  • Infection of Chinook Salmon Embryo (CHSE) cells with IPNV resulted in a significant decrease in intracellular free calcium concentration ([$Ca^{2+}$]i) compared to mock-infected cells. The degree of the decrease in [Ca$^{2+}$]i was dependent on the amount of input virus, and treatment of IPNV-infected CHSE cells with metabolic inhibitors such as cyloheximide cordycepin partially reversed the decrease in [$Ca^{2+}$]i in IPNV-infected cells. Inactiation of PINV with UV also abolished IPNV-induced decrease in [$Ca^{2+}$]i. These data suggest an active role of IPNV in the decrease of [Ca$^{2+}$]i in the infected CHSE cells. The importance of the decrease in [$Ca^{2}$i] could be supported by the finding that the production of IPNV plaques increased in the cells treated with verapamil, a calcium influex blocker, and by lowering the concentration of extracellular calcium. Decreased production of IPNV plaques was observed by elevating the extracellular calcium. Thus, it is suggested that IPNV induced a decreased in [$Ca^{2+}$]i and the decrease in [$Ca^{2+}$]i may plan an importat role in efficient replication of IPNV.ation of IPNV.

  • Obesity, an intractable metabolic disease, currently has no medical treatment without side effects, so studies have been actively carried out to find natural compounds that have anti-obesity activity with minimum side effects. In this study, the anti-obesity effects of water extracts of seven Capsicum annuum L. varieties being Putgochu (Pca), Oyee gochu (Oca), Kwari putgochu (Kca), Green pepper (Gca), Yellow paprika (Yca), Red paprika (Rca) and Cheongyang gochu (Cca), were examined through the evaluation of lipoprotein lipase (LPL) mRNA expression level in 3T3-L1 cells (mouse pre-adipocytes). After capsaicin elimination by chloroform defatting, freeze-dried powder of Cca was treated to 3T3-L1 cells and anti-obesity effects were examined by determining the LPL mRNA level using the RT-PCR method. Of the primary fractions, only proven fractions underwent secondary and tertiary refractionating to determine anti-obesity effects. From seven different Capsicum annuum L., there was a significant decrease of the LPL mRNA expression level of 50.9% in Cca treatment compared to the control group. A significant decrease of the LPL mRNA expression level was shown in primary fractions (Fr) 5 (36.2% decrease) and 6 (30.5% decrease) of the Cca water extracts. Due to the impurities checked by UPLC chromatography, Fr 5 and 6 were refractionated to determine the LPL mRNA expression level. Treatment of Fr 6-6 (35.8% decrease) and Fr 5-6 (35.3% decrease) showed a significant decrease in the LPL mRNA expression level. When analyzed using UPLC, major compounds of Fr 6-6 and Fr 5-6 were very similar. Subsequently, we refractionated Fr 6-6 and Fr 5-6 to isolate the major peak for structure elucidation. Treatment of Fr 5-6-1 (26.6% decrease) and Fr 6-6-1 (29.7% decrease) showed a significant decrease in the LPL mRNA expression level. Consequently, the fractions may have a possibility to ameliorate obesity through the decrease of the LPL mRNA expression level.

  • Here we evaluated the effect of using water retentive pavement or WRP made from fly ash as material for main street in a real city block. We coupled computational fluid dynamics and pavement transport (CFD-PT) model to examine energy balance in the building canopies and ground surface. Two cases of 24 h unsteady analysis were simulated: case 1 where asphalt was used as the pavement material of all ground surfaces and case 2 where WRP was used as main street material. We aim to (1) predict diurnal variation in air temperature, wind speed, ground surface temperature and water content; and (2) compare ground surface energy fluxes. Using the coupled CFD-PT model it was proven that WRP as pavement material for main street can cause a decrease in ground surface temperature. The most significant decrease occurred at 1200 JST when solar radiation was most intense, surface temperature decreased by $13.8^{\circ}C$. This surface temperature decrease also led to cooling of air temperature at 1.5 m above street surface. During this time, air temperature in case 2 decreased by $0.28^{\circ}C$. As the radiation weakens from 1600 JST to 2000 JST, evaporative cooling had also been minimal. Shadow effect, higher albedo and lower thermal conductivity of WRP also contributed to surface temperature decrease. The cooling of ground surface eventually led to air temperature decrease. The degree of air temperature decrease was proportional to the surface temperature decrease. In terms of energy balance, WRP caused a maximum increase in latent heat flux by up to $255W/m^2$ and a decrease in sensible heat flux by up to $465W/m^2$.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the level of concern and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors, and the level of dietary behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors, to determine the factors affecting the level of knowledge and behaviors, and to assess the causal relationship between them. The data were collected from 579 adults in Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan and Gwangju provinces. Frequencies, t tests, analysis of variance, Cronbach's alpha, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, multiple regression analyses, and path analysis were carried out by SPSS for Win V.18.0. The results of this study were as follows: The level of concern about endocrine disruptors was higher than the medium level. The respondents were most concerned about a container of cup ramen among products related to foods. The levels of both knowledge and behaviors in order to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life were not high. The factors affecting the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors were educational level, attendance in education for endocrine disruptors, and concern about endocrine disruptors. On the other hand, sex, age, concern about endocrine disruptors, and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors affected the level of behaviors to decrease exposure toward endocrine disruptors. The results of the path analysis showed that educational level and education of endocrine disruptors had an indirect influence on the level of behaviors in order to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life. The concern about endocrine disruptors had both a direct and an indirect effect on the level of behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life. In addition, sex, age and the level of knowledge of endocrine disruptors directly affected the level of behaviors to decrease exposure to endocrine disruptors in dietary life.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out how different types of land use around green belts affect temperature decrease effects. For this, temperatures within and outside of green belts were measured. Based on the collected data, the study analyzed the land cover status and temperatures within green belts, temperature decrease effects and the range of effects around green belts, and the correlation between trees and temperature decrease effects by way of regression analysis. As a result, areas of the high temperature within green belts were formed on paved surfaces, whereas areas of low temperature were formed around forests or water surfaces. In addition, deviation was bigger in the highest temperature than the lowest one for areas of Leeward around green belts, but in general, there was a tendency that temperature became low near to green belts. As for the relation between land cover rate and temperature, what was effective to temperature decrease included forests, pasture and water surfaces. On the other hand, the effects of temperature decrease varied depending on increase or decrease of land cover rates. As for the influence of the different land use types around green belts on temperature decrease effects, the Shakuzi Park showed relatively stronger effects than the Ageomaruyama Park.

  • This study is intended to devolop the self waterproof agents for high performance concrete by analyzing the properties of fresh and hardened mortar with various addition ratios of the inorganic admixture and zinc stearate. As the results of the test, the flow and air content increase with the addition of expansive additives. When the replacement rate of silica fume increases, the flow decreases for the increased viscidity. And the flow and sir content decrease with the addition of zinc stearate. At hardened state, the compressive strength, tensile strength and flexual strength decrease with the addition of expansive additives and zinc stearate. With the increase of silica fume's replacement, they show a little decrease at early age and then increase gradually. Also, absorption and permeability show a steep decrease when zinc stearate is added, and a slack decrease with the replacement of silica fume.

  • The performance of a prototype pump converted from that of its model pump shows an increase in efficiency brought about by a decrease in friction loss. As the friction force working on impeller blades causes partial peripheral motion on the outlet flow from the impeller, the increase in the prototype's efficiency causes also a decrease in its input power. This paper discusses results of analyses on the behavior of the theoretical head or input power of a prototype pump. The equation of friction-drag coefficient for a flat plate was applied for the analysis of hydraulic loss in impeller blade passages. It was revealed that the friction-drag of a flat plate could be, to a certain degree, substituted for the friction drag of impeller blades, i.e. as a means for analyzing the relationship between a prototype pump's efficiency increase and input power decrease.

  • Magnetic decreases are often observed in various regions of interplanetary space. Many studies are devoted to reveal the physical nature and generation mechanism of the magnetic decreases, but still we do not fully understand magnetic decreases. In this study, we investigate the structure of a magnetic decrease observed in a corotating interaction region using multi-spacecraft measurements. We use three spacecraft, ACE, Cluster, and Wind, which were widely separated in the x- and y-directions in the geocentric solar ecliptic (GSE) coordinates. The boundaries of the magnetic decrease are the same at the three locations and can be identified as tangential discontinuities. A notable feature is that the magnetic decrease has very large dimension, ≳ RE, along the boundary, which is much larger than the size, ~ 6 RE, along the normal direction. This suggests that the magnetic decrease has a shape of a long, thin rod or a wide slab.
