  • This paper presents a technique, which identifies both process noise covariance and sensor noise covariance by using innovation correlation test. A correlation test, which checks whether the square root Kalman filter is workingly optimal or not, is given. The system is stochastic autoregressive moving-average model with auxiliary white noise Input. The linear quadratic Gaussian control is used for minimizing stochastic cost function. This paper indentifies Q, R, and estimates parametric matrics $A(q^{-1}),B(q^{-1}),C(q^{-1})$ by means of extended recursive least squares and model reference control. And The proposed technique has been validated in simulation results on the fourth order system.

  • Schwarz's Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is one of the most popular criteria for model selection, that was derived under the assumption of independent and identical distribution. For correlated data in longitudinal studies, Jones (Statistics in Medicine, 30, 3050-3056, 2011) modified the BIC to select the best linear mixed effects model based on the effective sample size where the number of parameters in covariance structure was not considered. In this paper, we propose an extended Jones' modified BIC by considering covariance parameters. We conducted simulation studies under a variety of parameter configurations for linear mixed effects models. Our simulation study indicates that our proposed BIC performs better in model selection than Schwarz's BIC and Jones' modified BIC do in most scenarios. We also illustrate an example of smoking data using a longitudinal cohort of cancer patients.

  • We propose an on-line machine learning approach for object recognition, where new images are continuously added and the recognition decision is made without delay. Random forest (RF) classifier has been extensively used as a generative model for classification and regression applications. We extend this technique for the task of building incremental component-based detector. First we employ object descriptor model based on bag of covariance matrices, to represent an object region then run our on-line RF learner to select object descriptors and to learn an object classifier. Experiments of the object recognition are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Results demonstrate that the propose model yields in object recognition performance comparable to the benchmark standard RF, AdaBoost, and SVM classifiers.

  • Spatiotemporal statistical models are used for analyzing space-time data in many fields, such as environmental sciences, meteorology, geology, epidemiology, forestry, hydrology, fishery, and so on. It is well known that classical spatiotemporal process modeling requires the estimation of space-time variogram or covariance functions. In practice, the estimation of such variogram or covariance functions are computationally difficult and highly sensitive to data structures. We investigate a Bayesian hierarchical model which allows the specification of a more realistic series of conditional distributions instead of computationally difficult and less realistic joint covariance functions. The spatiotemporal model investigated in this study allows both spatial component and autoregressive temporal component. These two features overcome the inability of pure time series models to adequately predict changes in trends in individual sites.

  • In longitudinal data analysis, the serial correlation of repeated outcomes must be taken into account using covariance matrix. Modeling of the covariance matrix is important to estimate the effect of covariates properly. However, It is challenging because there are many parameters in the matrix and the estimated covariance matrix should be positive definite. To overcome the restrictions, several Cholesky decomposition approaches for the covariance matrix were proposed: modified autoregressive (AR), moving average (MA), ARMA Cholesky decompositions. In this paper we review them and compare the performance of the approaches using simulation studies.

  • The Hurdle model can to analyze zero-inflated count data. This model is a mixed model of the logit model for a binary component and a truncated Poisson model of a truncated count component. We propose a new hurdle model with a general heterogeneous random effects covariance matrix to analyze longitudinal zero-inflated count data using modified Cholesky decomposition. This decomposition factors the random effects covariance matrix into generalized autoregressive parameters and innovation variance. The parameters are modeled using (generalized) linear models and estimated with a Bayesian method. We use these methods to carefully analyze a real dataset.

  • Repeated outcomes from the same subjects are referred to as longitudinal data. Analysis of the data requires different methods unlike cross-sectional data analysis. It is important to model the covariance matrix because the correlation between the repeated outcomes must be considered when estimating the effects of covariates on the mean response. However, the modeling of the covariance matrix is tricky because there are many parameters to be estimated, and the estimated covariance matrix should be positive definite. In this paper, we consider analysis of multivariate longitudinal data via two modeling methodologies for the covariance matrix for multivariate longitudinal data. Both methods describe serial correlations of multivariate longitudinal outcomes using a modified Cholesky decomposition. However, the two methods consider different decompositions to explain the correlation between simultaneous responses. The first method uses enhanced linear covariance models so that the covariance matrix satisfies a positive definiteness condition; in addition, and principal component analysis and maximization-minimization algorithm (MM algorithm) were used to estimate model parameters. The second method considers variance-correlation decomposition and hypersphere decomposition to model covariance matrix. Simulations are used to compare the performance of the two methodologies.

  • For the growth curve model with arbitrary covariance structure, known as unstructured covariance matrix, the problems of detecting outliers are discussed in this paper. In order to detect outliers in the growth curve model, the likelihood ratio testing statistics in mean shift model is established and its distribution is derived. After we detected outliers in growth curve model, we test homo and/or hetero-geneous covariance matrices using PSR Quasi-Bayes Criterion. For illustration, one numerical example is discussed, which compares between before and after outlier deleting.

  • In this paper, we propose a fuzzy Kalman filtering to deal with a estimation error covariance. The T-S fuzzy model structure is further rearranged to give a set of linear model using standard Kalman filter theory. And then, to minimize the estimation error covariance, which is inferred using the fuzzy system. It can be used to find the exact Kalman gain. We utilize the genetic algorithm for optimizing fuzzy system. The proposed state estimator is demonstrated on a truck-trailer.

  • Feature vectors of speech are generally extracted from whole frequency domain. The inherent character of a speaker is located in the low band or high band frequency. However, if the speech is corrupted by narrowband noise with concentrated energy, speaker verification performance is reduced as the individual characteristic is removed. In this paper, we propose a PCA Covariance Model based on the multiband to extract the robust feature vectors against the narrowband noise. First, we divide the overall frequency band into several subbands. Second, the correlation of feature vectors extracted independently from each subband is removed by PCA. The distance obtained from each subband has different distribution. To normalize against the different distribution, we moved the value into the normalized distribution through the mapping function. Finally, the represented value applying the weighting function is used for speaker verification. In the experiments, the proposed method shows better performance of the speaker verification and reduces the computation.
