Improvement of the Vibration Characteristics for the Oil Pipe Support Structure of the Crude Oil Carrier (설계개선에 의한 원유운반선 송유관 지지구조물의 진동 저감)

  • Recently it was reported that the vibration problems on the oil pipe support structure of the crude oil carrier were occurred. in order to investigate the vibration characteristics and the causes of the vibration occasionally. the vibration measurements and impact tests for the oil Pipe structure were carried out. From the measurement results severe vibration was caused by the resonance between the transversal natural frequency of the structure and $6^{th}$ order excitation force of the main engine. Providing the proper countermeasures a series of the vibration analyses were carried out based on the measurement results. From the analysis results, it was concluded that the vibration characteristics of the oil pipe structure were affected by the oil pipes, support structure itself, upper deck structure and the installation spaces and the standard design was established for the crude oil carriers.

Detecting and predicting the crude oil type inside composite pipes using ECS and ANN

  • The present work develops an expert system for detecting and predicting the crude oil types and properties at normal temperature ${\theta}=25^{\circ}C$, by evaluating the dielectric properties of the fluid transfused inside glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GFRE) composite pipelines, by using electrical capacitance sensor (ECS) technique, then used the data measurements from ECS to predict the types of the other crude oil transfused inside the pipeline, by designing an efficient artificial neural network (ANN) architecture. The variation in the dielectric signatures are employed to design an electrical capacitance sensor (ECS) with high sensitivity to detect such problem. ECS consists of 12 electrodes mounted on the outer surface of the pipe. A finite element (FE) simulation model is developed to measure the capacitance values and node potential distribution of ECS electrodes by ANSYS and MATLAB, which are combined to simulate sensor characteristic. Radial Basis neural network (RBNN), structure is applied, trained and tested to predict the finite element (FE) results of crude oil types transfused inside (GFRE) pipe under room temperature using MATLAB neural network toolbox. The FE results are in excellent agreement with an RBNN results, thus validating the accuracy and reliability of the proposed technique.

Development of a Pipe Modeling System based on the Hull Structural Model Applying the Rapid Pipe Routing Method (쾌속 배관 라우팅 방법을 적용한 선체 구조 모델 기반의 배관 모델링 시스템 개발)

  • The present pipe modeling method requires detailed inputs from a designer to generate a pipe model, and thus it takes much time for the designer to perform such task. Moreover, the pipe model has no relation with the hull structure. Thus, it is time-consuming and requires much effort if design changes arise. In this study, a generating method that generates quickly many pipes using a pipe tray and a conversion method that converts automatically the pipes into objects related with the hull structure are proposed. A pipe modeling system based on the proposed methods is developed. The applicability of the developed system is demonstrated by applying it to the generation of the pipe model of a deadweight 300,000 ton VLCC(Very Large Crude oil Carrier). The results show that the developed system can quickly generate the pipe model in relation with the hull structure.

A Study on the Design and Strength Evaluation of the Pipe Support Structure and Hull Reinforcement (파이프 지지구조와 하부 보강의 설계와 강도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • In the case of gas carriers and oil tankers, pipes are installed on the upper deck as a moving passage to load LPG, LNG, crude oil, etc. Pipes used for loading or unloading liquid cargo in cargo holds are connected to the hull through support structures. However, many cases of hull damage have been reported where the various equipment and support structures are installed on the upper deck. It is assumed that not only the structural discontinuity where the hull and the pipe support structure meet, but also action due to the pipe loads and the hull girder bending moment are simultaneously affected. This paper deals with the design and strength evaluation of the support structure of pipes and cables installed on the upper deck of commercial ships and offshore structures. For these supporting structures, design conditions and working loads were defined. The design procedure was established through the structure analysis on the method of determining the member dimensions. A series of finite element analysis was performed on the factors to be considered in the design and the effects were discussed. The accuracy and design periods of the strength evaluation was improved and reduced by application of the automation program in the finite element analysis. It is also expected that the design reliability of the shipyard is improved.

Optimal Determination of Pipe Support Types in Flare System for Minimizing Support Cost (비용 최소화를 위한 플래어 시스템의 배관 서포트 타입 최적설계)

  • Floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) is a production facility that refines and saves the drilled crude oil from a drilling facility in the ocean. The flare system in the FPSO is a major part of the pressure relieving system for hydrocarbon processing plants. The flare system consists of a number of pipes and complicated connection systems. Decision of pipe support types is important since the load on the support and the stress in the pipe are influenced by the pipe support type. In this study, we optimally determined the pipe support types that minimized the support cost while satisfying the design constraints on maximum support load, maximum nozzle load and maximum pipe stress ratio. Performance indices included in the design constraints for a specified design were evaluated by pipe structural analysis using CAESAR II. Since pipe support types were all discrete design variables, an evolutionary algorithm (EA) was used as an optimizer. We successfully obtained the optimal solution that reduced the support cost by 27.2% compared to the initial support cost while all the design requirements were satisfied.

An Experimental Study on the Oil Spillage of Damaged Oil Tanker (유조선의 선체손상 시 기름의 해상유출에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Crude oil carriers or product oil carriers are confronted with sea pollution due to hull damage from various accidents. To reduce the oil spillage of tankers, IMO(International Maritime Organization) and OPA 90(Oil Pollution Act 1990) adopted the hull structures of double skin type. In this study, oil spillage test of the double skin tanker with 1/100 scaled model was carried out under damaged condition due to collision and grounding accidents. A new structural type of oil tanker was also tested with pipe and valve system arranged in double side and single bottom hulls. Their results were compared with that of conventional type double hull on the view point of ship safety and oil spillage.

At that time injection sea water at the pipe inside through water injection pump that the device Increase recovery so to be research and development at many industry. So developing 3-stage water injection pump at the domestic company. A variety of mathematical analysis during the detailed design analysis was not made through the dynamics characteristic. In this paper, a 2D finite element analysis is performed through the dynamics of the present study was the validation of the model.

  • It is well known that drag reduction in single phase liquid flow is affected by polymer material, molecular weight, polymer concentration, pipe diameter, and flow velocity. Drag reduction in two phase flow can be applied to the transport of crude oil, phase change system such as chemical reactor, pool and boiling flow, and to present cavitation which occurs in pump impellers. But the research of drag reduction in two phase flow is not sufficient. The purpose of the present work is to evaluate the drag reduction by measuring pressure drop, void fraction, mean liquid velocity, and turbulent intensity whether polymer is added in the horizontal two phase system or not. Experiment has been conducted in a test section with the inner diameter of 24mm and the length of 1,500mm. The polymer materials used are two kinds of polyacrylamide[PAAM] and co-polymer[A611P]. The polymer concentration was varied with 50, 100 and 200 ppm under the same experimental conditions. Experimental results showed that the drag reduction of co-polymer is higher than that of polyacrylamide. Mean liquid velocities increased as polymer was added, and turbulent intensity decreased inversely near the pipe wall.
