In this study, hybrid method using polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) which has a strong adhesion and flexibility in which acrylic copolymer chemical-reaction reacts with cement, and is eco-friendly, is to improve the watertightness. The hybrid method is applied applied primarily waterproof stuff comprising silicate system and secondary mortar mixed with PVAc on the concrete surface. And then, in order to evaluate the performance, the properties of bond strength and amount of water absorption were measured. Based on the above experiments, mock-up specimens for field application were fabricated, and then the properties were evaluated as laboratory experiments. As the results, specimens cast from hybrid method using PVAc showed the best results on watertightness and bond strength. And also, with respect to experiment of mock-up specimens, the properties were in agreement with laboratory results. Especially, it could know that PVAc has strengthening effect from the results of the compressive strength. Due to outstanding results of carbonation depth and resistance to chloride ion penetration, it may be applied in weak areas such as underground and marine structures.
For the construction of high-rise structures and the optimized foundation design, the use of the large-diameter PHC pile has increased. Especially, the use of the 600 mm diameter PHC pile has significantly increased. In this study, for the evaluation of the suitability of the current design practice, the 46 dynamic pile load tests, which were carried out in the 600 mm diameter preboring PHC pile, are analyzed. The end bearing capacity is obtained from the end of initial driving test and the shaft capacity is estimated from the restrike test. The allowable capacities estimated by the dynamic load test are compared with those based on the current design practice. The analyses show that the allowable end bearing capacity evaluated by the dynamic pile load test is greater than the design practice in most piles. The allowable shaft capacity, however, is smaller than the design practice in many piles. The higher end bearing capacity and the smaller shaft capacity may result from the improvement of the drilling equipment and the increase in the penetration depth. Thus, the portion of the end bearing capacity in the total capacity increases.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of crumb rubber recycled from used tires as a soil incorporation and topdressing materials on a trafficked Korean lawngrass‘Zenith’(Zoysia japonica). In Exp 1, incorporation treatments included three particle sizes (PS: coarse =4∼6.35 mm, medium =2∼4 mm, and One : less than 2 mm in diameter) and two incorporation rate (IR: 10 and 20%). Wear treatments were applied 30 passes per day by compactor weights being 60 kg with soccer shoes. Topdressing treatments included three PS and two topdressing depth (TD: 5 and 10 mm). Wear treatments were the same as described in Exp 1. In Exp 1, the treatment with medium PS+IR 20 resulted in the tendency to have high total clipping yield. There was no significant difference in clipping yield, turfgrass visual color, coverage, and root length among the treatments. Compared to control, tissue Zn levels increased about 6.5-fold by the treatments. The treatment with fine PS +IR 20 caused a less peak deceleration than coarse PS +IR 10. Total porosity, air-filled porosity, and capillary porosity increased with fine PS +IR 20. In Exp 2, compared to controls, however, there was a difference in turfgrass visual color after the termination of traffic treatment. There was no difference in root length. The treatment with fine PS + TD 10 resulted in the highest total clipping yield. As a result of soil physical analysis, soil penetration resistance was reduced by the treatments. The treatment with coarse PS resulted in a less peak deceleration than fine PS. In conclusion, turfgrass growth was increased by crumb rubber incorporation which enhanced soil physical properties. The crumb rubber topdressing was able to cushion the crown tissue area while still providing a smooth and uniform surface, improve overall turfgrass quality, and reduce compaction.
The small-loop electromagnetic (EM) technique has been used successfully for many geophysical investigations, particularly for shallow engineering and environmental surveys. In conventional small loop EM operating at small induction numbers, geometric sounding has been widely used because the depth of penetration of EM energy depends only on the source-receiver separation. Recently developed small loop EM system, however, measures the secondary magnetic field, $H^S$, at multiple frequencies with a fixed source-receiver separation and frequency sounding is tried actively. In this study, we analyzed the behavior of in-phase and quadrature components of ${H^S}_z$, for horizonal coplanar (HCP) configuration over two-layer models. Through this theoretical analysis, it was found that the in-phase component of ${H^S}_z$ is more suitable for frequency sounding than the quadrature component. But, the in-phase component of ${H^S}_z$ is too small to measure, especially in resistive and noisy environment like Korea. Using the fact that the quadrature component is much greater than the in-phase component and the difference of quadrature component of ${H^S}_z$ measured at two frequencies shows the same behavoir as the in-phase component, we suggested an alternative frequency sounding technique. Also, we defined an apparent conductivity, which reflects well the conductivity of subsurface layers.
The aim of present study is to evaluate the influence of adjacent tooth to the microbiology of clinically healthy implant. Control group included patients who had clinically healthy implant and tooth with healthy $periodontium(PD{\leq}3mm)$, test group was composed of patients who had clinically healthy implant and tooth with periodontal pocket(PD>3mm). The criteria of clinically health implant are no pain or discomfort, the restorative suprastructure provide satisfactory fit and function, and the tissue around the fixtures were firm and probing with standard periodontal probe with a rounded tip 0.5mm in diameter resulted in penetration of no more than 5mm when using a force of 0.5N at any location. 38 patients, partially edentulous subjects with endosseous root-form implants were selected. All subjects were medically healthy and had not taken systemic antibiotics and professional plaque control 3 months before sampling. Number of control group is 25(mean age $52{\pm}13$, 26 teeth, 34 implants) and test group is 13(mean age $60{\pm}13$, 13 teeth, 17 implants). All teeth and implants of each patient were examined probing depth(PD), bleeding on probing(BOP), and plaque index(PI), and samples of subgingival plaque were obtained at each site with sterile curet or fine paper points, then the plaque transferred to PBS. Obtained samples were examined for the presence of P. gingivalis, T. forsythensis, and T. denticola by the polymerase chain reaction(PCR). The relationship among clinical parameters and the colonizations by the 3 bacterial species from natural teeth and implants region were analyzed by student t-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. PD was different in teeth between 2 groups(p<0.05), but the other parameters were not. 2. Statistically significant difference was not found in clinical parameters of implants between 2 groups. 3. All bacterial prevalences of teeth were higher in test group than in control group, and prevalence of T. forsythensis had statistically significant difference between 2 groups(p<0.05). 4. Prevalences of P. gingivalis and T. forsythensis are higher in test group than control group, and that of T. denticola is higher in control group than in test group. But there were no statistically significant differences between 2 groups. In conclusion, there is no statistically significant difference in prevalence of implant microbiology between 2 groups. But if the number of samples increased, it will be possible to find out statistical significance in prevalence of P. gingivalis. It seems that pocket of adjacent tooth influences prevalence of P. gingivalis. These results mean that improvement of the periodontal condition before implantation is very important.
Parial drainage characteristics of clayey silt with low plasticity from the west coast (Incheon and Hwaseong) was analyzed using CPTU based existing correlation equations and compulsory replacement method. Generally, the estimated $OCRs={\kappa}{\cdot}((q_t-{\sigma}_{vo})/{\sigma}^{\prime}_{vo})$ using Powell and Quartman(1988) were higher than those obtained by the oeodometer tests. These trends were noticeable for the layers containing a lot of silty and sand soils. The assessment of partial drainage conditions was performed through Schnaid et al. (2004)'s equation; it is based on plotting the normalized cone resistance, $Q_t$ versus the pore pressure parameter, $B_q$ in combination with the strength incremental ratio, $s_u/{\sigma}^{\prime}_{vo}$ to the CPTU data. It is evident that more than half of the data fall in the range where $B_q$ < 0.3, corresponding to the domain in which the partial drainage prevails when testing normally consolidated soils at a standard rate of penetration (2 cm/s). To estimate the replacement depth of clayey silt with low plasticity, back analysis was carried out to evaluate the internal friction angle based on where the design depths are equal to the checked depths using bearing capacity equation. The internal friction angels obtained from the back analysis tended to increase as the plasticity index decreases, which is ranged approximately from ${\varphi}^{\prime}=2^{\circ}$ to ${\varphi}^{\prime}=7^{\circ}$.

This paper presents mechanical properties and chloride diffusivity of the recycled aggregate concretes(RAC) in which natural coarse aggregate was replaced by recycled coarse aggregate(RCA) by compressive strength levels(20, 35, 50 MPa). A total of 9 RAC were produced and classified into three series, each of which included three mixes designed with three compressive strength levels of 20 MPa, 35 MPa and 50 MPa and three RCA replacement ratios of 0, 50 and 100%. Engineering properties of RAC were tested for slump test, air content, compressive strength, chloride penetration depth and chloride diffusion coefficient. The test results indicated that the workability of RAC could be improved or same by RCA replacement ratios, when compared with that containing no RCA. This is probably because of the RCA shape improving the workability of RAC. Also, the test results showed that the compressive strength was decreased by 9~10% as the RCA replacement ratios increase. Furthermore, the result indicated that the measured chloride diffusion coefficient increases by 144% with the increase of the RCA replacement. In the case of the concrete having low level compressive strength, the increase of chloride diffusion coefficient tends to be higher when using the RCA. However, the trend of chloride diffusion coefficient in high level compressive strength concrete is similar to that obtained in general concrete. This is because that the effect of the RCA replacement could be a decrease with increase of compressive strength. Therefore, an advance on the admixture application and mix ratio control are required to improve the chloride resistivity when using the recycled aggregate in large scale.

Root distribution was monitored in the root zone of corn fields on several soil series in central Illinois during three growing seasons in order to find the effect of soil series and tillage system on root growth. A minirhizotron technique was used to videotape each soil profile in weekly intervals to a depth of 75 cm under conventional tillage (CT) and no tillage (NT) systems of cultivation. Root distribution near soil surface generally increased during the early stages of the growing season, but declined as surface soil moisture was depleted in late summer. Even though root distribution was not significantly different between soil series in this experiment. differences in root distribution between soil series were associated with the increases in root-available water storage capacity. Root population in the top 30 cm of NT plots. where increased water infiltration rates and saturated flow of soil moisture into the subsoil, was generally higher than that of CT plots in Illinois corn fields. Foots appeared in the deeper layers later in the growing season, with root penetration into subsoil layers occurring as much as 2-3 weeks earlier on the NT plots than in CT plots. In conclusion, root distribution was significantly affected by the tillage systems, but not different by soil series.

This study is to form the self assembly of cubic crystalline phase to penetrate into the skin epidermis. The various performance synthesized diglyceryl phytylacetate (DGPA) having hydroxyl group (-OH) and 4 methyl chains with phytyl group was carried out as an amphoteric lipid such as emulsifying power, self assembly. Emulsifying activity of DGPA was very stabilized on only 1% of small content, it could make a W/O emulsion containing high internal phase incorporated with water. Cubic liquid crystal structure with DGPA on three-phase diagram was formed, when mixed DGPA, dimethicone (2CS), and water. Through three-phase diagram forming the cubic liquid crystal area, hexagonal structure zone, and mixing water phase and hexagonal structure area, reversed micelle area were respectively certified. Its structure was proved by the SAXS (small angled x-ray scattering) analysis. As an application, formation of cubosome containing 10% of magnesium ascorbylphosphate and 5% of pyridoxine tris-hexyldecanoate was encapsulated. Occlusive effect of cubosome had above 1.7 times better than reversed micelle. From using poloxamer of dispersing agent, phase structure recovered from W/O emulsion to cubic liquid crystal phase when storage in $33^{\circ}C$ incubator. Therefore, our this study is expected to be as epidermal-dermal skin absorbers in skin care cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries as raw materials to form a cubic crystal phase through a more in-depth research to DGPA having amphoteric lipid property.

Glass fiber reinforced polyester (GFRP) composites are widely used as structural materials in harsh environment such as underground pipes, tanks and boat hulls, which requires long-term water resistance. Especially, these materials might be damaged due to delamination between gelcoat and composites through an osmotic process when they are immersed in water. In this study, GFRP laminates were prepared by surface treatment of UPE (unsaturated polyester) gelcoat by vacuum infusion process to improve the durability of composite materials used in underground pipes. The composite surface coated with gelcoat was examined for surface defects, cracking, and hardness change characteristics in water-immersion environments (different temperatures of $60^{\circ}C$, $75^{\circ}C$, and $85^{\circ}C$). The penetration depth of cracks was investigated by micro CT imaging according to water immersion temperature. It was confirmed that cracks developed into the composites material at $75^{\circ}C$ and $85^{\circ}C$ causing loss of durability of the materials. The point at which the initial crack initiated was defined as the failure time and the life expectancy at $23^{\circ}C$ was measured using the Arrhenius equation. The results from this study is expected to be applied to reliability evaluation of various industrial fields where gelcoat is applied such as civil engineering, construction, and marine industry.
