Current Control of Three-Phase PWM Converters under Unbalanced and Distorted Source Voltage (전원전압의 불평형 및 왜곡시 3상 PWM 컨버터의 전류제어)

  • This paper proposes a current control scheme of the PWM converters under nonideal source voltage conditions such as unbalance and distortion. For the distorted source voltage, the harmonic current controllers are introduced to the conventional current controller. These control loops can eliminate the 5th and 7th order harmonics which are hardly to be done by using filters. For the unbalanced source voltage, a negative sequence current controller is introduced either to reduce the DC-link voltage ripples or to eliminate the source current unbalance. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • In this study, samples from the site where there occurred unbalanced current when cable routing were analyzed, and the simulation program for electric power system analysis, PSCAD/EMTDC, was used to calculate the current unbalance on cable routing. Based on electromagnetic finite element analysis(FEA), electromagnetic parameters enabled the interlocking with COMSOL for the calculation of allowable current ampacity and magnetic filed distribution. This then led to modeling unbalanced current between common modes using the unbalanced current analysis program, thereby comparing and discussing the results from both. The analyzed model is a common mode 2 parallel circuit, which is a basic model for cable routing, and by arranging cables in various ways, the arrangement with the least current unbalance was suggested, which would, in the future, prevent earth faults and extend life for the whole cable.

  • In general, utility voltage is maintained at a relatively low level of Phase unbalance since a low level of unbalance can cause a significant power supply ripple and heating effects on the power system equipment. Voltage unbalance more commonly emerges in individual customer loads due to phase load unbalanced, especially where single phase power loads are used. Under unbalanced input voltages large lower order harmonics appears at the input and output ports of Power conversion devices. As the application of adjustable -speed drives (ASDs) and their integration with complex industrial processes increase, so does the need to understand how ASDs perform during voltage This paper describes a real load test to investigate the performance of 3-HP adjustable speed drives by an unbalanced voltage at the low-voltage system.

  • As the increasing of Non-linear load, we have been growing interest for the harmonics. Harmonics has been focused on the current component rather than voltages. Voltage harmonics can be mainly generated at the PCC with non-linear load and act on voltage unbalance. Voltage harmonics can be enlarged at the capacitor with low impedance as frequency increases. Capacitor is basically used for the power-factor compensation and sometimes as the passive filter. Small voltage of low-order acts on quite a few at the capacitor by the current increase. Capacitor has easily fall under by harmonic components. In this paper, we measured the magnitude and phase angle of asymmetrical voltage with harmonics components at the PCC and calculated with the same condition. we concluded that voltage harmonics of higher order increase each current component but have a little effect on capacitor rating.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive feedforward controller (AFC) based on LMS for periodic disturbance rejection in active magnetic bearing system. The proposed controller does not alter the stability and robustness of the existing AMB system. It is shown that the control delay due to the eddy current as well as runout and unbalance can be identified and compensated using the estimated displacement from the measured magnetic flux. The simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme successfully identifies and compensates for the runout, unbalance and eddy current effect, leading to a high-precision magnetic bearing system.

  • Capacitor has been used principally for the power factor compensation long ago. However now it does as passive filter to reduce harmonics of nonlinear load with reactor. Most of the customer's low-voltage feeder has been designed with approximately balanced and connected at the 3 phase four wire system. But voltage and current unbalance is appeared by the mixing operation of single or three phase load etc. The addition of reactor at the condenser may rise its terminal voltage. Voltage and current values above rating can act on electrical stress on the condenser. In this paper, we calculated and measured that voltage, current and capacity of condenser are changed under the voltage balance. We conclude that magnitude and deviation of phase voltage act on major point of electrical stress.

  • Power devices for high power drivers that need high switching speed (IGCT, HVIGBT) have been continuously developed. However, serial and parallel connections using several much cheaper, lower power capacity of devices than an expensive high power device are very useful methods in the aspect of cost down and high power application. Even the current and voltage unbalance problem is occurred at each devices. This unbalance characteristics are mainly caused by the differences of physical characteristics of each devices and the line inductance (stray inductance) of bus bars that consist of current path. This paper deals simulation analysis of serial connection of IGCTs and parallel connection of IGCTs using physical model of devices. And also, introduces the method to reduce the voltage and current unbalance problem.

  • In the three-phase four-wire low-voltage power distribution equipment, single-phase and three-phase load have been used mainly mixed. Also linear and nonlinear loads have been used together in the same conditions. In a three-phase four-wire distribution line, the current distribution of three-phase linear load is almost constant in each phase during driving or stopping, but the single-phase load is different from each other for each phase in accordance with the operation and stop. So that the voltage unbalance is caused by the current difference of each phase. In the three-phase four-wire distribution system, non-linear load is used with linear load. The presence of single-phase nonlinear loads can produce an increase in harmonic currents in three-phase and neutral line. It can also cause voltage unbalance. In the present study, we analyzed for the voltage unbalance fluctuations by the operation pattern of the single and three-phase linear and non-linear load in three-phase four-wire low voltage distribution system.

  • In the three phase four wire system, voltage unbalance caused by the unbalanced load operation, gives rise to current unbalance and de-rates by the increase of machine's loss and eventually enlarges power capacity and besides has a bad effect on power quality. Power capacitor has been used for the power factor correction of inductive load and the voltage stability of power system. And it uses instead of power side for magnetic excitation of induction motor. If voltage unbalance keeps up, it affects on voltage stress at the power capacitor and finally can be caused breakdown. In this paper, we analysed that voltage and current of power capacitor increases by the voltage unbalance factor and its stress is growing more and more.

  • In this study, we examine a large number of methods for paralleling power converter, many current control techniques and the cause and solutions of the current unbalance that occurs at the application of a paralleling scheme. For each paralleling schemes, we inspect the merits and drawbacks and analyze the characteristics of each current control methods. With previously examined and analyzed results, we develop a modularizing method that can be available for unregulated bus system. And finally, we verify the possibility of the chosen modularizing method by executing simulation and performing prototype experiment.
