The Study on Degree of Coupling in Coupled Shear Wall System (병렬 전단벽의 커플링 정도에 관한 연구)

  • Since a ductile coupled shear wall system is the primary seismic load resisting systems of many structures, a coupling beams of these system must exhibit excellent ductility and energy absorption capacity. In this paper, the seismic response of coupled shear wall system is discussed. It includes that the evaluation of the degree of coupling between the shear walls and the coupling beams. It is demonstrated through a review of experimental investigations of coupling beam behavior that often the coupling beam ductility demand exceeds the expected available ductility. As a result, it is possible that coupled shear wall system will not behave as desired in the course of a significant seismic event. Limits to the allowable degree of coupling are proposed as a remedy to this apparent deficiency.

Effect of Kinetic Parameters on Simultaneous Ramp Reactivity Insertion Plus Beam Tube Flooding Accident in a Typical Low Enriched U3Si2-Al Fuel-Based Material Testing Reactor-Type Research Reactor

  • This work looks at the effect of changes in kinetic parameters on simultaneous reactivity insertions and beam tube flooding in a typical material testing reactor-type research reactor with low enriched high density ($U_3Si_2-Al$) fuel. Using a modified PARET code, various ramp reactivity insertions (from $0.1/0.5 s to $1.3/0.5 s) plus beam tube flooding ($0.5/0.25 s) accidents under uncontrolled conditions were analyzed to find their effects on peak power, net reactivity, and temperature. Then, the effects of changes in kinetic parameters including the Doppler coefficient, prompt neutron lifetime, and delayed neutron fractions on simultaneous reactivity insertion and beam tube flooding accidents were analyzed. Results show that the power peak values are significantly sensitive to the Doppler coefficient of the system in coupled accidents. The material testing reactor-type system under such a coupled accident is not very sensitive to changes in the prompt neutron life time; the core under such a coupled transient is not very sensitive to changes in the effective delayed neutron fraction.

  • Steel shear wall system has been used in recent years in tall buildings due to its appropriate behavior advantages such as stiffness, high strength, economic feasibility and high energy absorption capability. Coupled steel plate shear walls consist of two steel shear walls that are connected to each other by steel link beam at each floor level. In this article the frames of 3, 10, and 15 of (C-SPSW) floor with rigid connection were considered in three different lengths of 1.25, 2.5 and 3.75 meters and link beams with plastic section modulus of 100% to the panel beam at each floor level and analyzed using three pairs of accelerograms based on nonlinear dynamic analysis through ABAQUS software and then the performance of walls and link beams at base shear, drift, the period of structure, degree of coupling (DC) and dissipated energy evaluated. The results show that the (C-SPSW) system base shear increases with a decrease in the link beam length, and the drift, main period and dissipated energy of structure decreases. Also the link beam length has different effects on parameters of coupling degrees.

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristics of an intelligent cantilever beam in contact with a fluid using a PZT actuator and PVDF film. The dynamic behaviors of a flexible beam-water interaction system are examined. The effect of the liquid level on free vibration of the composite beam in a partially liquid-filled circular cylinder is investigated. The coupled system is subject to an undisturbed boundary condition in the fluid domain. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect.   • In the past decade, various experimental programmes were undertaken to address the lack of information on the interaction between steel coupling beams and reinforced concrete shear wall in a hybrid coupled shear wall system. In this paper, the seismic performance of steel coupling beam-wall connections in a hybrid coupled shear wall system is examined through results of an experimental research programme where three 2/3-scale specimens were tested under cyclic loading. The test variables included the reinforcement details that confer a ductile behaviour on the steel coupling beam-wall connection, i.e., the face bearing plates and the horizontal ties in the panel region of steel coupling beam-wall connections. Panel shear strength reflects enhancement achieved through mobilization of the reinforced concrete panel using face bearing plates and/or horizontal ties in the panel region of steel coupling beam-wall connections.

Coupled hydroelastic vibrations of a liquid on flexible space structures under zero-gravity - Part I. Mechanical model

  • The coupled free vibration of flexible structures and on-board liquid in zero gravity space was analyzed, considering the spacecraft main body as a rigid mass, the flexible appendages as two elastic beams, and the on-board liquid as a "spring-mass" system. Using the Lagrangians of a rigid mass (spacecraft main body), "spring-mass" (liquid), and two beams (flexible appendages), as well as assuming symmetric motion of the system, we obtained the frequency equations of the coupled system by applying Rayleigh-Ritz method. Solving these frequency equations, which are governed by three system parameters, as an eigenvalue problem, we obtained the coupled natural frequencies and vibration modes. We define the parameter for evaluating the magnitudes of coupled motions of the added mass (liquid) and beam (appendages). It was found that when varying one system parameter, the frequency curves veer, vibration modes exchange, and the significant coupling occurs not in the region closest to the two frequency curves but in the two regions separate from that region.

  • Corrugation of railway track can be caused by the various dynamic behaviors of traveling wheels and track. In this paper, the coupled vibrations of traveling wheel and railway track are analyzed as the cause of corrugations. To analyze the coupled vibration, the track supported by the sleepers and the traveling wheels are identified to the elastically supported infinite beam and the spring-mass system which runs at constant speed. The Hertzian contact spring is considered between the infinite beam and spring-mass system are calculated. The cause and development of rail corrugation are discussed in the view point of contact force fluctuation affected by the elastic supports and the corrugated surface profile on the track. By the obtained results, the possibilities of resonance are checked between the excitation by the corrugated surface profile and the natural frequency of contact spring-mass system. It may be thought to a development of railway corrugation.

In the vibration analysis of a wetted beam. the decoupled analyses between beam and fluid have been conventionally employed by considering first the composite beam vibration in the all and secondly Performing the correction taking account for surrounding fluid effects. That is, this investigation was to look at how natural frequencies, mode shapes. and damping are affected by liquid level variations. The signals from the sensor according to the applied input voltage are digitalized and filtered in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the composite beam in contact with fluid. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect. In case of the free-free boundary condition, the natural frequency gently decreased at fluid water level between 20% and 80% in the first tending mode and we found out the bends of stair shape for added mass effect of the fluid.

  • In this paper, using by the orthogonalities of modes for trainwheel (as Mindlin's annular plate and rail (as Timoshenko beam), the frequency equation of the coupled system are induced. It is convinced that the natural frequencies of coupled system are distributed to be about quadratic order function examined through the experimental and numerical analysis. The natural frequencies of the system coupled by both creep force and creep moment are composed of the natural frequencies of the system coupled by creep force and the natural frequencies of the system coupled by creep moment . And it is shown that the coupled natural frequencies up to 3rd do not make much difference from the values of the system coupled by individual creep force of creep moment. But the coupled natural frequencies higher than the 3rd are quite different from those of individual case.

  • The authors apply the transfer influence coefficient method to the 3-dimensional vibration analysis of beam with multi-joints and formulate a general algorithm to analysis the longitudinal, flexural and torsional coupled free vibration. In this paper, the structure, which is mainly founded in the robot arms, cranes and so on, has some crooked parts, subsystems and joints but has no closed loop in this system. It is modeled as the beam of a distributed mass system with massless translational, rotational and torsional springs in each node, and joint elements of release or roll at which node the displacement vector is discontinuous. The superiorty of the present method to the transfer matrix method in the computation accuracy was confirmed by the numerical computation results. Moreover, we confirmed that boundary and intermediate conditions could ve controlled by varying the values o the spring constants.
