Both shear and torsional moments apply shear stresses on cross-section of a member, which need to be considered in the design. But in the current Korean Building Code, the design equations for shear and torsional moments are expressed in terms of the sectional strength with different units, causing figures to be drawn separately in two axes. If the design equations are expressed in terms of stresses, then the stresses of shear and torsional moments can be added, allowing figures to be drawn in one axis for easy recognition of the design procedure and the final design results. Moreover, the current code's design equations for shear and torsional moments are considered separately with the intention of summing the area of stirrups with respect to unit length for shear moment ($A_{\upsilon}/s$) and torsional moment ($2A_t/s$). Since the size or type of vertical stirrups are predetermined in the design process, the design equations are expressed in terms of the spacing of stirrups rather than the $A_{\upsilon}/s$ and $2A_t/s$ terms, clarifying various design steps and a design process.
A Study of the Emotionality of Child and Mother The purpose of this study is primarily to understand the emotional climate of child and mother, which is a significant factor in child study and the home life. A sample was collected from a total of 1,592 of whom 796 are elementary school children with their mothers. Of these 796 children 440 are fom private schools, 190 from public schools in Seoul. The rest are taken from a farming area, 100 kilometers from Seoul. The data was basically obtained through answers to a questionaire distributed in September 1973. In this study, the cross-sectional method, percentage calculation and chi-square test are adapted from factor analysis. With this limited amount of data special attention now, the following conclusions can be drawn from this analysis although special attention should be given in making any kind of generalization about the entire population. 1) Children's emotionality (a) There is a higher percentage of emotionally well-adjusted children as opposed to maladjusted children.(51%>11%) (b) There is no correlation between children's emotionality and the following factors: grade, sex, residential area, school records, and educational level of their mothers. 2) Mother's Emotionality (a) There are more mothers who consider themselves happy than unhappy.(49%>2%) On the other hand a higher percentage of mothers reported feelings of tension and insecurity as compared to those who had feelings of firm security(65%>5%) (b) There is a high correlationshionship between marital adjustment and marital happiness. In other words, the more adjusted, the happier. A high marital happiness has strong influence on the preference of sex, on children's adjustment to their friends, and their present living condition. (c) There is a close relationship between a high marital adjustment and the social development of a child: being fond of fathers, homelife, and the acquaintance with many friends. In the same way, the positive emotionality of a mother in raising her children and their school records are also important. 3) Emotional relationship between a mother and her chid There is a close bond of love and respect between a mother and her child. Moreover, a high frequence of close and open-minded communication exist between them in a family. It is evident that the emotional climate of the mother has a strong and powerful influence on her child.
Purpose: This survey was done to describe parenting self-efficacy and beliefs in corporal punishment as they are related to child abuse. Also demographic variables that influence child abuse were investigated. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted during the second week of April 2002. The 160 participants were parents of students in five elementary schools in the J area of Korea. They replied to a structured questionnaire, and 129 replies were included in the final analysis. The WIN SPSS program was used for the analysis. Result: Parenting self-efficacy, beliefs in corporal punishment and child abuse showed no significant differences according to gender of the children. Child abuse by parents has significantly negative correlation with parenting self-efficacy (r=-.369, p=.000), socioeconomic states of family(r=-.290, p=.001), educational level of mother(r=-.211, p=.027), educational level of father(r=-.342, p=.000), parent's age(r=-.200, p=.028). Stepwise multiple regression showed that parenting self-efficacy and beliefs in corporal punishment significantly influence child abuse in Korean parents. Conclusion: As parenting self-efficacy explained 49.7% of child abuse, it is the most important variable for preventing child abuse. Belief in corporal punishment was the second most important variable in preventing child abuse. These two variables explained 53.3% of variance in child abuse by parents.
This paper examines the effect of active labor market policy on the unemployment rates in 8 welfare states. This paper focuses on the following questions: what are the major predictors of the changes in unemployment rates?; and what is the effect of active labor market policy in reducing unemployment rates? Using the data from Comparative Welfare States Data Set by Stephens (1997), Key Indicators of the Labour Market by ILO (1999) and Social Expenditure Database by OECD (1999), this paper attempts to answer the above research questions. Fuller-Battese model, a data analysis method in pooled cross-sectional time-series analysis, is adopted to identify variables predicting changes in unemployment rates. This paper analyzes the predictors by using 3 analysis models about 2 types of unemployment (overall unemployment and long term unemployment). Results are as follows: (1) economic variable such as changes in GDP has a positive effect in reducing unemployment rates; (2) active labor market policy has a positive effect in reducing unemployment rates as well; (3) job brokering service among 3 major active labor market programs has a positive effect in reducing unemployment rates; and (4) there is an interaction effect between unemployment benefit level and active labor market policy in reducing unemployment rates. Through the empirical analysis, this paper provides valuable knowledge about effects of active labor market policy on unemployment in 8 welfare states and discusses implications for the active labor market policy in Korea.

Purpose: This study was to compare the influencing factors of clinical competence between associate and bachelor nursing students completing nursing courses. Method: The subjects were 429 students completing the nursing courses (172 bachelor course students, and 257 associate course students). The study design was cross sectional. Results: Bachelor students showed a significant higher score in clinical competence than associate students. There were significant influencing factors on clinical competence including critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, communication skill, theoretical education satisfaction, and practice education satisfaction. The strongest factor influencing clinical competence was critical thinking disposition. All the factors mentioned above explained 49% of clinical competence in associate courses, and 40.0% in bachelor courses excluding the factor of practice education satisfaction. The level of theoretical and practice education satisfaction of bachelor courses was significantly lower than associate. Conclusion: It is recommended that associate course nursing students should be encouraged in critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, and communication skill. Bachelor course nursing students should be encouraged in practical education including practical environments, instruction methods, and content for improving clinical competence.
Objectives: This study furthers the currents understanding of alcohol use disorders, stress, mental health status and suicide among Seoul citizens. This study is to identify differences according to socio-demographic variables and variables which affect stress, mental status and suicide for developing mental health programs. Methods: The study subjects using cluster-stratified sampling method were 1234 adults over 19 years old from 17 dong, S-Ku in Seoul City. A cross-sectional study with face-to-face interview was used to collect data. A questionnaire measuring socio-demographic variables, Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and psychosocial wellbeing index-short form (PWI-SF) was utilized. Results: Three findings in this study were discussed: (1) The prevalence of problem drinking and alcohol dependence and AUDIT score were significantly higher among male, younger age, and high level of education and income; (2) AUDIT score were related with stress, all 9 symptoms of SCL-R and suicide plan; (3) Problem drinkers were more likely to have 2.5 times of anxiety, 3.0 times of hostility, and 2.4 times psychoticism than non alcohol problem drinkers. Alcohol dependence drinkers were more likely to have 1.9 times of high risk group of stress, 4.1 times of obsessive-compulsive, 4.7 times of anxiety, 5.5 times of hostility, and 2.3 times psychoticism than non alcohol dependence drinkers. Conclusion: The findings suggest that the future intervention of Mental Health programs should be carefully designed and tailored by socio-demographic variables.
The recovery of copper from spent photovoltaic ribbon was conducted using thermal treatment method at the range of temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$ under inert atmosphere. The coating layer consisted of lead of 68.99 wt.% and tin of 31.21 wt.% was melted down at elevated temperatures and was collected on the bottom of crucible. The chemical composition of copper ribbon after thermal treatment was analyzed by ICP-MS (Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry) and the purity of copper was found to be obtained up to about 96 wt.% regardless of temperatures. The cross-sectional area of the specimen was also examined by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and EDX (energy dispersive X-ray microscopy).

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging method that utilizes the optical scattering and interference for visualizing the surface as well as cross-sectional structures of tissue. OCT has been used for diagnosing diseases in early stage in various medical fields, but an application in cosmetics is still at early stage. In this study, OCT was adopted to evaluate skin texture and wrinkle. Results showed similar patterns of evaluation with PRIMOS in the assessment using replica. In addition, OCT produced smaller errors at different angles compared to the PRIMOS in the assessment using 3-dimensional models of wrinkles. The resolution of the image was also high enough to differentiate the images of before and after the application of makeup products. Possible use of OCT in the evaluation of fine wrinkle assessment was studied in this research. Further development of methods is necessary to provide more evidences of the effectiveness.
This study was attempted to show basic data for search of nursing intervention about sleep improving in home and institute elderly peoples. Research design was cross-sectional survey method for comparison of sleep patterns and another variables between home and institute elderly peoples. Subjects were sampled by purpose as home and institute elderly peoples at age of 65 or older in Seoul or nearly. The survey questionnaire was used by modification of sleep questionnaire which Kim, O, Song & Bak(1997) developed. Data were collected between December, 1999 and April, 2000. And data were analyzed by SPSS PC+ for purpose of research. Results are as follows: 1. Home and institute elderly peoples, all were change of sleep patterns and sleep pattern was showed early sleeping down. But institute elderly peoples slept earlier than home elderly peoples. 2. As rest of morning, difficulty of falling asleep and disturbance of re-asleep, subjective thinking and feeling were showed more negative thing home elderly peoples than institute elderly peoples. As frequency of falling asleep within 5 min in 1 week, frequency of falling asleep over 30 min in 1 week and frequency of awakening in a day, objective frequency were showed more insomnia institute elderly peoples than home elderly peoples. Home elderly peoples didn't nap most and institute elderly peoples napped on very short time. 3. Regarding sleep-disturbing factors, physical factor was popularly joint-disturbance in all, home and institute elderly peoples. Environmental factor was popularly noise, particularly institute elderly peoples. Emotional factor wasn't all. 4. Practiced strategies for better sleep was popularly TV/Radio in home elderly peoples and were popularly regular sleep and religious action in institute elderly peoples. From the results of this study, home elderly peoples need nursing intervention of improving self-satisfaction on sleep and institute elderly peoples need nursing intervention of decreasing falling asleep-disturbing and decreasing frequency of awakening in sleep.
Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the predictive value of aspects of the Transtheoretical model (TTM) of behavior change as applied to smoking cessation in a rural population. Method: A convenience sample was recruited from a public health center in a community. A total of 484 participants were recruited, including 319 smokers, 116 ex-smokers and 49 non-smokers. A cross-sectional and descriptive design was used in this study. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency statistics, ANOVA and Logistic regression. Result: The major findings were 1) The participants were assessed at baseline for their current Stage of Change resulting in a distribution with $42.1\%$ in Precontemplation, $24.1\%$ in Contemplation, $9.7\%$ in Preparation, $6.2\%$ in Active, and $17.9\%$ in the Maintenance stage. 2) There were statistically significant differences of processes of change, decisional balance and situational temptation across the stages of change. 3) The main factors that affect smoking cessation were age, number of years smoking, age when began smoking, self-liberation and negative/affective situations, which combined explained $33.2\%$ of the smoking cessation. Conclusion: TTM variables measured prior to a smoking cessation program added little predictive value for cessation outcome beyond that explained by demographic and smoking history variables.
