  • The cause of software crisis is that software quality and productivity can not meet the requirement of software market. In order to resolve the software crisis, there are many approaches to be proposed. Software reuse is one of the high potential approaches to improve software quality and productivity. Some high-tech countries (like USA, Japan) have proposed and studied the topics of software reuse in 1970 and got several results. In software development procedure, the products of detailed design and implement phases are simple, definite and suitable for reuse. In this paper, the necessary documents of reusable software component will be proposed, and how to select and evaluate the software components with high reuse potential and high quality will be discussed and recommended.

Foreign Exchange Risk Control in the Context of Supply Chain Management

  • Purpose - Foreign exchange risk control is in an important component in the international supply chain management. This study shows the importance of the reference period in forecasting future exchange rates with a specific illustration of KIKO currency option contracts, and suggests feasible preventive measures. Research design, data, and methodology - Using monthly Won-Dollar exchange rate data for January 1995~July 2007, I evaluate the statistical characteristics of the exchange rate for two sub-periods; 1) a shorter period after the East Asian financial crisis and 2) a longer period including the financial crisis. The key instrument of analysis is the basic normal distribution theory. Results - The difference in the reference period could lead to an unexpected development in contract implementation and a consequent financial loss. We may avoid foreign exchange loss by using derivatives such as forwards or currency options. Conclusions - We should consider not only level values but also the volatilities of financial variables in making a binding financial contract. Appropriate measures may differ depending on the specific supply chain pattern. We may extend the study with surveys on actual risk measures.

  • An ongoing research project is devoted to the design and implementation of a satellite based asset tracking for supporting emergency management in crisis operations. Due to the emergency environment, one has to rely on a low power consumption wireless communication. Therefore, the communication hardware and software must be designed to match requirements, which can only be foreseen at the level of more or less likely scenarios. The latter aspect suggests a deep use of a simulator (instead of a real network of sensors) to cover extreme situations. The former power consumption remark suggests the use of a minimal computer (Raspberry Pi) as data collector.

  • This research develops a methodology for standard design of spatial Database utilizing the disaster ethnography. Especially, the disaster response operation is sensitive to the size of the disaster, location, damage situation, resource a variability, etc. Moreover, there are many unknown and unexpected factors that will affect the disaster response strategy. But, the future Crisis Management Systems is needed that past disaster teaching. In another words, from now on the response systems need to prepare several scenarios and spatial data and manual etc. before the disaster. Then, this research is the experimental research which examined the relationship between the disaster-ethnography and the GIS spatial data of disaster.

What Did You Expect: How Brand Personality Types and Transgression Types Shape Consumers' Response in a Brand Crisis

  • We examined how different types of brand personality play a role to develop a specific consumers' expectation toward a brand, and how this expectation works in various ways in different types of brand transgressions. Based on expectancy violation theory and brand transgression research, a 2 (brand personality types: sincerity vs. competence) × 2 (brand transgression types: morality-related vs. competence-related transgression) factorial design was employed. Corporate evaluations and purchase intention toward the brand were considered as dependent variables. We found that a brand having a sincerity personality is more vulnerable to a morality-related transgression. However, there is no difference in consumers' responses by transgression type for a brand with a competence personality. We identified that brand personality types and transgression types can be critical factors to influence consumers' responses in times of crisis. Theoretical and empirical implications are discussed.

  • Since the time of Vitruvius, the sciences have impacted on the perspectives for architecture and have had a direct influence on the shaping of built space. In recent years, architects have been looking again at sciences as a source of inspiration in the production of their designs and constructions. There are various ways to look at architecture's relationship to science. It is interesting to see how many of the words of day-to-day architectural speech have been drawn from science, the abundant use of references such as topology, fractals, chaos theory, and so on. The reasons for this may be obvious, insofar as science has become the dominant discourse of our times. The numerous attempts have been made to constitute architectural practice so as to bring it into line with the methods of science. But Alberto Perez-Gomez juxtaposed architectural theory and Husserl's. The Crisis of European Science. In Husserl's 'Crisis', it is modern science itself that is laid open question. Through examining its changing relationships to architectural ideas this paper is intended to describe the problematic relationship between science and architecture, in other words, architecture's as science.

  • Modern house degraded by object of possession by industry and capitalistic development, and it is losing genuine meaning as order system to secure perpetuity of dwelling. Paradigm of space embodiment need first of all laying stress on human's life to overcome such modem dwelling crisis. In modern age Europe, Adolf Loos tried to embody residing space of human center within modernistic developing of technology, urbanization etc.. For such reason, Raumplan is worth reviewing. By treatise that research about Raumplan is many already presentation of the results of ones study do. But most discussions were limited by opinion which is 'Three-dimensional space plan techniques' that give attention to in physical characteristics of Raumplan, and by opinion which is 'Adolf Loos' criticism about culture with outside society. We reconsidered Raumplan in side of general paradigm of residing space embodiment that started from relevant resident's life in treatise that see as such reason.   • The ecological theory of perception provides the human living, and meaning integrating norm to overcome the crisis caused by an eastern belief in human-centered wrong rationality formed at the past process of modernization. Prior to the overall consideration of ecological perception theory, looked into the concepts, contribution extent and its limitation of the existing perception theories for the environmental design.   • The terminology such as ecology, environment problems, ecosystems, ecofactory, and others related to environmental problems have been recently used in manufacturing systems, since the modern industries have to consider a global ecological crisis. The indifference of recent environmental problems which may be faced now has been paid attention to all engineering areas. In this paper, manufacturing functional requirements such as disassembly, disposal, disposal, or recycling are considered in the integrated product design development, which have not been considered well in the preliminary design stage. Those functions will contribute to reduce the waste and to long the product life cycle, which also satisfies the business benefits and customer requirements. The concurrent design concepts should be applied to integrate all possible factors. Therefore, few practical concurrent engineering tools are presented in here. The objective of this paper is to develop a called green manufacturing systems for integrated product design development by concurrent design concept which can give the desirable result in product design.

  • The development of urbanization in the twentieth century according to the rampant growth of industrialization not only brought about the improvement of life-quality but also induced us to reconsider the contemporary issues such as crisis of echo system which made us aware of the values and significance of the system and sustainable environments. As sustainability has been recognized as the holistic concept, it has been highlighted as one of the core concepts in the studies with the present ecological perspective. Particularly, as the plan of urbanization in Korea which had been based on the deconstruction has been converted into the regeneration, economic and cultural regeneration is also demanded for the future plan besides material regeneration. This study aims to scrutinize various attributes of socially sustainable designs in Yerba Buena Garden of San Francisco, USA which has been globally well known as a successful example of urban regeneration. By way of visit-and-observation of the place, the research for the study was conducted during the month of December, 2007. Three researchers visited Yerba Buena Garden to observe and take photographs and to obtain relevant data and public documents in local public library. Socially sustainable design was measured on the basis of such principles; social facilitation, permeability and accessibility, safely and emotional stability, softness and feminism, and child care convenience. Relevant data were systematically organized to support and prove the above principles. The result of the study is expected to effectively be utilized for Korean environment plan and design as a benchmarking guidelines against the crisis of degeneration and the aging society with the lowest birthrates in the world.
