  • With the recent development of hardware performance and artificial intelligence technology, sophisticated fake videos that are difficult to distinguish with the human's eye are increasing. Face synthesis technology using artificial intelligence is called Deepfake, and anyone with a little programming skill and deep learning knowledge can produce sophisticated fake videos using Deepfake. A number of indiscriminate fake videos has been increased significantly, which may lead to problems such as privacy violations, fake news and fraud. Therefore, it is necessary to detect fake video clips that cannot be discriminated by a human eyes. Thus, in this paper, we propose a deep-fake detection model applied with Bidirectional Convolution LSTM and Attention Module. Unlike LSTM, which considers only the forward sequential procedure, the model proposed in this paper uses the reverse order procedure. The Attention Module is used with a Convolutional neural network model to use the characteristics of each frame for extraction. Experiments have shown that the model proposed has 93.5% accuracy and AUC is up to 50% higher than the results of pre-existing studies.

  • In this paper, we have studied tracking as a training stage of considering the position and the scale of a person given its previous position, scale, as well as next and forward image fraction. Unlike other learning methods, CNN is thereby learning combines both time and spatial features from the image for the two consecutive frames. We introduce multiple path ways in CNN to better fuse local and global information. A creative shift-variant CNN architecture is designed so as to alleviate the drift problem when the distracting objects are similar to the target in cluttered environment. Furthermore, we employ CNNs to estimate the scale through the accurate localization of some key points. These techniques are object-independent so that the proposed method can be applied to track other types of object. The capability of the tracker of handling complex situations is demonstrated in many testing sequences. The accuracy of the SVM classifier using the features learnt by the CNN is equivalent to the accuracy of the CNN. This fact confirms the importance of automatically optimized features. However, the computation time for the classification of a person using the convolutional neural network classifier is less than approximately 1/40 of the SVM computation time, regardless of the type of the used features.

  • A construction of infrastructures and base station on the moon could be undertaken by linking with the regions where construction materials and energy could be supplied on site. It is necessary to detect craters on the lunar surface and gather their topological information in advance, which forms permanent shaded regions (PSR) in which rich ice deposits might be available. In this study, an effective method for automatic detection of lunar craters on the moon surface is taken into consideration by employing a latest version of deep-learning algorithm. A training of a deep-learning algorithm is performed by involving the still images of 90000 taken from the LRO orbiter on operation by NASA and the label data involving position and size of partly craters shown in each image. the Faster RCNN algorithm, which is a latest version of deep-learning algorithms, is applied for a deep-learning training. The trained deep-learning code was used for automatic detection of craters which had not been trained. As results, it is shown that a lot of erroneous information for crater's positions and sizes labelled by NASA has been automatically revised and many other craters not labelled has been detected. Therefore, it could be possible to automatically produce regional maps of crater density and topological information on the moon which could be changed through time and should be highly valuable in engineering consideration for lunar construction.

  • In the era of big data, the field of artificial intelligence is showing remarkable growth, and in particular, the image classification learning methods by deep learning are becoming an important area. Various studies have been actively conducted to further improve the performance of CNNs, which have been widely used in image classification, among which a representative method is the Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) algorithm. The CRNN algorithm consists of a combination of CNN for image classification and RNNs for recognizing time series elements. However, since the inputs used in the RNN area of CRNN are the flatten values extracted by applying the convolution and pooling technique to the image, pixel values in the same phase in the image appear in different order. And this makes it difficult to properly learn the sequence of arrangements in the image intended by the RNN. Therefore, this study aims to improve image classification performance by proposing a novel hybrid method of CNN and RNN applying the concepts of encoder and decoder. In this study, the effectiveness of the new hybrid method was verified through various experiments. This study has academic implications in that it broadens the applicability of encoder and decoder concepts, and the proposed method has advantages in terms of model learning time and infrastructure construction costs as it does not significantly increase complexity compared to conventional hybrid methods. In addition, this study has practical implications in that it presents the possibility of improving the quality of services provided in various fields that require accurate image classification.

  • The increasing frequency of wildfires due to climate change is causing extreme loss of life and property. They cause loss of vegetation and affect ecosystem changes depending on their intensity and occurrence. Ecosystem changes, in turn, affect wildfire occurrence, causing secondary damage. Thus, accurate estimation of the areas affected by wildfires is fundamental. Satellite remote sensing is used for forest fire detection because it can rapidly acquire topographic and meteorological information about the affected area after forest fires. In addition, deep learning algorithms such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) and transformer models show high performance for more accurate monitoring of fire-burnt regions. To date, the application of deep learning models has been limited, and there is a scarcity of reports providing quantitative performance evaluations for practical field utilization. Hence, this study emphasizes a comparative analysis, exploring performance enhancements achieved through both model selection and data design. This study examined deep learning models for detecting wildfire-damaged areas using Landsat 8 satellite images in California. Also, we conducted a comprehensive comparison and analysis of the detection performance of multiple models, such as U-Net and High-Resolution Network-Object Contextual Representation (HRNet-OCR). Wildfire-related spectral indices such as normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and normalized burn ratio (NBR) were used as input channels for the deep learning models to reflect the degree of vegetation cover and surface moisture content. As a result, the mean intersection over union (mIoU) was 0.831 for U-Net and 0.848 for HRNet-OCR, showing high segmentation performance. The inclusion of spectral indices alongside the base wavelength bands resulted in increased metric values for all combinations, affirming that the augmentation of input data with spectral indices contributes to the refinement of pixels. This study can be applied to other satellite images to build a recovery strategy for fire-burnt areas.

  • This study was carried out to generate various images of railroad surfaces with random defects as training data to be better at the detection of defects. Defects on the surface of railroads are caused by various factors such as friction between track binding devices and adjacent tracks and can cause accidents such as broken rails, so railroad maintenance for defects is necessary. Therefore, various researches on defect detection and inspection using image processing or machine learning on railway surface images have been conducted to automate railroad inspection and to reduce railroad maintenance costs. In general, the performance of the image processing analysis method and machine learning technology is affected by the quantity and quality of data. For this reason, some researches require specific devices or vehicles to acquire images of the track surface at regular intervals to obtain a database of various railway surface images. On the contrary, in this study, in order to reduce and improve the operating cost of image acquisition, we constructed the 'Defective Railroad Surface Regeneration Model' by applying the methods presented in the related studies of the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). Thus, we aimed to detect defects on railroad surface even without a dedicated database. This constructed model is designed to learn to generate the railroad surface combining the different railroad surface textures and the original surface, considering the ground truth of the railroad defects. The generated images of the railroad surface were used as training data in defect detection network, which is based on Fully Convolutional Network (FCN). To validate its performance, we clustered and divided the railroad data into three subsets, one subset as original railroad texture images and the remaining two subsets as another railroad surface texture images. In the first experiment, we used only original texture images for training sets in the defect detection model. And in the second experiment, we trained the generated images that were generated by combining the original images with a few railroad textures of the other images. Each defect detection model was evaluated in terms of 'intersection of union(IoU)' and F1-score measures with ground truths. As a result, the scores increased by about 10~15% when the generated images were used, compared to the case that only the original images were used. This proves that it is possible to detect defects by using the existing data and a few different texture images, even for the railroad surface images in which dedicated training database is not constructed.

  • The variation of utterance lengths is a representative factor that can degrade the performance of speaker verification systems. To handle this issue, previous studies had attempted to extract speaker features from various branches or to use convolution layers with different receptive fields. Combining the advantages of the previous two approaches for variable-length input, this paper proposes integrated receptive field diversification that extracts speaker features through more diverse receptive field. The proposed method processes the input features by convolutional layers with different receptive fields at multiple time-axis branches, and extracts speaker embedding by dynamically aggregating the processed features according to the lengths of input utterances. The deep neural networks in this study were trained on the VoxCeleb2 dataset and tested on the VoxCeleb1 evaluation dataset that divided into 1 s, 2 s, 5 s, and full-length. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method reduces the equal error rate by 19.7 % compared to the baseline.

  • We are striving to strengthen environmental regulations and reduce household waste in all countries around the world. Korea is also striving for the circulation of energy resources by enacting laws to promote resource saving and recycling. The government has implemented an empty bottle deposit system for the recycling of empty bottles, but there is a limit to the collection through manpower and the reverse vending machine is not localized. In this paper, we propose a recyclable bottle recognition and classification algorithm which is essential in the reverser vending machine to promote energy resource circulation. The proposed algorithm is a complex identification algorithm using OpenCV and CNN(Convolution Neural Network). In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we implement a classification system that operates in an reverse vending machine, so that it can easily acquire information about bottles and reverse vending machine in various devices.

  • Conventional crack detection methods have a problem of consuming a lot of labor, time and cost. To solve these problems, an automatic detection system is needed to detect cracks in images obtained by using vehicles or UAVs(unmanned aerial vehicles). In this paper, we have studied road crack detection with unmanned aerial photographs. Aerial images are generated through preprocessing and labeling to generate morphological information data sets of cracks. The generated data set was applied to the mask R-CNN model to obtain a new model in which various crack information was learned. Experimental results show that the cracks in the proposed aerial image were detected with an accuracy of 73.5% and some of them were predicted in a certain type of crack region.
