  • In the current study, answer sheets from 8007 students in 236 Korean schools were selected and analyzed to examine errors that emerge in the process of solving descriptive questions of the National Educational Achievement Assessment in mathematics. Questions used in the analysis were response assessment covering middle school mathematics topics: "mathematical symbols and equations" and "functions." The behavioral domain of the questions was that of "problem solving and computation," which requires establishing an equation for a word problem and allows the calculation of an answer that meets a certain condition. The analysis results revealed various errors in each stage of each question, from understanding to solving; the study attempts to conjecture causes for these errors and draw pedagogical implications.

Methods: Subjects were 7,136 middle school students in Seoul. Data were from 2010 Student Health Examination in Seoul. Cross-sectional study using secondary data was performed. Descriptive, t-test and multiple logistic regression were conducted. Results: 7.2% among subjects required counselling for their school life problem. By demographics, the odds ratios of counselling need were 2.2 times in female, and 1.59 and 1.41 times in 8th and 9th grade vs 7th grade. By region, those of Dongbukbu (Northeast), Seobu (West), and Jungbu (Central) vs Kangnam (South of River) district were 0.46, 0.25, and 0.57 times. With regard to family and school life characteristics, those of inflicted violence, the bullying, family apprehension, and consideration of away from home were 3.38, 3.75, 2.08, and 2.40 times, while that of students having person to discuss was only 0.62 times. Conclusion: It is necessary to activate the school counselling program, especially enforcing support system, not only to enforce resilience of student, but also to decrease the health problems in family and school life.

  • For the purpose of integrating nursing diagnosis into the nursing curriculum, a descriptive survey research was done using the inductive method with questionnaires and a literature review. Research subjects included nurse educators, textbooks of adult nursing published in Korea, and the course outline for adult nursing used in one college of nursing. The Results show that there was common agreement on 39 nursing diagnosis which should be in cluded in the adult nursing curriculum, textbooks of adult nursing, and patient care on the medical-surgical units. The two existing nursing diagnosis classification systems(NANDA and Gordon's Human Response Patterns) show different basic frameworks and difficulties were discovered in integration of nursing diagnosis into the curriculum. To develop a conceptual framework for a nursing diagnosis classification system, diagnosis were classified into three categories ; health promotion, high risk problem, and actual problem on the basis of the framework used in adult nursing textbooks and Gordon's 11 Functional Health Patterns. Subconcepts for actual problems were classified as ; activity and rest, nutrition and elimination, perception and coordination, stress and coping. Progress in this study supports further development of a conceptual framework of nursing based on a nursing diagnosis classification system, from which improvement in nursing education and clinical practice can be expected.

  • We investigated the effects of maternal parenting behaviors, children's emotional regulation, and stress coping strategies on gender-specific children's behavioral problems. The participants were 191, $4^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ graders and their mothers from four elementary schools in Seoul and Kyung-gi province. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The major findings were summarized as follows: (1) Active coping strategies explained boys' aggressive behaviors, (2) mother's warm-encouragement parenting behaviors and active coping strategies explained boys' delinquent behaviors, (3) mother's warm-encouragement parenting behaviors explained boys' withdrawn behaviors, and (4) mother's mediation-supervision parenting behaviors and negative emotionality explained girls' aggressive behaviors. In conclusion, maternal parenting behaviors, children's emotional regulation and stress coping strategies have gender-specific influence on children's behavioral problems.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting the social competence of school-aged children according alcohol consumption by their parents. Methods: The participants were 558 5th grade elementary school students. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from September 17 to October 2 2013, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression analysis with the SPSS PC+ 21.0 program. Results: Participants were classified into three groups according to alcohol use; Non-use parent group (52.7%), social use parent group (31.0%), and problem use parent group (16.3%). Participants whose parents were problem users had significantly lower scores on emotional awareness and expression (F=14.45, p<.001), social support (F=5.82, p=.003), and social competence (F=16.33, p<.001) compared to students in the other two groups. In school-aged children with parents who were alcohol abusers, the variables that predicted social competence was friend support (66.0%). Conclusion: These results emphasize the importance of focusing on the crucial role of peer support in the development of social competence in school-aged children of parents who abuse alcohol. Further, for these children, interventions aimed at improving social support and children's emotional awareness and expression may be most beneficial.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influences of stress, loneliness, self-control on the addiction of cell phone use among university students. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires from 467 students and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Out of the subjects, 1.5% were found to be addiction group, 89.9% at potential risk group, and 8.6% at non-addiction group. Addiction of cell phone use was significantly correlated with stress, loneliness and self-control. The influential factors affecting addiction of cell phone use over use problem, self-control, health problem, main using method and stress, which explained about 25.6% of the variance. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing intervention are needed to improve addiction of cell phone use, and that such variables should be carefully considered in intervention for university students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among stress, depression, coping styles and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students. Method: Two hundred fifty-eight nursing college students in 1 city were selected by convenient sample. A questionnaire measured the level of stress, depression, coping styles and satisfaction of clinical practice. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Result: The mean score of stress was 2.82 (${\pm}.39$), depression was 19.23 (${\pm}7.70$), coping styles was 2.42 (${\pm}.42$), and satisfaction of clinical practice was 2.81 (${\pm}.41$). There were significant differences on four variables according to the satisfaction of a nursing major. Stress had a significant positive correlation with depression, and a negative correlation with problem focused coping and satisfaction of clinical practice. Depression had a significant negative correlation with satisfaction of clinical practice. Emotional focused coping had a significant positive correlation with depression, and problem focused coping had a significant negative correlation with depression. Conclusion: From the studies reviewed, one can expect a positive effect on decreasing stress and depression among nursing students when the nursing educators use counseling and instruction for clinical practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate 5th graders' performance for mixed operational problem. For this purpose. two kinds of studies were conducted: a descriptive study by pencil and paper tests(32 problems) and a clinical study by interviews. The conclusions drawn from the results obtained in this study were as follows: First, students were highly scored in pencil and paper tests(M=85.25%). But that score is not up to scratch. Because the problem was composed of simple calculations and if students calculate problems from only let side, they gel 75% right answer, etc. Second, most of students solved mixed operational problems by text-based way, but some students solved flexibly. There are several error types. The main error type is students' following the wrong order of calculations. Some students have obstacles to express their thought with numerical expressions. So they make errors. Third, students solve mixed operational problems with various strategies. For examples, they solve problems by describing calculation procedures, drawing lines to indicate the order of calculations, carrying out two numerical expressions, etc.
