion of the toolkit will enable the development of practical FPGA architectures which, in return, will synergically animate the research on optimization CAD tools.

This study summarizes the results of a research project aimed at investigating the inelastic rotation capacity of beam-column joints of reinforced concrete special moment frames. All of the test specimens were classified as special moment frame (SMF), based on the design and detailing requirements of the ACI 318-02 provisions. The acceptance criteria, originally defined for steel moment frame connections in the 1997 edition of the AISC Seismic provisions, were used to evaluate the beam-column joints of the reinforced concrete moment frames. A total of 39 test specimens were examined in detail. Most of the joints that satisfy the design requirements for special moment frame structures were found to be ductile up to a plastic rotation of 3% without any major degradation in strength. This is mainly due to the stringent ACI 318-02 requirements for special moment frame joints. The presence of transverse beams increases confinement and shear resistance of joints, which results in better performance than for joints without transverse beams. All of the SMF connections that satisfy the ACI 318-02 limitations on joint shear stress turned out to meet the acceptance criteria.
The ground anchor support system may not be occasionally used because of space limitations in urban excavation sites nearby the existing structures. In this case, soil nailing system with relatively short length of nails could be efficiently adopted as an alternative method. The general soil nailing support system, however, may result in excessive deformations particularly in an excavation zone of the existing weak subsoils. Pretensioning the soil nails then could play important roles to reduce deformations mainly in the upper part of the nailed-soil excavation system as well as to improve local stability. In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology named as the PSN (Pretension Soil Nailing), is developed to reduce both facing displacements and ground surface settlements in top-down excavation process as well as to increase the global stability. Up to now, the analytical procedure and design technique are proposed to evaluate maximum pretension force and stability of the PSN system. Also, proposed are techniques to determine the required thickness of a shotcrete facing and to estimate probability of a failure against the punching shear, Based on the proposed procedure and technique, effects of the radius of a influence circle and dilatancy angle on the thickness of a shotcrete facing, bonded length and safety factors are analyzed. In addition, effects of the reduction of deformations expected by pretension of the soil nails are examined in detail throughout an illustrative example and the $FLAC^{2D}$ program analysis. And a numerical approach is proposed PSN system using the shear strength reduction technique with the $FLAC^{2D}$ program.
Urban Data collected through Sensor Network is becoming crucial to understand and analyse a city. Thus, the Ubiquitous Sensor Network builds the foundation of the u-City development. This research aims to develop an energy monitoring application with an intuitive visualization environment which integrates energy usage information on top of urban geospatial information. Such a system will be able to facilitate effective energy supply plan at the early stages of urban planning, and eventually to encourage citizens to conserve energy by giving them real time monitoring information in an easy to understand visual environment. The system provides multiple layers of energy-related information coupled with the geospatial information layer in order to accommodate multiple viewpoints. On the other hand, the system provides logical Level of Detail control based on urban spatial information hierarchy. We defined the system concept and functions, and designed the data structure and the methods of information visualization. This paper presents the visualization methods, data structure, interactions scenarios which combines spacial information, E-GIS data and the energy related sensor data. Furthermore this research tries to introduce the concept of Social Sensor Networking to enhance the monitoring quality.

Looking at multimedia education contents from a design point of view, the instructor's design model may differ from the child's understanding model due to gap of the instructor's and child's knowledge. This fact implies it impacts the effectiveness of the education contents. The learning efficiency of Korean typography in WBI for children depends on the font-family, line space, font-size, the age of user, the output device such as the monitor, and other various factors. In this paper, we measured and analyzed on readability of Korean typography in WBI for children by reading speed method. The results of experiments show that readability depends on the font-family of typography, age(grade), and sex of children. In detail, "Goolymche" has the shortest time to be read, and girl and the highest grade students of elementary school have shorter time than boy and the lower grade students. Moreover, we consider the elegance of typography in WBI for holding children's interests because they prefer "Yopseoche". We provide some CSSs in WBI for children based on the experimental results, to used in school fields.

Course correction munition are a weapson system for precision attacks and are assembled by applying a ballistic control system to existing projectiles. The roll control system is a subsystem of the ballistic control system and is placed between the guidance and control units inside of the projectile, which undergoes a 5000g lateral acceleration. Thus, it is very important to design the system to endure this load. Many developed countries evaluate the performance and safety of course correction munitions' parts using live-fire gun launch tests or a soft recovery system. However, these methods are expensive and slow. Thus, in this study, we develop impact analysis model of the roll control system using CAE. We apply the code to simulate impact phenomenon and use Johnson-Cook material model for modeling the high strain rate effect on the materials. We also design bearings in detail to analyze their behavior and verify the reliability of CAE model through gas-gun impact tests of the roll control system.

The rectangular resonant cavity was designed and characterized as a microwave plasma source for focused ion beam. The optimum cavity was calculated analytically and analyzed in detail by using HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). Since the resonant cavity can be affected by the permittivity of quartz chamber and plasma, the cavity is designed to be changeable in one direction. By observing the microwave input power at which the breakdown begins, the optimum cavity length for breakdown is measured and compared with the calculated one, showing in good agreement with the optimum length reduced by 10cm according to the permittivity change in the presence of quartz chamber. The shape of breakdown power curve as a function of pressure appears to be similar to Paschen-curve. After breakdown, plasma densities increase with microwave power and the reduced effective permittivity in the cavity with plasma results in larger optimum length. However, it is not possible to optimize the cavity condition for high density plasmas with increased input power, because too high input power causes expansion of density cutoff region where microwave cannot penetrate. For more accurate microwave cavity design to generate high density plasma, plasma column inside and outside the density cutoff region needs to be treated as a conductor or dielectric.
Following the recent advancement in the use of social networks, a vast amount of different online reviews is created. These variable online reviews which provide feedback data of contents' are being used as sources of valuable information to both contents' users and providers. With the increasing importance of online reviews, studies on opinion mining which analyzes online reviews to extract opinions or evaluations, attitudes and emotions of the writer have been on the increase. However, previous sentiment analysis techniques of opinion-mining focus only on the classification of reviews into positive or negative classes but does not include detailed information analysis of the user's satisfaction or sentiment grounds. Also, previous designs of the sentiment analysis technique only applied to one content domain that is, either product or movie, and could not be applied to other contents from a different domain. This paper suggests a sentiment analysis technique that can analyze detailed satisfaction of online reviews and extract detailed information of the satisfaction level. The proposed technique can analyze not only one domain of contents but also a variety of contents that are not from the same domain. In addition, we design a system based on Hadoop to process vast amounts of data quickly and efficiently. Through our proposed system, both users and contents' providers will be able to receive feedback information more clearly and in detail. Consequently, potential users who will use the content can make effective decisions and contents' providers can quickly apply the users' responses when developing marketing strategy as opposed to the old methods of using surveys. Moreover, the system is expected to be used practically in various fields that require user comments.
