  • An important problem in the transmission performance and efficiency is to find the values and the number of the cross-correlation function between two different maximal sequences. In this paper, we present the new maximal sequences which are obtained by the new decimations $d=\frac{2^{m-st-1}}{2^s-1}(2^n+2^{st+s+1}-2^{m+st+1}-1)$ from some maximal sequences. We will also find the values and the number of occurrences of each value of the cross-correlation function from the proposed decimations.

  • Generalized paper folding sequences $X^n_p$ and $(X_pY_q)^n$ where $X,Y{\in}\{R,L,U,D\}$, and $n,p,q{\in}\mathbb{N}$, and with $p,q{\geq}2$ are classified in this paper. We show that all generalized paper folding sequences $X^n_p$ are classified into one type if we classify generalize paper folding sequences along with the numbers of downwards and upwards. In addition, we investigate the numbers of downwards and upwards in $(X_pY_q)^n$ and prove that all generalized paper folding sequences $(X_pY_q)^n$ are classified into two types.

  • Species boundaries among the Alcyonacean soft coral, the genus Dendronephthya, are often obscured by inter- and intraspecific morphological variations. In the present study, we attempted to infer the genetic relationships of eight dendronephthians based on their molecular characters, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of ribosomal DNA, and then compared this result together with the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) data from our previous investigation. Dendronephthya. putteri and D. suensoni formed a divaricate form - VI grade specific clade, whereas D. castanea, D. gigantea, D. aurea and D. spinifera, formed a umbellate and glomerate form - IV and III grade specific clade. Therefore, we confirmed that the main characters the growth form and the anthocodial grade and formula, are important in identification of the species in dendronephthians despite some problems. Also, the relationships of the growth form are clarified as the glomerate form is much closer to the umbellate form than to the divaricate form based on two sets of independent molecular data. However, we cannot determine the molecular markers which limit the species boundaries among this genus with ITS sequences.

  • Background: Dicyemids are parasites found in the renal sac of cephalopods. The first species of dicyemid was found from kidneys of the Korean common octopus Callistoctopus minor. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the dicyemid and investigate the effect on renal sac of host. Methods: In this study, we compared the morphological characteristics of isolate to dicyemids (Dicyema sphyrocephalum, Dicyema clavatum, and Dicyema dolichocephalum) reported from C. minor in Japan. We compared the 18S ribosomal RNA (rDNA) and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of isolate to the sequences of D. shyrocephalum and D. clavatum. The infected octopuses renal tissues were histologically compared with the tissues of uninfected individuals. Results: The morphological characteristic of this isolated species corresponds to D. sphyrocephalum. The sequences similarities of 18S rDNA and COI gene of isolate are 99.7% and 98.1% with D. sphyrocephalum. We observed morphological changes in the epithelia folds of kidney at the dicyemids attached areas. Conclusions: The present study identified the isolate as D. sphyrocephalum and this is the first report of dicyemid species from Republic of Korea. Further studies on the effects of dicyemids on growth and health status of cephalopods will be needed.

  • This Paper presents the 3D wavelet transformation based video compression system, which possesses the capability of progressive transmission by increasing resolution and increasing rate for multimedia applications. The 3D wavelet packet based video compression system removes the temporal correlation of the input sequences using the motion compensation filter and decomposes the spatio-temporal subband using the spatial wavelet packet transformation. The proposed system allocates the higher bit rate to the low frequency image of the 3D wavelet sequences and improves the 0.49dB PSNR performance of the reconstructed image in comparison with that of H.263. In addition to the limitation on the propagation of the motion compensation error by the 3D wavelet transformation, the proposed system progressively transmits the input sequence according to the resolution and rate scalability.

  • The design of PN(Pseudo Noise) sequences with good cross-correlation properties is important for many research areas in communication systems. In this paper we propose new family of binary sequences $S^r=\{Tr_1^m\{[Tr_m^n(a{\alpha}^t+{\alpha}^{dt})]^r\}{\mid}a{\in}GF(2^n),\;0{\leq}t<2^n-1\}$ composed of Gold-like sequences and find the value of cross-correlation function when $d=2^{n-1}(3{\cdot}2^m-1)$, where n=2k, gcd(r, $2^m-1$)=1. Also we analyze the linear span of $S^r$ for some special r. Proposed sequences are extension of Gold-like sequences and GMW-sequences.

  • This paper shows design of maximal-period sequences with prescribed constant auto-correlation values based on one-dimensional (1-D) maps with (mite bits. We construct such 1-D maps based on piecewise linear onto chaotic maps. Theoretical analyses and some design examples are given.

  • New PCR primers (N=18) were designed for the isolation of complete SSU to LSU rDNA sequences from the dinoflagellate Alexandrium tamarense. Standard PCR, employing each primer set selected for amplifications of less than 1.5 kb, successfully amplified the expected rDNA regions of A. tamarense (Korean isolate, HY970328M). Complete SSU, LSU rDNAs and ITS sequences, including 5.8S rDNA, were recorded at 1,800 bp, 520 bp and 3,393 bp, respectively. The LSU rDNA sequence was the first report in Alexandrium genus. No intron was found in the LSU rRNA coding region. Twelve D-domains within the LSU rDNA were put together into 1,879 bp (44.4% G+C), and cores into 1514 bp (42.8% G+C). The core sequence was significantly different (0.0867 of genetic distance, 91% sequence similarity) in comparison with Prorocentrum micans (GenBank access. no. X16108). The D2 region was the longest in length (300 bp) and highly variable among the 12 D-domains. In a phylogenetic analysis using complete LSU rDNA sequences of a variety of phytoplankton, A. tamarense was clearly separated with high resolution against other species. The result suggests that the sequence may resolve the taxonomic ambiguities of Alexandrium genus, particularly of the tamarensis complex.

  • One-dimensional time-series data have been studied in various database applications such as data mining and data warehousing. However, in the current complex business environment, multidimensional data sequences (MDS') become increasingly important in addition to one-dimensional time-series data. For example, a video stream can be modeled as an MDS in the multidimensional space with respect to color and texture attributes. In this paper, we propose the effective similarity measures on which the similar pattern retrieval is based. An MDS is partitioned into segments, each of which is represented by various geometric and semantic features. The similarity measures are defined on the basis of these segments. Using the measures, irrelevant segments are pruned from a database with respect to a given query. Both data sequences and query sequences are partitioned into segments, and the query processing is based upon the comparison of the features between data and query segments, instead of scanning all data elements of entire sequences.

  • Paper presents a comparative study of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) switching sequences for Voltage Source Inverters (VSIs). Various SVPWM switching sequences are studied for two and three level VSIs in linear modulation index region. The computations of dwell times are presented for two and three level VSIs based on space vector geometry in a synchronized and optimized manner. The existing SVPWM switching sequences are implemented using Matlab / Simulink and in an experimental setup for three phase two and three level VSIs. The simulation and experimental waveforms of conventional SVPWM (CSVPWM) and bus clamped SVPWM (BCSVPWM) are demonstrated for two and three level inverter respectively. The performance of different SVPWM switching sequences are evaluated and presented based on weighted voltage total harmonic distortion (THD).
