It is very important for more effective military operation to share information required in recognizing a situation by monitoring battlefield. The recognition of situations is offered visually though multi-media systems such as a COP(Common Operation Picture), UAV etc. The operating method has rapidly changed into Network-Centric Warfare (NCW). As a result, the data that these Multimedia systems should control is increasing. Improved performance of Multimedia systems is required to deal with them. In this paper, we propose Extended-Military Multimedia System(E-MMS) applying the most excellent scheduling method in terms of meet-ratio in real time when Multimedia systems carry out assigned information in real time for monitoring as the method of improved performance. As a result of utility about proposed system, it is verified that realtime EDF(Earliest Deadline First) scheduling method is more improved up to 20% compared to non-realtime FCFS(First Come First Service) in terms of the deadline meet ratio.
This paper proposes and analyzes an error control scheme for the transmission control based real-time communication, such as FDDI, TDMA, and wireless LAN, which delivers the message according to the round robin fashion after the off-line bandwidth allocation. Taking into account the time constraint of each message, the proposed error control scheme makes the receiver transmit the error report via asynchronous traffic while the sender resend the requested message via overallocated access time which is inevitably introduced by the bandwidth allocation procedure for hard real -time guarantee. The error control procedure does not interfere other real -time message transmissions. In addition, as each frame contains the size of the message it belongs, the receiver can recognize the end of completion of message transmission. This enables earlier error report to the receiver so that the sender can cope with more network errors. The analysis results along with simulation performed via SMPL show that the proposed scheme is able to enhance the deadline meet ratio of messages by overcoming the network errors. Using the proposed error control scheme, the hard real -time network can be built at cost lower than, but performance comparable to the expensive dual link network.
Most concurrency control protocols have been devised for resolving data conflicts among real-time transactions of a single type. Recent real-time database systems should support various types of real-time transactions due to needs of many different types of applications and steady improvement of hardware. In this paper, we propose integrated concurrency control protocol to resolve data conflicts among hard and soft real-time transactions. Our proposed protocol, based on PCP(Priority Ceiling Protocol) for a hard real-time transactions and MVPR(Multiversion with Precedence Relationship), guarantees that hard real-time transactions meet their deadline, and decreases the deadline miss ratio of soft real-time transactions. We also proved that the proposed protocol guarantees serializable schedules and no deadlocks. The performance of the proposed protocol has been compared with other real-time concurrency protocols.

It is not practically feasible to apply hardware-based fault-tolerant schemes, such as hardware replication, in mobile devices. Therefore, software-based fault-tolerance techniques, such as checkpoint and rollback schemes, are required. In checkpoint and rollback schemes, the optimal checkpoint interval should be applied to obtain the best performance. Most previous studies focused on minimizing the expected execution time or response time for completing a given task. Currently, most mobile applications run in real-time environments. Therefore, it is extremely essential for mobile devices to employ optimal checkpoint intervals as determined by the real-time constraints of tasks. In this study, we tackle the problem of determining the optimal inter-checkpoint interval of checkpoint and rollback schemes to maximize the deadline meet ratio in real-time systems and to build a probabilistic cost model. From this cost model, we can numerically find the optimal checkpoint interval using mathematical tools. The performance of the proposed solution is evaluated using analytical estimates.

This paper proposes and analyzes an error control scheme which tries to recover the transmission error within the deadline of a message on FDDI networks. The error control procedure does not interfere other normal message transmissions by delivering retransmission request via asynchronous traffic as well as by delivering retarnsmitted message via overallocated bandwidth which is inevitably produced by the bandwidth allocation scheme for hard real-time guarantee. The receiver counts the number of tokens which it meets, determines the completion of message transmission, and finally sends error report. The analysis results along with simulation performed via SMPL show that the proposed scheme is able to enhance the deadline meet ratio of messages by overcoming the network errors. Using the proposed error control scheme, the hard real-time network can be built at cost lower than, but performacne comparable to the dual link network.
Soft real-time applications such as multimedia feature highly variable processor requirements and probabilistic guarantees on deadline misses, meaning that each task in the application meets its deadline with a given probability. Thus, for such soft real-time applications, a system designer may want to improve the system utilization by allocating to each task a processor time less than its worst-case requirement, as long as the imposed probabilistic timing constraint is met. In this case, however, we have to address how to schedule jobs of a task that require more than (or, overrun) the allocated processor time to the task. In this paper, to address the overrun problem, we propose an overrun control method, which probabilistically controls the execution of overrunning jobs. The proposed overrun control method probabilistically allows overrunning jobs to complete for better system utilization, and also probabilistically prevents the overrunning jobs from completing so that the required probabilistic timing constraint for each task can be met. In the paper, we show that the proposed method outperforms previous methods proposed in the literature in terms of the overall deadline miss ratio, and that it is possible to synthesize the scheduling parameters of our method so that all tasks can meet the given probabilistic timing constraints.
This paper proposes and evaluates a scheme which enhances real-time performance on the Ethernet-based residential network where cable length is very short and most of traffic passes through a specific device. The scheme aims at enhancing deadline meet ratio of the real-time traffic, for example, video stream by means of applying the functionalities such as queue discrimination and early packet discard as well as maintaining network load properly. The design includes the description on hardware interfaces along with the software modules such as scheduler, device driver and connection manager. The simulation results via SMPL suggest that the proposed network can be used as a cost-effective residential network. We also measure the permissible bandwidth for non-real-time traffic without degrading the performance of real-time traffic.

Quality of Service (QoS) awareness is recognized as a key point for the success of Internet of Things (IOT).Realizing the full potential of the Internet of Things requires, a real-time task scheduling algorithm must be designed to meet the QoS need. In order to schedule tasks with diverse QoS requirements in cloud environment efficiently, we propose a task scheduling strategy based on dynamic priority and load balancing (DPLB) in this paper. The dynamic priority consisted of task value density and the urgency of the task execution, the priority is increased over time to insure that each task can be implemented in time. The scheduling decision variable is composed of time attractiveness considered earliest completion time (ECT) and load brightness considered load status information which by obtain from each virtual machine by topic-based publish/subscribe mechanism. Then sorting tasks by priority and first schedule the task with highest priority to the virtual machine in feasible VMs group which satisfy the QoS requirements of task with maximal. Finally, after this patch tasks are scheduled over, the task migration manager will start work to reduce the load balancing degree. The experimental results show that, compared with the Min-Min, Max-Min, WRR, GAs, and HBB-LB algorithm, the DPLB is more effective, it reduces the Makespan, balances the load of VMs, augments the success completed ratio of tasks before deadline and raises the profit of cloud service per second.
