  • The vehicle interior noise caused by exterior fluid flow field is one of critical issues for product developers in a design stage. Especially, turbulence and vortex flow around A-pillar and side mirror affect vehicle interior noise through a side window. The reliable numerical prediction of the noise in a vehicle cabin due to exterior flow requires distinguishing between the aerodynamic (incompressible) and the acoustic (compressible) surface pressures as well as accurate computation of surface pressure due to this flow, since the transmission characteristics of incompressible and compressible pressure waves are quite different from each other. In this paper, effective signal processing technique is proposed to separate them. First, the exterior flow field is computed by applying computational aeroacoustics techniques based on the Lattice Boltzmann method. Then, the wavenumber-frequency analysis is performed for the time-space pressure signals in order to characterize pressure fluctuations on the surface of a vehicle side window. The wavenumber-frequency diagrams of the power spectral density shows clearly two distinct regions corresponding to the hydrodynamic and the acoustic components of the surface pressure fluctuations. Lastly, decomposition of surface pressure fluctuation into incompressible and compressible ones is successfully accomplished by taking the inverse Fourier transform on the wavenumber-frequency diagrams.

  • The purpose of this study is to design a heat insulator for reducing available energy loss in stratified thermal storage tank. Heat insulator is operated by buoyancy effect from density difference between hot and cold water without extra equipment. Analysis model using the Matlab Simulink was developed to estimate the internal temperature distribution in thermal storage tank and also used to select proper material and thickness of the heat insulator. Operational feasibility was confirmed through reduced scale experiment. As a result, heat insulator can effectively delay the formation of thermal boundary layer between hot and cold water. In reduced scale experiment, heat insulator can preserve additional 1540J of available energy. When applied to the real thermal storage tank, increase of 6% thermal storage efficiency can be expected.

  • Metal 3D printing, which is an additive metal manufacturing (AMM) process, enables the development of full-density metallic tools and parts using metal powders that are precisely delivered and controlled for deposition with no powder bed. However, some unknown geometric defects and irregular geometric features on an STL model can possibly result in incorrect metal part fabrication after the build. This study first proposes a methodical approach for verifying the build part, including the missing facet problems in an STL model, by defining some irregular features that possibly exist on the part. Second, 2D tool paths on each build layer were investigated for detecting any singular region inside the layer. The method was implemented for building two sample STL models using a direct energy deposition process, and finally, it was visually simulated for diagnosis.

  • In case of fire, vertically and intensively loaded rack warehouses are faced with a severe status due to the rapid increase in fires. In this regard, there have been trials to prevent fires from spreading by applying fire extinguishing systems, such as ESFR and In-Rack Sprinklers, vertical and horizontal barriers, etc.; however, it is difficult to calculate and design proper fire extinguishing systems caused by various composition conditions, such as the size and loading density of the rack, types of loading commodities, etc. Therefore, in this study, a standard rack was manufactured, incorporating a rack warehouse in Korea by site investigations, surveys, etc. In addition, a full scale fire test was executed to check the fire characteristics depending on the conditions of the ignition points. As a result, the extracted fire spread speed is expected to be utilized as a reference for performance comparisons of the fire extinguishing systems to be developed and applied in the future.

  • Purpose: The study was to identify influencing factors on fear of falling in postmenopausal women. Methods: With a correlational survey design, 125 postmenopausal women were recruited at the D metropolitan city by a convenience sampling. Fracture risk status was assessed by bone mineral densities (BMD) at lumbar and femur with DEXA method. A structured study questionnaire was used to measure demographic variables, osteoporosis self-efficacy, and fear of falling. Results: Mean age of the subjects was 59 years old and duration since menopause was 9.55 years. Twenty six percent of the subjects belonged to osteoporotic group in fracture risk status. Mean score for fear of falling was 16.10 (SD=5.18) indicating low level, and osteoporosis self-efficacy for exercise and diet was 44.76 (SD=7.41), indicating mid-range level. Factors influencing the fear of falling was longer time since menopause ($\beta=.30$), lower score of osteoporosis self-efficacy for exercise ($\beta=-.26$), poor health perception status ($\beta=-.16$), and presence of chronic disease ($\beta=.16$), and the explained variance was 20%. Conclusion: Although the level of fear of falling was yet low in postmenopausal women, women who had lower self-efficacy of osteoporosis for exercise and poorer health perception felt greater fear of falling. Therefore, an educational program specific to improve osteoporosis self-efficacy and reduce the fear of falling is needed for improving postmenopausal women's psychosocial well-being.

  • Recently, the amount of image and audio data has been increasing dramatically for high performance. According to this trend, a high-density magnetic recording system is necessitated and the tracks of magnetic tapes are getting narrower. This, in turn, requires the capstan servo system of the magnetic recording system such as DVCR to control precisely the speed and position of the capstan motor. Especially, in case of play-back, the capstan servo system should be able to position and maintain the head on the desired place of the track. To meet this requirement, digital camcorders use ATF (Automatic Track Following). In this paper, a new ATF block using discrete Fourier transform is proposed. The proposed ATF block was designed and implemented in ALTERA FPGA chips and fully tested in a real DVCR system. It is shown through experiments that the new ATF block is more cost-effective than other existing ATF blocks using digital lowpass filters. In particular, the number of logic gates can be reduced by 20% in average, compared to the existing ATF's.

  • A new via cutting structure in 2-layer DRAM package substrate has been fabricated to lower its power distribution network(PDN) impedance. In new structure, part of the via is cut off vertically and its remaining part is designed to connect directly with the bonding pad on the package substrate. These via structure and substrate design not only provide high routing density but also improve the PDN impedance by shortening effectively the path from bonding pad to VSSQ plane. An additional process is not necessary to fabricate the via cutting structure because its structure is completed at the same time during a process of window area formation. Also, burr occurrence is minimized by filling the via-hole inside with a solder resist. 3-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation and S-parameter measurement are carried out in order to validate the effects of via cutting structure and VDDQ/VSSQ placement on the PDN impedance. New DRAM package substrate has a superior PDN impedance with a wide frequency range. This result shows that via cutting structure and power/ground placement are effective in reducing the PDN impedance.

  • The development of memory design and process technology enabled the production of high density memory. However, this increased the complexity of the memory making memory testing more complicated, and as a result, it brought about an increase in memory testing costs. Effective memory test algorithm must detect various types of defects within a short testing time, and especially in the case of port memory test algorithm, it must be able to detect single port memory defects, and all the defects in the dual port memory. The March A2PF algorithm proposed in this paper is an effective test algorithm that detects all types of defects relating to the duel port and single port memory through the short 18N test pattern.

  • In this paper, we device stress-diffusion full coupling multiscale analysis method for battery electrode simulation. In proposed method, the diffusive and mechanical properties of electrode material depend on Li concentration are estimated using density function theory(DFT) simulation. Then, stress-diffusion full coupling continuum formulation based on finite element method(FEM) is constructed with the diffusive and mechanical properties calculated from DFT simulation. Finally, silicon nanowire anode charge and discharge simulations are performed using the proposed method. Through numerical examples, the stress-diffusion full coupling method shows more resonable results than previous one way continuum analysis.

  • The solar cell electrical output parameters such as the open circuit voltage($V_{oc}$) and short circuit current density($V_{sc}$) are intrinsic characteristics depending on junction depth, doping concentration, metal contacts barriers and cell structure. As a role of thumb for solar cell design, the metal contact barriers for phosphorus doped emitter should have lower work function in order to provide lower series resistance. The fabrication of PESC(passivated emitter solar cell) structure usually involves the use of titanium as a metal contact barrier. Chromium, which work function is similar to titanium but conductance is higher than titanium is being investigated as the new metal contact barrier. Although titanium has lower work function difference than chromium, the electric performances of chromium as contact barrier are higher than titanium. This better performance is attributed to the lower resistivity from chromium. This paper, therefore, compares the attributes of metal barrier contacts using titanium and chromium.
