  • Five dam-break floodwave models are t재 field data sets. The models included FLDWAV, SMPDBK, HEC-1, Tr66, and HEC Dimensionless Graph. The field data sets documented the disasters at Teton dam, and Yeunchun dam. The FLDWAV results are uesd to test the sensitivity of the floodwave to variations in Manning's roughness coefficient, breach size, and bottom slope. The HEC-1 analysis includes testing the sensitivity of the results to model parameters. The TR66 model and FLDWAV, with channel routing by TR66 in both cases. SMPDBK and the Dimensionless Graph procedure are applied without particular difficulties being encountered in both real world cases. It is necessary to analyze numerical limit of existing numerical models and then to apply the relatively accurate numerical model in real basin. It is found that FLDWAV model is superior in numerical accuracy and stability to any other model. This study will contribute to improve defect of numerical models and develop more precise numerical model for a efficient and rapid dam breach flood disaster predict.

  • The ferroelectricity in emerging fluorite-structure oxides such as HfO2 and ZrO2 has attracted increasing interest since 2011. Different from conventional ferroelectrics, the fluorite-structure ferroelectrics could be reliably scaled down below 10 nm thickness with established atomic layer deposition technique. However, defects such as carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen atoms in fluorite-structure ferroelectrics are reported to strongly affect the nanoscale polymorphism and resulting ferroelectricity. The characteristic nanoscale polymorphism and resulting ferroelectricity in fluorite-structure oxides have been reported to be influenced by defect concentration. Moreover, the conduction of charge carriers through fluorite-structure ferroelectrics is affected by impurities. In this review, the origin and effects of various kinds of defects are reviewed based on existing literature.

  • According as society looks graying trend gradually, more shaped system that can achieve measuring health-state of old people more harmoniously construction required in field of old people's welfare and medical treatment. Health-state is measured by two methods of contact and non-contact. The first, for example measurement of blood pressure or electrocardiogram, requires that measuring equipments are attached on human body but the second, for example X-Ray or MRI, is not. But both of methods are have some of defect, for example attaching equipments, needing of the special equipments or the necessary time, etc. Therefore desirable method of monitoring system must have minimum interrupt about daily life. This study suggest the system that can monitor the user, especially old people's outward aging and health-state by use the PAN TILTER and CCD camera.

  • A 3D transient heat transfer model is developed by ABAQUS software to study the temperature distribution during friction stir welding process at different rotational speeds. Furthermore, AA 5083-O plates were joined by FSW technique. For this purpose, a universal milling machine was used to perform the welding process and a mechanical vice was used to fix the work pieces in the proper position. The joints were friction stir welded at a constant travel speed 50 mm/min and two rotational speed values; 400 rpm and 630 rpm using two types of tools; cylindrical threaded pin and tapered smooth one. At each welding condition the temperature was measured using infra-red thermal image camera to verify the simulated temperature distribution. The welded joints were visually inspected as well as by macro- and microstructure evolutions. In addition, the welded joints were mechanically tested for hardness and tensile strength. The maximum peak temperature obtained was at higher rotational speed using the threaded tool pin profile. The results showed that the rotational speed affects the peak temperature, defects formation and sizes, and the mechanical properties of friction stir welded joints. Moreover, the threaded tool gives superior mechanical properties than the tapered one at lower rotational speed.

  • To study the characteristics of AC driven OLED, we fabricated the fluorescent OLEDs and analyzed the electroluminescence characteristics of OLEDs with AC negative voltage. The luminance and the current density of the OLED decreased, and the number and size of the dark spots increased in proportion to the duration time and level of the applied AC negative voltage. The current efficiency of the OLED was improved when high AC negative voltage was applied within a short time. When the AC negative voltage of 10 V was applied for 1 minute, the efficiency was improved by 12.4%. Also, the degradation of luminance and current efficiency due to the duration of light emission was improved in the case of OLED applied for 1 minute with 10 V AC negative voltage. These are expected as a result of the improvement of the leakage current characteristics by eliminating the short-circuit region formed by the defect of the OLED at the AC negative high voltage. As a result, the continuous application of AC negative voltage reduced the luminance and the current density of OLED, but the temporary application of AC negative voltage with the proper time and voltage could improve the efficiency and lifetime of OLED.

  • The cracking at the transverse diaphragm cutout is one of the most severe fatigue failures threatening orthotropic steel decks (OSDs), whose mechanisms and crack treatment techniques have not been fully studied. In this paper, full-scale experiments were first performed to investigate the fatigue performance of polished cutouts involving the effect of an artificial geometrical defect. Following this, comparative experimental testing for defective cutouts strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) was carried out. Numerical finite element analysis was also performed to verify and explain the experimental observations. Results show that the combinative effect of the wheel load and thermal residual stress constitutes the external driving force for the fatigue cracking of the cutout. Initial geometrical defects are confirmed as a critical factor affecting the fatigue cracking. The principal stress 6 mm away from the free edge of the cutout can be adopted as the nominal stress of the cutout during fatigue evaluation, and the fatigue resistance of polished cutouts is higher than Grade A in AASHTO specification. The bonded CFRP system is highly effective in extending the fatigue life of the defective cutouts. The present study provides some new insights into the fatigue evaluation and repair of OSDs.

  • As the demand for the Internet of Things grows, research into indoor photovoltaics for wireless power is becoming important. In particular, perovskite has attracted considerable attention due to its superior performance compared to other candidates. However, various surface defects present in perovskite are a limiting factor for high performance. In particular, deep-level surface defects caused by uncoordinated Pb2+ ions directly limit charge transport. In low light environments, this appears to be a more significant hurdle. In this study, ethylenediamine, which can provide covalent bonding to uncoordinated Pb2+ ions through nitrogen, was used as a surface treatment material for indoor photovoltaics. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed that the uncoordinated Pb2+ ions were effectively passivated by the terminal nitrogen of ethylenediamine. As a consequence, a VOC of 0.998 V, a JSC of 0.139 mA cm-2 and a fill factor of 83.03% were achieved, resulting in an indoor photoelectric conversion efficiency of 38.02%.

  • We investigated the void formation in composite-titanium silicide($TiSi_2$) process. We varied the process conditions of polycrystalline/amorphous silicon substrate, composite $TiSi_2$ deposition temperature, and silicidation annealing temperature. We report that the main reason for void formation is the mass transport flux discrepancy of amorphous silicon substrate and titanium in composite layer. Sheet resistance in composite $TiSi_2$ without patterns is mainly affected by silicidation rapid thermal annealing (RTA) temperature. In addition, sheet resistance does not depend on the void defect density. Sheet resistance with sub-0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ patterns increase abnormally above $850^{\circ}C$ due to agglomeration. Our results imply that $sub-750^{\circ}C$ annealing is appropriate for sub 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ composite X$sub-750_2$ process.

  • Focal cortical dysplasia type II (FCDII) is a focal malformation of the developing cerebral cortex and the major cause of intractable epilepsy. However, since the molecular genetic etiology of FCD has remained enigmatic, the effective therapeutic target for this condition has remained poorly understood. Our recent study on FCD utilizing various deep sequencing platforms identified somatic mutations in MTOR (existing as low as 1% allelic frequency) only in the affected brain tissues. We observed that these mutations induced hyperactivation of the mTOR kinase. In addition, focal cortical expression of mutant MTOR using in utero electroporation in mice, recapitulated the neuropathological features of FCDII, such as migration defect, cytomegalic neuron and spontaneous seizures. Furthermore, seizures and dysmorphic neurons were rescued by the administration of mTOR inhibitor, rapamycin. This study provides the first evidence that brain somatic activating mutations in MTOR cause FCD, and suggests the potential drug target for intractable epilepsy in FCD patients.
