  • The purpose of this paper is to 1)examine the current state of cultural studies in Korea with a focus on recent discourses about its 'crisis' and 2)attempt to find some ways out of these dilemmas in drama/theatre/performance studies. As Raymond Williams redefined 'culture' as 'a whole way of life,' performance studies has expanded the boundary of 'performance' from traditional performing arts onto almost everything that can be studied and analyzed 'as' performance. Performance is not only the final product on display but a whole process that includes training, workshop, and rehearsal of culture. According to Richard Schechner, workshop and rehearsal are the most critical and creative 'liminal' phases that allow traditional knowledge and alternative challenges to coexist in conflict and intentionally delay the final decision by putting itself in a perpetual process. From this view, this essay attempts to find an-no matter how limited and temporary-answer to or a possible exit from political and theoretical aporias of cultural studies.

  • Purpose - This study aims to examine the relationship between high-performance work systems and organizational ambidexterity. Additionally, it seeks to verify the mediating effect of organizational cultural diversity on this relationship. Design/methodology/approach - The study tested four hypotheses using data from manufacturing companies with more than 100 regular workers, sourced from the Human Capital Corporate Panel (HCCP). For empirical analysis, the generalized least squares (GLS) estimation method was employed, and the hypotheses were verified using a probabilistic effects model. Findings - The study revealed that high-performance work systems improve organizational ambidexterity by enhancing organizational cultural diversity. Research implications or Originality - This study confirms the mediating effect of organizational cultural diversity between high-performance work systems and organizational ambidexterity, explaining how high-performance work systems influence organizational ambidexterity through organizational cultural diversity. Additionally, it identifies an organizational cultural variable that closely aligns with the academic concept of organizational ambidexterity. The study demonstrates that the core elements of high-performance work systems are instrumental in cultivating an organization that simultaneously pursues seemingly competitive heterogeneous values.

  • Organizational culture among flight crews has a profound impact on the individual attitude and behavior of member flight crews, and active training is conducted focusing on improving flight crews' Crew Resource Management(CRM) performance. However, adequate research and training on the relationships between flight crew's individual culture and CRM performance have not been conducted. Hence, this study examined the effect of individual cultural values on CRM performance and the moderation effect of psychological safety, with captains and first officers working for commercial airlines as participants. For the factors related to individual cultural value scale, power distance had no significant effect on CRM performance, uncertainty avoidance had a significant negative effect, and individualism had a significant positive effect. With regard to the moderation effect of psychological safety on the relationships between individual cultural values and CRM performance, a significant interaction was found between power distance and CRM performance, but not between uncertainty avoidance and CRM performance, or between individualism and CRM performance. Power distance and CRM performance exhibited a strong negative correlation in case of low psychological safety. Compared to existing research measuring the cultural characteristics of pilot groups on a national or organizational culture level, this study is uniquely valuable in that it also covers the relationship between individual cultural values of commercial airline flight crews and CRM performance.

There are seven Educational Cultural Center for Students all over the country and will be built more in the future. Comparing to the former Educational Cultural Centers for Students, functional rooms in the Educational Cultural Centers for Students are an outdoor performance room, a large performance room, a small performance room of performance facility, a gallery of display facility, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a fitness room, a table-tennis room of physical facility, a library and a reading room of a book facility, and a group room, a computer room, a singing room, a billiard room, an art room, a musical room, a dancing room, a manner room, a playing room, a cultural lecture room and a seminar room of a interest-activity facility. The result of analyzing the usage frequency is that a performance room has the highest frequency and a display room, a musical room, a music appreciation room and a physical room follow the frequency order. But this frequency does not fit for all area. By place and social situations, the frequency and space organization may be changed.

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the effect of cultural distance between partner firms on international joint venture performance, focusing on the moderating effects of the conflict resolution techniques and the competitive relationship between partner firms. We tested hypotheses based on joint venture firms that were surveyed which formed by equity investment between Korean and foreign firms in the manufacturing industry. The empirical analysis results of this study are as follows. First, in international joint ventures, the cultural distance between partner firms was found to have a negative effect on the international joint venture performance, and the higher the cultural distance, the lower the joint venture performance. Second, it was found that constructive conflict resolution techniques weaken the negative impact of the cultural distance between partner firms in international joint ventures on the performance of international joint ventures. Third, competitive relationship between international joint venture partners showed no moderating effect on the relationship between cultural distance and international joint venture performance.

  • This study empirically investigated cultural differences in the amount of information provided by management accounting information systems as well as the differences in organizational performance according to variations in the amount of information. Through cluster analysis, we classified sample firms into five organizational cultural types: Semi-innovative, innovative, bureaucratic, semi-bureaucratic and supportive. The results showed that in the semi-innovative firms, a greater amount of the traditional and advanced types of information is produced, while in bureaucratic firms, traditional information is much more provided than in the innovative, semi-bureaucratic and supportive firms. These results confirmed cultural differences in the amount of information produced. According to the results of this study, it was found that in organizational performance, the rankings of semi-innovative firms, which have the highest scores in the amount of information, are also the highest, and the performance scores in innovative firms are generally next to those of semi-innovative firms. Hence, it is concluded that there are cultural differences in the amount of information provided, and these differences affect organizational performance.

  • This study analyzes and assesses the effect of good governance consisting of accountability, transparency, and participation on the financial performance of Pare-Pare City local government moderated by the basic values of Siri culture in the form of Lempu (honesty), Amaccangeng (intelligence), and Awaraningeng (courage). The population of this research is 200 local government employees (respondents). The results of data analysis showed that accountability and participation variables had no significant effect on the financial performance of the Pare-Pare City local government. However, the transparency variable has an influence on local government financial performance. It is hoped that all these 3 variables (accountability, transparency, and participation) will have a significant effect on local government financial performance. To achieve this, it is necessary to apply cultural values that exist in society so that cultural values can provide greater guidance in the management of regional finances. The results provide a better understanding of the importance of Siri's cultural value in the implementation of public services to the community. With Siri's cultural values in the form of Lempu, Amaccangeng, and Awaraningeng embedded in their behavior, government employees can improve performance and avoid deviant behavior or corruption. The novelty of this research is a form of analysis by using local cultural values (the basic values of Siri culture) as the moderating variable.
