Purpose: This study compares differences in stress, depression and suicidal ideation between nursing and students of other academic disciplines. Method: Nursing students (n=105) and students of other majors (n=148) were surveyed on the degree of personal stress, depression and suicidal ideation. Participants were recruited from three universities in cities S and C in Korea. Data were collected from May 1 to 20, 2013. Measurement tools were the Revised Life Stress Scale for College Students, Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale(CES-D), and Scale for Suicide Ideation(SSI). PASW Statistics 18 was used for descriptive analysis, homogeneity test(chi-square distribution) and ANCOVA. Results: The level of stress among nursing students was lower than that of students in other majors. Among the subcategories of stress, however, stress among nursing students arising from the student-faculty relationship was higher than that of their non-nursing counterparts. Conversely, differences in the prevalence of depression were notsignificant between nursing students and non-nursing students. Ultimately, it was revealed that there exists a strong correlation among stress, depression and suicidal idea for nursing students. Conclusion: Developing stress and depression management programs for nursing students is highly recommended.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine levels of pain, depression, and adjustment to military life in soldier who experienced low back pain, in order to produce fundamental data for the development of health improvement programs to prevent and manage low back pain in soldiers with low back pain. Methods: Subjects of this study consisted of 317 soldiers who had low back pain. There is exhibit a degree of pain in the occurrence and course of treatment levels or oral, pain rating scale actions, such as illness, for example, the discomfort scale because of the pain "annoying", "unpleasant" "annoyed am", "painful" represents a pain scale of the order of "painful", "hard to bear", "very difficult to bear". Depression is recognized based on the premise of the situation, because it is difficult to recognize themselves. In this paper we define the components of the depression can be seen lifestyle which can lead to depression or through a biological signal. The depression index was derived from the ontology modeling to understand the state of depression. Depression ontology components and depression index will be aware of the situation based information services for depression. Combined with the situational awareness based devices and can be synchronized to verify the results of the depression index. It will be applied to improve lifestyle factors that of depression.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand depression in women with endometriosis and to identify the factors influencing depression. Method: The instruments used were the Beck Depression Inventory for depression, Lemaire Scale for endometriosis syndrome, Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale-Community form (MUIS-C), the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, and Quality of Life (Endometriosis Health Profile Questionnaire; EHP-5) by Jones et al. The Subjects of Study were 118 outpatients diagnosed with endometriosis from 7 hospitals in Busan City and Kyungsangnam-do. Data was collected from Aug 1, 2004 to Jan 31, 2005. For statistical analysis of collected data, frequency analysis, analysis of variance, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were used with the SPSS statistical program. Result: The general characteristic showing a statistically significant difference in depression in the women with endometriosis was marital status. The score of the depression showed a significantly positive correlation with the score of endometriosis TSD(r= .464, p= .000), uncertainty(r= .393, p= .000), and quality of life(r= .543, p= .000). Depression showed a significantly negative correlation with the score of self esteem(r= - .557, p= .000). Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most powerful predictor of depression in the women with endometriosis was self-esteem ($R^2$=0.311). A combination of self esteem, quality of life, and total symptom distress accounted for $50.0\%$ of the variance in depression in women with endometriosis. Conclusion: The influencing factor on depression in women with endometriosis was self- esteem, quality of life, and endometriosis TSD. Further studies need to be done to identify methods of overcoming and the presentation of depression in endometriosis.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationships among social support(family support, medical team support), hope, anxiety, and depression in patients with hematologic cancers before they received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) to obtain baseline data for developing a nursing intervention. Methods: The participants were 70 adult patients expecting to receive HSCT from 5 university hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Jeollanam-do regions. A cross-sectional survey was done using standardized instruments for social support (Tae's Family Support Scale and Professional Medical Support Scale), hope (Kim & Lee Hope Scale), anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 19.0 program using frequency, percentage, item mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Hope was significantly correlated with social support (r=.40, p=.001), anxiety (r=-.40, p<.001) and depression (r=-.58, p<.001). Anxiety was correlated with depression (r=.54, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study show greater social support for patients who expect to receive HSCT is significantly correlated to a higher level of hope, as well as low levels of anxiety and depression. In nursing practice, clinical nurses may develop a nursing intervention to reinforce social support and hope, as well as reduce anxiety and depression for patients preparing for HSCT.

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the relationships among perceived life stress, self-esteem, and depression in middle-aged women. Methods: Data were collected from March 30 to May 25, 2000. The study subjects were 123 middle-aged women living in Pusan. The instruments used for this study were the Perceived Life Stress scale developed by Lee (1984), based on the original scale designed by Yu, et al. (1994), Self-esteem scale developed by Rho, et al. (1997), and the Depression scale developed by Ahn (1988). For data analysis, the SPSS PC+ was utilized, by which frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficients were examined. The reliability of the instruments were tested by Cronbach's $\alpha$, showing the internal consistency of 0.7328 for the self-esteem scale. and 0.8987 for the depression scale. Results: 1) The results showed a relatively low perceived life stress score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 363.18 and 72.92 (range: .00 - 1877.38). 2) The results showed a relatively high self-esteem score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 29.77 and 5.06 (range: 10 - 40). 3) The results showed a relatively high depression score in the middle-aged women with a mean and standard deviation of 39.46 and 9.38 (range: 0 - 61). 4) There were no statistically significant differences in perceived life stress by demographic related factors. 5) There were statistically significant differences in self-esteem by health status (F=8.930, p= .000) and economic status (t=4.792, p= .010). 6) There were statistically significant differences in depression by age (F=3.770, p= .0261). education (F=4.850, p= .003) and regularity of menstrual cycle (F=13.180, p= .000). 7) There was no statistically significant correlation between perceived life stress, and self-esteem in the middle-aged women (r=-.077, p= .399). 8) There was no significant correlation between perceived life stress. and depression in the middle-aged women (r= .010, p= .916). 9) There was a significant negative correlation between self-esteem, and depression in the middle-aged women (r=- .359, p= .000). Conclusion: Higher self-esteem was related to a lower depression status. Therefore, it is necessary to elevate the level of self-esteem in order to reduce the level of depression in middle-aged Korean women.

Bipolar disorder is a psychopathy characterized by manic and major depressive episodes. It is important to determine the degree of depression when treating patients with bipolar disorder because 810% of bipolar patients commit suicide during the periods in which they experience major depressive episodes. The Hamilton depression rating scale is most commonly used to estimate the degree of depression in a patient. This paper proposes using the Hamilton depression rating scale to estimate the effectiveness of patient treatment based on the linear mixed effects model and the transition model. Study subjects were recruited from the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital who scored 8 points or above in the Hamilton depression rating scale on their first medical examination. The linear mixed effects model and the transition model were fitted using the Hamilton depression rating scales measured at the baseline, six month, and twelve month follow-ups. Then, Hamilton depression rating scale at the twenty-four month follow-up was predicted using these models. The prediction models were then evaluated by comparing the observed and predicted Hamilton depression rating scales on the twenty-four month follow-up.

The purposes of this study were to find the correlation between daily life conflicts, depression, social support, family resilience and marital happiness, and to explore the mediating role of family resilience between daily life conflicts, depression and marital happiness. The subjects of the survey were 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. The instruments included Jang (2007)'s Daily Life Conflict, Shin (2001)'s Mental Health Scale, Yu (2004)'s Family Health Scale, and Natham et al. (1973)'s Marital Happiness Scale. The major findings were as follows: Daily life conflicts and depression were negatively correlated with family resilience and marital happiness. Family resilience was positively correlated with marital happiness. Family resilience mediated the effects of daily life conflicts, depression and marital happiness. Daily life conflicts and depression influenced family resilience. In conclusion, in order to build family resilience it is important to intervene in intermarried Korean men's marital happiness through special education programs and counseling.
