  • Complex and uncertain issues in supply chain result in integrated decision making processes in supply chains. So decentralized (distributed) decision making (DDM) approach is considered as a crucial stage in supply chain planning. In this paper, an uncertain DDM through coordination mechanism is addressed for a multi-product supply chain planning problem. The main concern of this study is comparison of DDM approach with centralized decision making (CDM) approach while some parameters of decision making are assumed to be uncertain. The uncertain DDM problem is modeled through fuzzy mathematical programming in which products' demands are assumed to be uncertain and modeled using fuzzy sets. Moreover, a CDM approach is customized and developed in presence of fuzzy parameters. Both approaches are solved using three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods. Hence, the contribution of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1) proposing a DDM approach for a multi-product supply chain planning problem; 2) Introducing a coordination mechanism in the proposed DDM approach in order to utilize the benefits of a CDM approach while using DDM approach; 3) Modeling the aforementioned problem through fuzzy mathematical programming; 4) Comparing the performance of proposed DDM and a customized uncertain CDM approach on multi-product supply chain planning; 5) Applying three fuzzy mathematical optimization methods in order to address and compare the performance of both DDM and CDM approaches. The results of these fuzzy optimization methods are compared. Computational results illustrate that the proposed DDM approach closely approximates the optimal solutions generated by the CDM approach while the manufacturer's and retailers' decisions are optimized through a coordination mechanism making lasting relationship.

  • This paper is concerned with developing a Multi-period Behavioral Model for the portfolio selection problem. The unique feature of the model is that it treats a number of factors and decision variables considered germane in decision making on an interrelated basis. The formulated problem has the structure of a Chance Constrained programming Model. Then empoloying arguments of Central Limit Theorem and normality assumption the stochastic model is reduced to that of a Non-Linear Programming Model. Finally, a number of interesting properties for the reduced model are established.

  • Over the last decades, interest in the application of decision support systems (DSS) in organizations has increased rapidly. Despite the growing number of investigations exmaining decision support system, relatively few empirical studies have evaluated the effects of DSS on problem-solving processes. This study examined, using a computer simulation technique, the effects of recursion in problem-solving processes on the problem-solving time. Results indicate that the recursions at the early stage of problem-solving processes scarcely influenced the problem-solving time, which is contrasted with the case of the recursions at the final stage.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the decision making process & preference for imported products and to suggest the systematic education programs for adolescent consumers. The data for this research were attained from 426 middle & high school students in Pohang. The data were analyzed by frequency distribution. mean standard deviation analysis of variance t-test, χ(sup)2-test and Pearson’s correlation with SAS program. The results of this study were as follows: 1. preference for imported products was significantly different according to sex, amount of pocket money, region. T.V advertising, friends and the attitude of their mothers. 2. Decision making process was composed of 4 dimensions in this study; information sources criteria for products problem experience of consumption and type of problem solving. In case of information sources there was a signifiant difference according to sex. grade level of parents’education. Criteria for products were significantly different according to sex grade. level of father’s education type of father’s job amount of pocket money and how they gained their pocket money. Consumption problem experience & type of problem solving were significantly different according to sex and grade. 3. Preference for imported products was significantly different according to criteria for products and consumption problem experience out of adecision making process.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a brand new interface mechanism to provide more intelligent decision making support for EC problems. Its main virtue is based on a numerical process mechanism by using an Extended AND-OR Graph (EAOG)-based logic algebra. Using this mechanism, decision makers engaged in electronic commerce (EC) can effectively deal with complicated decision making problems. In the field of traditional expert systems research, AND-OR Graph approach has been suggested as a useful tool for representing the logic flowchart of the forward and/or backward chaining inference methods. However, the AND-OR Graph approach cannot be effectively used in the EC problems in which real-time problem-solving property should be highly required. In this sense, we propose the EAOG inference mechanism for EC problem-solving in which heurisric knowledge necessary for intelligent EC problem-solving can be represented in a form of matrix. Finally, we have proved the validity of our approach with several propositions and an illustrative EC example

  • In this study, we develope a revised model as well as application of decision problem under ambiguity based on the subjectively weighted linear utility medel. Bayes'rule is used when there are ambiguous probabilities on a decision problem and test information is available. A procedure for assessing the ambiguity aversion function is also presented. Decision problem of chemical corporation is used for an illustration of the application of the subjectively weighted linear utility model using Bayesian approach. We present the optimal decisiond using newly developed model. We also perform the sensitivity analysis to assure ourselves about the conclusion we obtianed on degree of ambiguity aversion due to characterize parameter of subjectively weighted linear utility model.

  • This paper proposes a design methodology for distributed databases connected by a LAN. Two primary objectives of the methodology are (i) to allocate data files and workload among heterogeneous servers and (ii) to determine the number of servers to satisfy the response time required for processing each transaction. The file and workload allocation decision is formulated as a nonlinear zero-one integer programming problem. This problem is proven to be NP-complete. A heuristic is developed to solve this problem effectively. A decision support system is implemented and an example is solved to illustrate the practical usefulness of the system.

  • Selection of appropriate knowledge acquisition and representation techniques is regarded as a major task in the development of expert systems. This depends on the characteristics of problem domains. Expert system builders have often adopted a technique without a formal analysis of application domains. The purpose of this paper is to provide the best knowledge aquisition and representation technique for use in human resource management problem domains. In an attempt to meet this purpose, the conceptual contingency model that suggests the best technique according to managerial decision categories is used as a guidance. In order to determine the priority of managerial decision categories, the Analytic Hierarchy Process and an extended method are proposed.

  • In this paper, for the fuzzy constraints not only fuzziness of the constraints relation but also uncertainties of the response of the structures, allowable limits of the constraints and structural design variables, etc. are considered,. so that the fuzzy optimization of the structures can involve more wide scope of the problem and the fuzzy optimal problem is more generalized. In the decision making of the structural design scheme, every possible cases of the fuzzy variables, random variables and fuzzy-random variables, etc. for the uncertainties of the optimization problem are all considered, so the most general method of the decision making is presented. And a numerical example for the three bar truss is offered to demonstrate the reliability and execution possibility proposed method in this paper.

  • Despite extensive research on various factors affecting the effectiveness of decision support systems (DSS), considerable ambiguity still exists regarding the role and influence of the experience on the given task and the decision support system. Although researchers have advocated DSS effectiveness as a multi-dimensional construct, specific results regarding the effect of the familiarity in the task and the DSS on the problem-solving time is still lacking. The study reported here attempts to find the effect of the peculiarity of the problem-solving process on the problem-solving time. The results of the study highlight that the expertise in both the task and the DSS have made the shortage of the problem-solving time. However, more research about the generalized performance measure on the DSS is required.
