  • Numerous wearable technology companies have recently developed several headmounted display (HMD) products for virtual reality (VR) services. 5G wireless networks aim at providing high-quality 3D multimedia services such as VR, augmented reality, and mixed reality. In this study, we examine the application of millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology to realize low-latency wireless communication between an HMD and its content server. However, the propagation characteristics of mmWave present several challenges such as the deafness, blockage, and beam alignment problems, and interference among content servers. In this study, we focus on an environment that provides VR services in the mmWave band and introduce existing techniques for addressing such challenges. In addition, we employ a commercialized IEEE 802.11ad VR dongle to measure the actual data rate of an mmWave VR application and identify the degree to which the performance deteriorates when the above problems occur. Finally, we verify the feasibility of the proposed solutions through a simulation of several VR scenarios in the mmWave band.

  • The liquid crystal display (LCD) applications treated on the organic overcoat thin film surfaces by ion beam irradiation was successfully studied. The good LC aligning capabilities treated on the organic overcoat thin film surfaces with ion beam exposure of $60^{\circ}$ for 2 min above ion beam energy of 1200 eV can be achieved. But, the alignment of defect of NLC on the organic overcoat surface at low energy of 600 eV was measured. The pretilt angle of NLC on the organic overcoat thin film surface with ion beam exposure of $60^{\circ}$ for 2 min at energy of 1800 eV was measured about 1 degree. Finally, the good thermal stability of LC alignment on the organic overcoat thin film surface with ion beam exposure of $60^{\circ}$ for 2 min until annealing temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ can be measured.

  • The present study was focused on the analysis of the electric and thermal properties of spark plasma sintered $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$ thermoelectric material. The crystal structure, microstructure, electric and thermal properties of the sintered body were evaluated by measuring XRD, SEM, electric resistivity, Hall effect and thermal conductivity. The $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$ sintered body showed anisotropic crystal structure. The c-axis of the $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$ crystal aligned in a parallel direction with applied pressure during spark plasma sintering. The degree of the crystal alignment increased with increasing sintering temperature and sintering time. The electric resistivity and thermal conductivity of the $Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$ sintered body showed anisotropic characteristics result from crystal alignment.

  • This paper presents a high-speed automatic micro-alignment system that is a part of an inspection machine for small-sized molded lenses of mobile phones, palm-top computers, and so on. This work was motivated by the shortcomings of existing highest-grade commercial machine. A simple tip/tilt/Z parallel mechanism is designed based on kinematic couplings, which is a 3-degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) moderate-cost alignment stage. It is used to automatically adjust the posture of each lens on the tray, which is impossible by the conventional instrument. Amplified piezoelectric actuators are used to ensure the accuracy and dynamic response. Forward kinematic analysis and simulation show that the parasitic motion is small enough compared to the actuator stroke. From the workspace analysis of the moving platform, it is clear that the output motion range satisfies the design requirements.

  • After introducing Hybrid Bonding technology into image sensors using stacked sensors and image processors, large quantity production became possible. As a result, it is currently used in most of the CMOS image market in smartphones and other image-based devices worldwide, and almost all stacked CIS manufacturing sites have focused on miniaturization using hybrid bonding. In this study, an upper wafer handling module for Wafer to Wafer Hybrid Bonding developed to increase the alignment and precision between wafers when wafer bonding. The module was divided two parts to reduce error of both the alignment and degree of precision during wafer bonding. Wafer handling module developed both new Tip/Tilt system controlling θx,θy of upper wafer and striker to push upper wafer. Based on this, it was confirmed through the stability evaluation that the upper wafer handling module can be controlled without any problem during W2W hybrid bonding.

  • Skeletal malocclusion is the result of abnormal dimension and alignment of each skeletal component. Understanding on these mechanisms may help to elucidate the etiology of skeletal malocclusion and to establish population-oriented treatment plans. Attempts to subdivide the Angle's classification have been performed for Class III malocclusion, while few studies have been conducted for Class II malocclusion despite recent growing interests in Class II malocclusion. 200 adults (88 male, 112 female) with skeletal Class II malocclusion were collected and subdivided using cluster analysis, using the measurements representing the dimension and the alignment of each facial skeletal component. The properties of each cluster was grouped within the subjects and a comparison between the subjects and the control group (38 male, 35 female) with normal occlusion was performed. Six clusters were finally recognized in each male and female groups. The clusters in both genders were mainly characterized by the cranial base alignment, dimension of the posterior cranial base, dimension of the mandibular ramus and the degree of mandibular rotation. The results implicate that active treatment of mandible rather than the nasomaxillary complex may be primarily considered for the correction of Korean Class II skeletal pattern.

  • In this study magnetic properties of anisotropic ferrite bonded magnets produced by extrusion molding with a variety of magnetic field, extrusion mold temperature and extrusion rate were investigated. X-ray diffraction study showed the alignment of magnetic powder was decreased by molten flow in extrusion mold. When the temperature of extrusion mold was $20^{\circ}C$, the degree of alignment as much as 82% could be achieved under the applied magnetic field of 4 kOe. The bonded magnets having the remanence of 2.2 kG was able to fabricated by extrusion molding when the packing density of Sr-ferrite powder was 50 vol%.

  • Dust polarization depends on the physical and mechanical properties of dust, as well as the properties of local environments. To understand how dust polarization varies with grain mechanical properties and the local environment, in this paper, we model the wavelength-dependence polarization of starlight and polarized dust emission by aligned grains by simultaneously taking into account grain alignment and rotational disruption by radiative torques (RATs). We explore a wide range of the local radiation field and grain mechanical properties characterized by tensile strength. We find that the maximum polarization and the peak wavelength shift to shorter wavelengths as the radiation strength U increases due to the enhanced alignment of small grains. Grain rotational disruption by RATs tends to decrease the optical-near infrared polarization but increases the ultraviolet polarization of starlight due to the conversion of large grains into smaller ones. In particular, we find that the submillimeter (submm) polarization degree at 850㎛(P850) does not increase monotonically with the radiation strength or grain temperature (Td), but it depends on the tensile strength of grain materials. Our physical model of dust polarization can be tested with observations toward star-forming regions or molecular clouds irradiated by a nearby star, which have higher radiation intensity than the average interstellar radiation field. Finally, we compare our predictions of the P850-Td relationship with Planck data and find that the observed decrease of P850 with Td can be explained when grain disruption by RATs is accounted for, suggesting that interstellar grains unlikely to have a compact structure but perhaps a composite one. The variation of the submm polarization with U (or Td)can provide a valuable constraint on the internal structures of cosmic dust

  • The road should be designed in the consistent alignment which the driver can drive safely. Also, proper highway environments in order to maintain optimal operational speeds on highway sections should be provided In design stage, for highway environments, it is essential for an operational speed estimation model to different highway environments. If a method which could evaluate the status of the road safety is developed through this operational speed estimation model, it is possible to provide safe and more comfortable highways to road users. In the study factors to effect on operational speeds are classified into three groups horizontal & vertical alignments and traffic operation characteristic factors. Factors are chosen to effect on operational speeds by using collation analysis as classifications of tangent sections, horizontal curve sections and vertical curve sections. In order to develop operational speed estimation models in express highways, multi-regression analysis has been used in this study using the selected factors. This study has meaning that the developed estimation models for operational speeds and evaluation of degree of safety to horizontal and vortical alignments simultaneous. In order to represent whole area of the country with the developed models, the models should be re-analyzed with vast data related with road alignment factors in the near future.

  • In modern ships, the shafting system often becomes stiff owing to the high engine power, whereas the hull structure becomes more flexible owing to optimization using high-tensile-strength thick steel plates; therefore, more sophisticated shaft alignments are required. In this study, strain gauge-based measurement was conducted under five vessel operating conditions and bearing reaction forces and hull deflections affecting shaft alignment were analyzed for a 50,000 dead weight tonnage oil/chemical tanker that has gained repute as an eco-friendly vessel in recent years. Furthermore, the analytical results from each technique-theoretical calculation, jacking ups, and strain gauges-were cross-checked against each other in order to enhance the degree of accuracy and reliability of the calculation.
