  • We present a frame synchronization algorithm for lowdensity parity-check (LDPC) coded burst transmissions, which combines a conventional pilots-assisted frame synchronization algorithm and a code-aided algorithm based on the mean magnitude of the soft outputs from the LDPC decoder. With moderate computational complexity, the proposed algorithm is more efficient in bandwidth than conventional pilots-assisted algorithms. When compared with other code-aided algorithms, the proposed algorithm offers a better trade-off between complexity and performance. Simulation results in the case of an 8-PSK system with (1944, 972) LDPC code show that the proposed algorithm can achieve a performance equivalent to that of the perfect frame synchronization, with a bandwidth efficiency loss of 0.06 dB due to the use of pilot symbols.

  • Thermal batteries are reserve batteries with molten salts as an electrolyte, which activates at high temperature. Due to their excellent reliability, long shelf life, and mechanical robustness, thermal batteries are used in military applications. A high-performance cathode for thermal batteries should be considered in terms of its high capacity, high voltage, and high thermal stability. Research progress on cathode materials from the recent decade is reviewed in this article. The major directions of research were surface modification, compounding of existing materials, fabrication of thin film cathode, and development of new materials. In order to develop a high-performance cathode, a proper combination of these research directions is required while considering mass production and cost.

  • In this paper, This study shows the content on the impact fuze test and the measurement using underwater explosion phenomena. The impact fuze has both a delay function and a super quick. Up to now, nothing but the naked eye of the observer has been used to verify performance of the impact fuze. The observer has determined the performance by the shape of the plume created from the explosion phenomenon. However, it is extremely difficult to use that method at a long range. In order to solve the problem, the measurement using the underwater explosion phenomena was tried.

  • In this paper, we suggest the tracking method of moving multi-objects in maritime environments. The image acquisition is conducted using IR(InfraRed) camera sensors on an airborne platform. Under the circumstance of maritime, the qualities of IR images can be significantly degraded due to the clutter influence, which directly gives rise to a tracking loss problem. In order to reduce the effects from the clutters, we introduce a technical approach under Man-In-The-Loop(MITL) system for enhancing the tracking performance. To demonstrate the robustness of the proposed approach based on VTG(Valid Tracking Gate), the simulations are conducted utilizing the airborne IR video sequences: Then, the tracking performances are compared with the existing Kalman Filter tracking techniques.

  • Semantic segmentation in autonomous driving for unstructured environments is challenging due to the presence of uneven terrains, unstructured class boundaries, irregular features and strong textures. Current off-road datasets exhibit difficulties like class imbalance and understanding of varying environmental topography. To overcome these issues, we propose a deep learning framework for semantic segmentation that involves a pooled class semantic segmentation with five classes. The evaluation of the framework is carried out on two off-road driving datasets, RUGD and TAS500. The results show that our proposed method achieves high accuracy and real-time performance.

  • In this paper, w-band frequency synthesizer was developed for frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensors. To achieve a small size and high performance, We designed and manufactured w-band MMIC chips such as up-converter one-chip, multiplier, DA (Drive Amplifier) MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit), etc. And interposer technology was applied between the W-band multiplier and the DA MMIC chip. As a result, the measured phase noise was -106.10 dBc@1MHz offset, and the frequency switching time of the frequency synthesizer was less than 0.1 usec. Compared with the w-band frequency synthesizer using purchased chips, the developed frequency synthesizer showed better performance.

  • Real-time control communication network system is important for developing defense robots because it affects environmental interaction, performance, and safety. We propose a real-time control communication network using the Xenomai real-time operating system and the open-source EtherCAT master library, SOEM. EtherCAT is an Ethernet-based industrial communication method. It has low latency and many functions such as cable redundancy and distributed clock synchronization. We use Xenomai RTOS and Intel NUC to develop the system. Experimental tests demonstrate the Real-time EtherCAT master implementation, and communication with CiA301-based slave devices. The jitter measurement was conducted to validate the real-time performance of the system. The proposed system shows possibility for real-time robotics applications in various defense robots.

  • By deriving the limitations of the test evaluation, it was intended to suggest a plan to improve the test evaluation system for the appropriateness of the number of ship crews according to the design and construction of troops-saving ships. Currently, the number of crew members by ship type is confirmed and specified in the ROC(Operation Requirement Performance) in the early stages of design, such as conceptual design, but there is a limit to testing and evaluating the appropriateness of ensuring reliability of combat performance.

  • In this study, the methodology of determination of base bleed motor data for base bleed projectile based on the NATO standard trajectory model, especially STANAG 4355 Method 2 were presented. Ground combustion experiments and aerodynamic performance firing tests were conducted to determine the drag reduction motor data of the base bleed projectile and this data was described based on the NATO standard ballistic model. The derived drag reduction motor data were input into the ballistic equations to complete the ballistic model and it was confirmed that the calculated predicted trajectory from the ballistic model matched well with the measured trajectory from the aerodynamic performance firing tests.

  • Deep learning models require high computing power due to a substantial amount of computation. It is difficult to use them in devices with limited computing environments, such as coastal surveillance equipments. In this study, a lightweight model is constructed by analyzing the weight changes of the convolutional layers during the training process based on MobileNet and then pruning the layers that affects the model less. The performance comparison results show that the lightweight model maintains performance while reducing computational load, parameters, model size, and data processing speed. As a result of this study, an effective pruning method for constructing lightweight deep learning models and the possibility of using equipment resources efficiently through lightweight models in limited computing environments such as coastal surveillance equipments are presented.
