  • COVID-19 has remained one of the most serious health crises in recent history, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and significant economic impacts on the entire world. The difficulty of controlling COVID-19 poses a threat to the global health sector. Considering that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has contributed to improving research methods and solving problems facing diverse fields of study, AI algorithms have also proven effective in disease detection and early diagnosis. Specifically, acoustic features offer a promising prospect for the early detection of respiratory diseases. Motivated by these observations, this study conceptualized a speech-based diagnostic model to aid in COVID-19 diagnosis. The proposed methodology uses speech signals from confirmed positive and negative cases of COVID-19 to extract features through the pre-trained Visual Geometry Group (VGG-16) model based on Mel spectrogram images. This is used in addition to the K-means algorithm that determines effective features, followed by a Genetic Algorithm-Support Vector Machine (GA-SVM) classifier to classify cases. The experimental findings indicate the proposed methodology's capability to classify COVID-19 and NOT COVID-19 of varying ages and speaking different languages, as demonstrated in the simulations. The proposed methodology depends on deep features, followed by the dimension reduction technique for features to detect COVID-19. As a result, it produces better and more consistent performance than handcrafted features used in previous studies.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for performance enhancement of speech declipping using clipping detector. Clipping occurs when the input speech level exceeds the dynamic range of microphone, and it significantly degrades the speech quality. Recently, many methods for high-performance speech declipping based on machine learning have been developed. However, they often deteriorate the speech signal because of degradation in signal reconstruction process when the degree of clipping is not high. To solve this problem, we propose a new approach that combines the declipping network and clipping detector, which enables a selective declipping operation depending on the clipping level and provides high-quality speech in all clipping levels. We measured the declipping performance using various metrics and confirmed that the proposed method improves the average performance over all clipping levels, compared with the conventional methods, and greatly improves the performance when the clipping distortion is small.

  • Forecasting volatility is essential to avoiding the risk caused by the uncertainties of an financial asset. Complicated financial volatility features such as ambiguity between non-stationarity and stationarity, asymmetry, long-memory, sudden fairly large values like outliers bring great challenges to volatility forecasts. In order to address such complicated features implicity, we consider machine leaning models such as LSTM (1997) and GRU (2014), which are known to be suitable for existing time series forecasting. However, there are the problems of vanishing gradients, of enormous amount of computation, and of a huge memory. To solve these problems, a causal temporal convolutional network (TCN) model, an advanced form of 1D CNN, is also applied. It is confirmed that the overall forecasting power of TCN model is higher than that of the RNN models in forecasting VIX, VXD, and VXN, the daily volatility indices of S&P 500, DJIA, Nasdaq, respectively.

  • Super-resolution is the process of converting a low-quality image into a high-quality image. This study was conducted using ESPCN. In a super-resolution deep neural network, different quality images can be output even when receiving the same input data according to the activation function that determines the weight when passing through each node. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find the most suitable activation function for super-resolution by applying the activation functions ReLU, ELU, and Swish and compare the quality of the output image for the same input images. The CelebaA Dataset was used as the dataset. Images were cut into a square during the pre-processing process then the image quality was lowered. The degraded image was used as the input image and the original image was used for evaluation. As a result, ELU and swish took a long time to train compared to ReLU, which is mainly used for machine learning but showed better performance.

  • The cumulative registration status of dogs is from 1.07 million in 2016 to 2.32 million in 2020. Animal registration is increasing by more than 10% every year, and accordingly, a name must be decided when registering a dog. We want to give a name that fits the characteristics of a dog's appearance, but there are many difficulties in naming it. This paper explains the development of a system for recognizing dog images and recommends dog names based on similar objects or food. This system extracts similarities with dogs' images through models that learn images of various objects and foods, and recommends dog names based on similarities. In addition, by recommending additional related words based on the image data of the result value, it was possible to provide users with various options, increase convenience, and increase interest and fun. Through this system, it is expected that users will be able to solve their concerns about naming their dogs, check names that suit their dogs comfortably, and give them various options through various recommended names to increase satisfaction.

  • Gastrointestinal cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignant tumor of the digestive system that poses a severe health risk to humans. Due to the specific organ structure of the gastrointestinal system, both endoscopic and MRI diagnoses of GIC have limited sensitivity. The primary factors influencing curative efficacy in GIC patients are drug inefficacy and high recurrence rates in surgical and pharmacological therapy. Due to its unique optical features, good biocompatibility, surface effects, and small size effects, nanotechnology is a developing and advanced area of study for the detection and treatment of cancer. Because of its deep location and complex surgery, diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal cancer is very difficult. The early diagnosis and urgent treatment of gastrointestinal illness are enabled by nanotechnology. As diagnostic and therapeutic tools, nanoparticles directly target tumor cells, allowing their detection and removal. XGBoost was used as a classification method known for achieving numerous winning solutions in data analysis competitions, to capture nonlinear relations among many input variables and outcomes using the boosting approach to machine learning. The research sample included 300 GC patients, comprising 190 males (72.2% of the sample) and 110 women (27.8%). Using convolutional neural networks (CNN) and artificial neural networks (ANN)-EXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), the patients mean± SD age was 50.42 ± 13.06. High-risk behaviors (P = 0.070), age at diagnosis (P = 0.037), distant metastasis (P = 0.004), and tumor stage (P = 0.015) were shown to have a statistically significant link with GC patient survival. AUC was 0.92, sensitivity was 81.5%, specificity was 90.5%, and accuracy was 84.7 when analyzing stomach picture.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for accurately and rapidly detecting defects in wire harnesses by utilizing computer vision to calculate six crucial measurement values: the length of crimped terminals, the dimensions (width) of terminal ends, and the width of crimped sections (wire and core portions). We employ Harris corner detection to locate object positions from two types of data. Additionally, we generate reference points for extracting measurement values by utilizing features specific to each measurement area and exploiting the contrast in shading between the background and objects, thus reflecting the slope of each sample. Subsequently, we introduce a method using the Euclidean distance and correction coefficients to predict values, allowing for the prediction of measurements regardless of changes in the wire's position. We achieve high accuracy for each measurement type, 99.1%, 98.7%, 92.6%, 92.5%, 99.9%, and 99.7%, achieving outstanding overall average accuracy of 97% across all measurements. This inspection method not only addresses the limitations of conventional visual inspections but also yields excellent results with a small amount of data. Moreover, relying solely on image processing, it is expected to be more cost-effective and applicable with less data compared to deep learning methods.

  • Evaluating the performance of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) stands as a pivotal juncture in the domain of hard rock mechanized tunneling, essential for achieving both a dependable construction timeline and utilization rate. In this investigation, three advanced artificial neural networks namely, gated recurrent unit (GRU), back propagation neural network (BPNN), and simple recurrent neural network (SRNN) were crafted to prognosticate TBM-rate of penetration (ROP). Drawing from a dataset comprising 1125 data points amassed during the construction of the Alborze Service Tunnel, the study commenced. Initially, five geomechanical parameters were scrutinized for their impact on TBM-ROP efficiency. Subsequent statistical analyses narrowed down the effective parameters to three, including uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), peak slope index (PSI), and Brazilian tensile strength (BTS). Among the methodologies employed, GRU emerged as the most robust model, demonstrating exceptional predictive prowess for TBM-ROP with staggering accuracy metrics on the testing subset (R2 = 0.87, NRMSE = 6.76E-04, MAD = 2.85E-05). The proposed models present viable solutions for analogous ground and TBM tunneling scenarios, particularly beneficial in routes predominantly composed of volcanic and sedimentary rock formations. Leveraging forecasted parameters holds the promise of enhancing both machine efficiency and construction safety within TBM tunneling endeavors.
