The Effect of Transient Tachypnea Newborn Care Simulation Learning on Nursing Students' Critical Thinking Disposition, Clinical Performance ability, and Self- confidence

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of simulation-based practice education on critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence. Using the method of one-group pretest-posttest experimental research, this study selected total 70 nursing students (3rd year) as research subjects. The final research subjects were total 63 students excluding seven people with insufficient responses. From March to April 2023, total eight sessions of simulation practice education (4 hours per session) were conducted once a week. In the effects of the program, the critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence were measured. Using the SPSS Window Version 25.0, the critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence were analyzed through the mean, standard deviation, and paired t-test. In the results of this study, the critical thinking disposition (t=-10.61, p<.001), clinical performance ability (t=-3.06, p=.003), and self-confidence (t=-15.97, p<.001) were statistically significant. In the results of analyzing the correlations of clinical performance ability, and self-confidence after the simulation practice education, the learning satisfaction showed significantly positive correlation with immersion (r= .647, p<.001). The results of this study verified the improvement of critical thinking disposition, clinical performance ability, and self-confidence of nursing students after the simulation-based practice education. Thus, it would be necessary to develop the educational contents for various subjects, and also to expansively apply the simulation practice education.

비판적 사고 신장을 위한 협력 위키 시스템 (A Cooperative Wiki System for Improving the Critical Thinking)

  • 이 연구에서는 비판적 사고력과 협력 활동 신장을 위하여 개방형 커뮤니티 시스템을 구축하고 학생들에게 적용하여 그 효과에 대하여 조사하였다. 개방형 커뮤니티로 위키 시스템을 이용하였으며 비판적 사고와 협력 활동 향상의 비교를 위해 일반 게시판을 활용하여 비평적 글쓰기 수업 활동을 하였다. 수업 적용 결과 일반 게시판을 활용한 수업 보다 개방형 커뮤니티인 위키 시스템에서 비판적 사고 향상의 결과를 보였다. 또한 개인적으로 활동하는 수업보다 팀별로 협력 작업을 하는 수업에서 비판적 사고 활동이 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 향후 위키기반 개방형 시스템을 활용한 수업을 진행한다면 비판적 사고와 같은 고급 사고력의 능력이 높아질 것으로 기대된다.

교수학습방법에 따른 3개 간호대학생의 비판적 사고성향과 임상수행능력 (Critical Disposition and Clinical Competency in 3 Nursing Colleges with Different Education Methods)

  • Purpose: This study investigated critical thinking disposition and clinical competency of senior nursing students in 3 nursing colleges whose education methods were different; lecture based education, partially problem based learning (PBL) applied education or whole problem based learning applied education. Method: Participants were 399 diploma nursing students, and 92 undergraduate nursing students. The instruments used for this study were critical thinking disposition scales and clinical competency scales. Results: There was no statistical difference on critical thinking disposition except healthy skepticism between the 3 colleges. Clinical competency of the lecture based college was the highest. A significant positive correlation between critical thinking disposition and clinical competency were found in students whose scores of critical thinking disposition were greater than the median. Conclusion: This finding indicates that there is a need for further research on diverse nursing students who are studying by a various methods, prior to acceptance of a paradigm shift in nursing education from conventional lecture based methods to PBL applied methods.

논리·비판적 사고 신장을 위한 로봇 프로그래밍의 수학교육 적용 방안 (A study on the application of robotic programming to promote logical and critical thinking in mathematics education)

  • Logic lays the foundation of Mathematics and the development of Mathematics is dependent on critical thinking. So it is important that school mathematics helps students develop their logical and critical thinking ability for both mathematics learning and problem solving in general. MINDSTORMS, a LEGO based programming activity kit, is an effective teaching and learning tool that can be used to enhance logical and critical thinking in students. This study focused on measuring the growth of students' ability to think logically and critically when they used MINDSTORMS activities to learn programming. In addition, we investigated how the students' logical and critical thinking changed from the MINDSTORMS learning experience. The study confirmed that the programming activities using MINDSTORMS help to enhance logical and critical thinking in students. The students attitude about logical and critical thinking became more positive and the activities helped to engage students to think logically and critically. This type of programming activities should be valuable in mathematics education and it should be included in a general mathematics curriculum.

  • 이 논문은 지리의 핵심개념 중의 하나인 공간에 대한 담론을 고찰한 후, 공간에 대한 비판적 읽기를 위한 교육으로서 지리교육을 주장한다. 최근 지리학과 비판교육학에서는 공간을 공간 과학의 관점에서 물리적이고 물질적인 것으로 정의하던 차원에서 벗어나, 공간의 사회성과 역사성을 강조하면서 공간은 사회적으로 구성된 것임을 강조한다. 따라서 공간은 더 이상 사회적 관계가 단순히 기록되는 단순한 그릇이 아니라, 다양한 의미들이 서로 경합하고 갈등하면서 사회적 관계가 생산되고 재생산되는 것으로 인식된다. 이제 지리교육은 공간이 개념화되는 상이한 방식을 검토하고, 다중적이고 경쟁적인 공간의 본질을 독해하는데 초점을 둔 공간에 대한 비판지리교육을 발전시켜야 하는 도전에 직면하게 된다.

비대면 환경에서의 비판적 사고와 토론교육 - 공대 신입생 대상 온라인 수업 사례를 중심으로 (Critical Thinking and Debate Education under Non-Face-to-Face Situation - Through Online classes for Freshmen at the Engineering College)

  • This research is a case study about "Critical Thinking and Debate Education" class which was done for freshmen at the engineering college of "S" Women's University. Real time remote classes through LMS and ZOOM were the most effective tools under on-line circumstances, considering the fact that video lectures only cannot cultivate students' capabilities of critical thinking and communication. Throughout the analysis on students' self-reflection journals and lecture evaluations, this paper examined considerable future points and the pros and cons of "Critical Thinking and Debate Education" under online presentation and discussion situation. As research outputs, students told they could feel less nervousness and anxiety when they exercise and have a presentation because they could choose familiar space for them. In addition, students also told that they feel comfortable about both self-feedback and peer evaluation, repeatedly seeing the recorded video clip. However, on the contrary, sometimes students felt uncomfortable due to unstable internet connection through the online classes, and they also were regretful about the missing chances of interaction between a teacher and students and of intimate exchanges among students. They also told they had felt a kind of limit of enhancing their presentation skills just in front of the monitor. Considering these outcomes, this research paper points out that online education needs to be proceeded by strengthening multi layered feedback to students with the build-up of a non-face-to-face stable educational infrastructure, application of online instructional strategy, and utilization of YouTube platform and video contents. Through this research paper, I hope the new system of encompassing on/off line "Critical Thinking and Debate Education" and effective teaching and learning method can be developed soon by strengthening the strength of online education.

간호학생의 비판적 사고능력에 관한 연구 (A Study of Critical Thinking Ability of Associate and Baccalaurate Degree Nursing Students)

  • This descriptive study was done to investigate the critical thinking ability of senior nursing students in two types of nursing education programs : associate and baccalaureate programs. Data were conveniently collected from 159 associate degree nursing (ADN)students and 158 baccalaureate degree nursing(BSN)students. All schools were the Ministry of Education accredited and located in Seoul City and Kyung gi Province. These data were collected by self reporting questionaire given over two months from March to May, 1995. The subjects completed the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA) and a demographic questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test with the SAS program. The results of this study are as follows 1. The mean of critical thinking ability of the ADN students was 42.69. 2. The mean of critical thinking ability of the BSN students was 47.68. 3. There was significant difference in the WGCTA scores between the ADN and the BSN students (t=7.38 p<0.001) 4. This study suggests that critical thinking ability may increase with higher levels of nursing education. Possible explanations for these findings are discussed.

간호학 학사과정 내 중환자 간호학 교육의 운영 현황과 발전 방향 (Critical Care Nursing Courses in Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programs : Present and Future Directions)

  • Purpose : This study examined the status of critical care nursing education in bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) to suggest future directions. Methods : The target of the survey was 185 BSN programs that were certified by the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education as of October 31, 2016. We structurally reviewed the curriculums and the course syllabi. Results : Forty-eight courses of 42 BSN programs were analyzed. Only five programs offered both theoretical and practical courses in critical care nursing; 22 offered theoretical courses and 26 offered practical courses. Most courses were offered as electives with 1 or 2 credits, and were taught by faculty who were experts in adult health nursing. Conclusion : The results show that there is a quantitative shortage of critical care nursing education in the curriculum of BSN programs in Korea. The lack of knowledge and skills on critical care can lead to a burden of new intensive care unit nurses and is a threat to patients' health. It is necessary to develop a practical and integrative curriculum for critical care nursing education.

간호대학 4학년 학생의 중환자간호역량에 미치는 영향 요인 (Factors Influencing Competence in the Intensive and Critical Care Nursing of Senior Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the factors influencing the competence in intensive and critical care nursing of senior nursing students. Methods: A descriptive survey was used to examine the factors that influence competence in intensive and critical care nursing. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires; 237 senior nursing students were asked about general characteristics, critical thinking, communication competence, self-esteem, self-resilience, and self-leadership. Results: Multiple regression analysis indicated that self-leadership, self-esteem, and confidence in intensive care unit practice predicted the competence in intensive and critical care nursing (37.8% of explanatory power). Critical thinking, communication competence, and self-resilience were not shown to be significant predictors of, but were positively correlated with, the competence in intensive and critical care nursing. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is suggested that self-leadership, self-esteem, and confidence in intensive care unit practice should be considered in nursing education in order to improve nursing students' level of competence in intensive and critical care nursing.

일 대학 간호대학생이 지각한 중환자 간호 역량 조사 (Senior Nursing Students' Perceived Competence of Intensive and Critical Care Nursing)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of intensive and critical care nursing competence in senior nursing students. Methods: The research method for this study comprised a descriptive survey study with a convenience sample of 113 senior nursing students from one university. The instrument entitled ICCN-CS-1, which measures intensive and critical care nursing competence, was translated by the authors following WHO guidelines for translation process. The data were collected using ICCN-CS-1. Results: The mean score of intensive and critical care nursing was above the intermediate level. The competence indices of knowledge, skill and attitude/value were also above the intermediate level, which suggests that their competence is good. For two intensive and critical care nursing domains, the nursing students' mean score of clinical competence is higher than that of professional competence. The competence of intensive and critical care is also influenced by nursing students' satisfaction in their major and clinical practice as well as their confidence in clinical practice. Conclusion: The senior nursing students' competence of intensive and critical care nursing is above the intermediate level. A consideration of the influencing factors of satisfaction of nursing major/ICU practice and confidence of ICU practice is needed in intensive and critical care nursing education.
