Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate third and forth year dental students' perception towards dental hygienists as professionals. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 602 dental college students in Korea after receiving the informed consent. Except incomplete answers, 217 data were analyzed. The questionnaire consisted of three questions of the general perception towards dental hygienists, four questions of the cooperation relationship to the dental hygienists, four questions of oral health education, five questions of preventive dental health care, five questions of dental treatment cooperation, and five questions of dental health care management. The data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0(SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: Most of the dental college students viewed the dental hygienists as professionals. However, they did not exactly know the professional job of dental hygienists within the current national medical services system and they often viewed the dental hygienists as a medical assistant. The dental college students thought that the key role of the dental hygienists is the dental assisting. Only a small fraction of the participants recognized oral health promotion, preventive cares, and hospital management as professional roles of dental hygienists. Conclusions : Dental college students' perception towards dental hygienists as professionals needs to be improved. Understanding the job description of dental hygienists clearly is a crucial part of dental students' learning process and future practice.
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the adaptation to college life of dental hygiene students. Methods: A total of 300 students in the 3-year course, and 200 students in the 4-year course at the Department of Dental Hygiene, were selected. A self-reported questionnaire was used between 27th June and 31st August 2017. From this, 439 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. Results: 1. The overall degree of adaptation to college life, according to varied general characteristics of the subject students, appeared to show that male students had a higher degree of adaptation than female students. It also appeared to be higher in students that had a higher level of academic accomplishment(<0.001). 2. The average score of the degree of adaptation to college life was 2.57 points(full score of 4.00 points). Social adaption had the highest score of 2.92 points, while academic adaptation had the lowest score of 2.37 points. Regarding the subordinate domains of adaptation to college life, the average score of attachment adaptation of students in the 3-year course of the Department of Dental Hygiene(2.69 points) appeared to be higher than that of students in the 4-year course(2.52 points). The difference between these scores was statistically significant(p=0.001). 3. The effects of varied academic systems upon the degree of adaptation to college life were also analyzed. Emotional and attachment adaptation to college, as well as the academic accomplishment of students in the 3-year course, was distributed over a range of 3.0~3.5. This was significantly different compared to students in the 4-year course(p<0.05). Conclusion: It is necessary to develop stepwise and continuous educational programs to enable better college life adaptation for students in the Department of Dental Hygiene.
Purpose: This study aims to examine the influence of personality types on recovery resilience and college life adjustment among dental technology students. Methods: The study recruited 165 students in colleges in some areas using convenience sampling. Data were processed through reliability analysis, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and correlation analysis. Moreover, linear regression analysis was performed to confirm the influence. Results: The results confirmed that the motivation for selecting a department exerted an effect on adaptation to college life and satisfaction with majors (p<0.05). Additionally, the finding indicated that personality type partially influenced resilience and adaptation to college life among dental technology students (p<0.05). Finally, the results of regression analysis on adaptation to college life found that resilience and satisfaction with majors were significant predictors of adaptation to college life (p<0.05). Conclusion: To improve adaptation to college life, increasing resilience and satisfaction with majors is necessary.

An independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were employed, and a stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. Results: Regarding the influential factors of satisfaction with clinical practice among dental hygiene students, in the case of college students, dental hygienist practice instructor dummy, self-efficacy, satisfaction of school life, interpersonal relation was the increasing order. In the case of university students, dental hygienist practice instructors, subjective health, satisfaction with school life, and interpersonal relations was the increasing order. As to scaling experience and gingival bleeding, the dental hygiene students had more scaling experiences(p<0.001), and the other majors who underwent gingival bleeding from time to time outnumbered the dental hygiene students who did(p<0.01). 4. In relation to subjective oral health status, the dental hygiene students found themselves to be in better oral health than the other majors(p<0.001), and the latter had more parts of the mouth in which they didn't feel well than the former(p<0.01). The dental hygiene students were more concerned about their oral health(p<0.001) and felt more uncomfortable in chewing(p<0.05). The other majors felt more uncomfortable in pronunciation(p<0.01). Materials and Methods: A total of 610 undergraduate and postgraduate students of dental college, were included in this study. The questionnaire was pretested for validation and distributed online through Google forms. Results: A pairwise comparison showed that the percentage of correct answers for interns significantly differed from that of IV Bachelor of Dental Surgery (P=0.050) and postgraduate students (P=0.048) (below average: up to 6 correct answers, good: 7-11 correct answers, excellent: 12 or more correct answers). Conclusion: TMJ diseases are common in daily life but frequently go undiagnosed and untreated due to a lack of clinical expertise. This demonstrates the necessity of providing instructions that give students in-depth knowledge and abilities for TMJ issues in clinical practice.
